Circulating Files are collections of verbatim quotes of what Edgar Cayce said during his readings on a

given subject or, in some cases everything. We have medical circulating files which focus on the over

9,000 health-related readings with subjects from Acidity-Alkalinity to Weight Loss. We also have non-

medical circulating files on a broad range of topics, for example Egypt: Sphinx, Pyramids, and Hall of

Records, Fear and Its Far-Reaching Effects, Advice to Parents, Serving in Accord with Ideals, and

Business Advice.

Each circulating file is simply a collection of reading quotes or full readings given for different individuals

on a similar subject or disease. The A.R.E. cannot and does not suggest treatments for physical ailments nor

make claims about the effectiveness of the therapies. We encourage anyone working with the health

readings to do so under a doctor's care and advice.

The circulating files support the research aspect of the Cayce work. We appreciate any feedback informing

us of progress made in improving one’s life or achieving good health by applying suggestions given in the

readings. Please send any feedback (testimonies, experiences, results, etc.) to:

Introduction to the Cayce Readings on

Health and Healing

No matter what illness or ailment concerns us, certain basic principles about

health and healing are relevant. These are the premises upon which all of the Cayce

health information rests. For those who would like to make a more careful study of these

basic principles, the recommended Circulating File is entitled “Principles of Healing.”

Here, in essence, are the ideas found in that file. They may prove to be very useful to

your more in-depth study of the specific ailment that requires healing for you.

The first fundamental idea about healing requires that we maintain a creative

balance between two principles:

1. All healing comes from the infinite - that is, from attunement and harmony with

our spiritual source. The infinite is just as accessible and available in the visible, physical

world as it is in the invisible realm.

2. At the same time, each person must take responsibility for his or her own

healing process. No one can simply sit back and wait passively for healing to occur.

This second principle - the need for self-responsibility - can take many forms.

For example, healing requires attunement, and no one knows better than ourselves

exactly what has gotten us out of attunement in the past. Often, if we'll look closely at

our lives, we can see (without needing a gifted medical clairvoyant such as Edgar Cayce)

what's causing our illness.

To illustrate self-responsibility further, the human body has a marvelous, innate

drive to heal itself, but we've got to do our part to help. A broken bone will naturally try

to mend; however, the fracture needs to be set properly for the healing to be complete and

effective.

Another important principle relates to energy medicine, a new field for which

Edgar Cayce was a pioneer. His readings consistently speak of the roles played by

vibrations or vibratory forces - right down to the level of individual atoms. According to

Cayce, there is a type of consciousness that exists in each atom. Although most of the

passages about the atomic physics of healing seem rather esoteric, it might be easier to

follow the analogy of the attunement of a stringed musical instrument. A violin or piano

that is out of tune makes sour, discordant music - symbolic of disease or illness. Just as a

skilled musician can bring the instrument back into attunement, we experience healing

when our vibrations - right down to the atomic level - are adjusted in a correct manner.

In essence, all healing is the changing of vibrations from within.

Balance among body, mind, and spirit is another key to Cayce's philosophy of

healing. For healing to be complete and lasting, we must recognize and meet the needs of

each of these three levels. Virtually no illness or disease can be treated successfully at

only one of these three levels.

What's more, Cayce affirms that the human body will naturally stay healthy - and

even rejuvenate itself - if a kind of internal balance can be maintained. “Dis-ease” starts

when one part of the body draws energy from another part. One portion of an organism

may become overcharged with the creative life force, while another portion becomes

Page 6: DISKS (Slipped) - Edgar Cayce · PDF fileFor those who would like to make a more careful study of these ... A violin or piano that is out of tune makes ... “Mind is the builder,”

undernourished. The result is a gradual disintegration of the body and the onset of

illness.

The opposite of this sort of disintegration is rejuvenation. The readings assert that

we are continuously rebuilding our bodies. Within any seven-year period, each cell is

replaced. If we'll allow it, our bodies will transform any problem and resuscitate any

condition. But our ingrained habits usually block this healing potential - the habits of

action and, even more potent, the habits of mind.

What role do drugs and medicine play in the healing process? Cayce's philosophy

clearly sees a place for them, but warns of misunderstanding how they work and of

expecting more of them than is possible. Any healing method attempts to create an

experience of oneness, in hopes of then stimulating a similar response in the body. For

some people in some situations, a drug may be the best way to accomplish this - just as in

other cases, surgery may be the best way to stimulate healing. Medicines can be a

practical application of the one life force. Occasionally they must be very potent in their

reactions in order to get the patient through an acute illness. But Cayce from time to time

encouraged people to consider the herbal formulas he recommended to be tonics and

stimulants, rather than medicines.

The dangerous side of medicines is their potential to diminish the body's own

healing work. This is what Cayce alluded to when he warned about “palliatives” that

deceive the soul with half truths and temporary relief. It's also what he meant when he

warned that we shouldn't come to rely on any condition outside of ourselves that could be

assimilated by the body inwardly. All of this is to say, take the medications prescribed by

the physician you trust. But keep in mind this thought: what those chemicals can do is

temporarily - and somewhat artificially - give your body an experience of greater

oneness. Healing that really takes hold and lasts must come from changing one's inner

consciousness and vibration. That happens most effectively from consistent and

persistent human effort (i.e., engaging one's desires, purposes, and will) - something that

pills all too easily allow us to skip.

