PROTOCOL

TRAVEL RECEPTIONIt is suggested that, upon the knowledge of an impending visit by a Royal Officer(s) to a Subordinate Court, a reception to meet the Royal Officer(s) by the Director and/or the Impresario or other designated Jester should be arranged upon his arrival. Appropriate transportation should be made available to transport him (them) from an arrival terminal to his (their) event location.

HOUSING QUARTERSThe Subordinate Court Director should make certain the Royal Sir’s(s’) rooms are adequate. The Director should immediately inform the Royal Sir(s), preferably in writing, what program of events are planned and permit the Royal Sir(s) to express his (their) wishes in participation.

RECEPTIONWhen a reception is to be held, i.e. cocktail, etc., the Royal Officer(s) should be informed of the time he (they) is (are) to be called for at his (their) quarters and, at the appointed time, escorted to the meeting place by the Director of the Subordinate Court or other designated Jester.

BOOK OF THE PLAY SEATINGWhen the Book of the Play is to be presented, reserve seats should be made available in the first row and the Royal Officers should be escorted into the meeting place by the order of their office with the topper or hat, it is permissible to wear it and only the official Royal Order of Jesters jewel is to be worn.

SEATING AT BANQUETSThe Royal Director or the ranking Royal Officer should be escorted to the banquet by the Director of the Subordinate Court and be seated on the right of the Director. Other Royal Officers should be seated according to their official positions, alternating from stage left and right, including Past Royal Directors according to their seniority. Place cards should be provided to expedite seating. The dignitaries sitting at the head table should line up in the order their place cards and approach the head table in that order.

DRESSThe dress of a Jester is a tux and the official jewel of the Royal Order of Jesters. Black, white or other commonly acceptable tux dinner jacket is acceptable. If a Court has an official beret, topper or hat, it is permissible to wear it at the Book of the Play, the reception and the banquet.

INTRODUCTIONSMasonic and Shrine dignitaries should be introduced in the order of generally accepted protocol. The Past Royal Directors, according to their year as Royal Director, with the most recent year introduced last and the Officers of the Royal Order of Jesters in reverse order according to their position in line. When Royal Officers are called upon to speak, this same reverse order shall be observed with the Royal Director the final speaker.

PLACEMENT OF FLAGSAll four flags representing the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Panama Canal should be displayed. The flag of the country in which the flags are being displayed should be on the speaker’s extreme right.

SALUTING THE FLAGA Jester whose head is covered will execute a right hand salute while reciting the pledge of allegiance

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCEThe Shrine pledge of allegiance should be presented.“I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the country for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

PRAYERDuring the offering of a prayer, the head cover should be removed and held in the right hand over the heart. The prayer shall be nondenominational in content.

FINALEIf convenient, the Royal Officer(s) should be escorted to the airport an hour in advance of the departure time from your city.
