Facilitate and enhance capacity to manage risk

Key activities• Support district officials and stakeholders with developing,

reviewing and implementing Local Disaster Risk Management Plans (LDRMPs)

• Facilitate and empower communities to establish and implement child-focused and participatory Community Based Disaster Risk Management Plans and advocate to ensure they are incorporated into local government plans

Key activities• Assess and strengthen structural safety of school

facilities• Build DRM capacity among school management

committees, teachers and students• Establish school disaster risk reduction and management

plans• Educate children on disaster risk and resilience through

school curriculum and informal curriculum

Mobilise youth to manage disasters

Support School Management Committees with implementation of the school safety framework

Key activities• Build capacity of WVIN and partner NGOs to facilitate the

Disaster Risk Management (DRM) process• Identify active youth in communities and prepare them to

map hazards in their community and provide leadership during disaster management planning and response

• Build capacity of community youth on development and implementation of Local Disaster Risk Management Plan

Advocacy through media and partnership

Key activities• Raise awareness on the importance of DRM measures

and functioning mechanism in-country• Promote network and cooperation between WVIN and

Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, INGOs, UN and other actors at the national level
