Commission for Persons with Disabilities Medford Human Rights Commission March 26, 2014 Present : Charlotte Swartz, Henry Milorin, Chief Sacco, Marie Cassidy, Molly Flueckiger – Arlington Disability Commission, Bill Woods, and Carolyn Rosen Not present : Lois Bronnenkant, Steve Honeycutt, Dale Bryan, David Harris, and Natalie Breen Introductions Public Participation Molly discussed the possibility of Commissions getting together and sharing information and training. Henry offered some options. Bill responded to Molly and spoke of small store pricing which is difficult to read. March 26, 2014

Present: Charlotte Swartz, Henry Milorin, Chief Sacco, Marie Cassidy, Molly Flueckiger – Arlington Disability Commission, Bill Woods, and Carolyn Rosen

Not present: Lois Bronnenkant, Steve Honeycutt, Dale Bryan, David Harris, and Natalie Breen

Introductions

Public Participation

Molly discussed the possibility of Commissions getting together and sharing information and training. Henry offered some options.

Bill responded to Molly and spoke of small store pricing which is difficult to read.

Diane will meet at the High School next Thursday to review where we are. MHS has selfies and we are also in need of adult selfies. Diane drafted a brochure.

Disability Awareness Awards

Diane sent information seeking nominations to the Library, to the Transcript and wicked local for the awards that are due May 21st. It is also on the city website. We will hold the ceremony in June.

Variance Updates

Diane noted that the Royall House is trying to make the bathroom as accessible as possible. They were before the AAB as an incoming case on Monday and were granted a variance for the bathroom size and

the distance between the center line of the toilet and the wall, but were denied for the request to not have grab bars.

Correspondence & Announcements

Diane has been coordinating outreach events for Persons with Disabilities and Limited English speakers for Emergency Preparedness training on Smart 911. We will hold two sessions; April 9 th at 4PM and April 23rd at 6PM, both in the Council Chambers.

Diane is coordinating a Fair Housing Training focusing on family issues for Friday, April 11 th from 9:30AM – 11:30AM in the Council Chambers.

Henry mentioned the movie Toussaint Louvertoure on March 28th at the Hyatt.

He also noted Embracing the Arts at the Hyatt April 25th-27th. He will forward more details to Diane
