What is the difference between storm-related debris and regular household trash?

Storm debris includes any trees, tree limbs and shrubs that went down in the hurricane. Regular household trash is what you would throw away in a typical week.

When will the storm debris be collected from my curb and what should I do to prepare?

There is no schedule for when storm debris will be collected from your neighborhood, but be assured that it will. The cleanup effort will take weeks.

When will my regular household collections resume?

Regular collections of garbage, recycling and your normal weekly yard waste resume as soon as it is safe for collection crews to do so.

If you are on a State Hwy. System, and FDOT has made their 1st pass, and you still have debris in the right of way, please contact one of these County departments:

Begin clean-up as quick as possible after the

storm.

Clean-Up Dates: After a hurricane listen to local media for updates. County will post press releases and post clean-up dates on the County’s website at www.hardeecounty.net and in the local newspaper.

Ensure that all material is at the curb for pick up at the time of the announced date/time. The County will make 2-3 passes depending on amount of debris.

Debris MUST be placed at the right of way for collection—collection crews will NOT enter pri-vate property to remove debris.

Make sure that each pile is clear of any electrical lines, water meters, mailboxes and fire hydrants.

Keep hazardous waste separate, and contact Solid Waste at 863-773-5089 for disposal options.

Residents on a road (state highway sys-tem) that is maintained by the Florida De-partment of Transportation, please take note:

FDOT is responsible for the removal of the storm-related debris that fell on the state highway system.

After the initial push of debris to the side of the roadway, which allows emergency workers to pass safely, FDOT will conduct one pass to collect debris that fell within the right of way of the state highway sys-tem. Not debris hauled to the right of way.

FDOT will NOT remove other debris, whether storm related or not, that is placed on the state highway system. After FDOT pass, contact Hardee Co. Solid Waste if you still have debris in right of way.
