Would you consider yourself to be wise? As we’ve walked through the book of Proverbs we have seen that both Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly are calling out for followers and the wise incline their ears, heart and feet to pursuing lady wisdom while the fool runs after lady folly like an ox to the slaughter. So what lady are you following, what path are you on, what will be the end of your journey? The book of Proverbs begins where we will end, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…,” Proverbs 1:7.

ARE YOU CHIEFLY PURSUING GOD?“The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever”

Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, they would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, … But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.” Proverbs 1:29–33

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you. Proverbs 9:10–11

The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

Wisdom is found solely in God and to become wise you must make your life’s ambition and goal to know, love and obey God above all else.

For the past several years you’ve heard me teach and reiterate what I call the 3 Keys to Life:

1) My goal in life is to please God-2 Corinthians 5:92) I Please God by being like Jesus-1 Cor. 11:13) God knows I’m not perfect but he expects me to be growing-Phil. 1:6

These keys are rooted in God’s Word and they square with the Proverbs description of Wisdom. Wisdom is found in the pursuit of God and His ways.

I need to ask you this morning, what is your chief pursuit in life?What would your wife and children say is your chief pursuit?

Wisdom, the skill of right living, is best seen in one’s life, not in one’s words.

ARE YOU CURRENTLY DOING WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE RIGHT?

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”James 1:22

He who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him. In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride, But the lips of the wise will preserve them. Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; But much increase comes by the strength of an ox. Proverbs 14:2–4
