DSAE 2303 Cardiovascular Concepts (48 contact hours) o Anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. o Focuses on cardiac and vascular structural anatomy and relationships, electrical innervation, embryology, and hemodynamics of the heart and vascular system. DSAE 1340 Diagnostic Electrocardiography (80 contact hours) o Cardiac testing including the techniques and interpretation of patient physical assessment. o Covers electrocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitoring, vital signs, and cardiovascular pharmacology. DSAE 1315 Principles of Adult Echocardiography (64 contact hours) o A partnership course with the Diagnostic Medical Sonography department. o Topics include anatomical correlation of 2-D, M-Mode, and Doppler sonographic imaging. HPRS 1160 Clinical – Health Sciences, General (48 hours) o Clinical rotations in a variety of settings, including the emergency rooms and cardiology offices. EKG Technicians can work at hospitals, cardiac care facilities, clinics, or any other healthcare facility that utilizes EKGs on their patients/clients. . Course Information: EKG courses will be held at both the Collin College Technical Campus and the Wylie Campus. The EKG program will be taught over 2 semesters (Fall and Spring). Students will need to complete all four program courses to be eligible for the EKG Technician Certification Exam. NOTE: Students who have previously earned their CNA certification and complete EKG should consider taking Phlebotomy. The combination of these three programs makes students eligible to take the Patient Care Technician (PCT) Certification which can provide more job opportunities and a higher salary.