Cayce's healing philosophy includes other insights that can help us avoid

misunderstanding. For example, one principle states that the best treatment procedures

sometimes cause a temporary worsening of conditions. If we didn't recognize this

possibility, we might give up just before the benefits begin to appear. A closely related

principle states that when a body is re-establishing its attunement, it tends to be more

sensitive. Again, if we misunderstand that heightened sensitivity, we might not see the

good that is slowly being effected.

The mind is a focus of other healing principles. The unconscious mind plays a

role in many illnesses and diseases. One example of this is the karmic factor in health

problems. Memories from previous incarnations, stored in the soul mind, can trigger

problems in the body. Of course, we shouldn't go so far as to suppose that every health

challenge has past-life roots; nevertheless, the perspective of reincarnation can help us

understand what we could possibly be dealing with as we seek healing.

The familiar Cayce axiom, “Mind is the builder,” leads us to wonder exactly

which attitudes and emotions best foster healing. The readings emphasize several:

* Self-acceptance. As we rid ourselves of self-condemnation, we make room for

healing forces to enter.

Page 7: DISKS (Slipped) - Edgar Cayce · PDF fileFor those who would like to make a more careful study of these ... A violin or piano that is out of tune makes ... “Mind is the builder,”

DISKS CIRCULATING FILE

7

* Optimism and hope. We're encouraged to expect healing.

* Patience. It's much easier and quicker to destroy health than it is to rebuild it.

We need to be willing to patiently invest whatever time is required.

Alongside these specific attitudes and emotions, we're invited to use the creative

potential of visualization to stimulate our own healing. The mind's image-making

capacity can be directed in such a way that we “see” the healing transformation taking

place. This is not something that's accomplished in a single visualization session. Like

all the Cayce health-promoting approaches, it requires persistence and works best in

conjunction with other healing methods.

Perhaps the most important principle of the mind's relationship to healing

concerns purposefulness. A person can experience temporarily an outer healing - that is,

in the physical body only - yet still be spiritually sick. What cures the soul? A

commitment to a purposeful life. Not just any purpose, but instead one that reflects care

for other people.

On occasion a reading from Cayce would pose this question to the person who

was ill: What would you do with your life if you were healed? The position of Cayce's

psychic source was simply this: Why correct the physical condition unless there's also

going to be an inner correction? People who are looking for both inner and outer healing

are the best candidates for restored health and vitality. In Cayce's philosophy, healing

should equip us to be more useful to others.

With this ideal of service in mind, we might also wonder just how we can be

channels of healing to others. What principles govern our efforts to be healers to those

for whom we have concern? One principle is based on the spiritual connections that exist

between all people. It states that as we bring the experience of oneness into our own

consciousness, it can profoundly help someone else experience oneness, attunement, and

healing. Cayce's way of putting it was, “...raising the Christ Consciousness in self to

such an extent as it may flow out of self to him thou would direct it to.” (281-7)

For this to be most effective, the recipient must desire such help and have

requested healing prayer. Of course, we can always pray for someone, even if that

individual hasn't asked us. But it's important that we not assume we know what's needed

in any person's life. For one who hasn't specifically asked for prayer, we can simply offer

prayers of protection and blessing, rather than try to direct healing energies to that person

or for a specific condition.

In summary, the Cayce readings remind us that our natural state is wholeness and

health. An innate wisdom within ourselves knows what's needed for healing. We should

expect to get well, and we should be willing to do our part to make it possible.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with

suggestions for the relief and improvement of same, and you will answer any questions

regarding this body I may ask you.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before. There are many changes in

this body since last we had this here. The condition throughout the hepatic system and

circulation is much improved. The general conditions in the body show there are the

effects of toxins in the system, produced by a combination of causes - one from the

inflammation produced in the lower portion of the sacral, by the body having one of the

lower portions of the coccyx centers out of place at times, for it goes out and in, see?

depending upon the strain put on body, either in action on feet or of straining in bending.

Often when lying still, or sitting still, is eased. Then, this inflammation, in conjunction

with toxins from the colon, produces this toxin in the body that causes distress when the

body has any sudden change of temperature in the body, externally - that is, when any

draft, cold, over heating, or any condition that reduces suddenly the capillary circulation,

there becomes a centralized condition of the toxins in portions of the body, either

muscular or tissue, in extremities or in torso in body, that brings the distress as is called at

times rheumatism, neuritis, nephritis, or any inflammation of tissue or of muscular

condition. This the effect of toxins congested, or poor eliminations produced by a

weakened condition from the two conditions as produced.

3. To correct then, these conditions, be more careful of the diet, and do not take in system

that that causes the system to become congested in the eliminations, especially from the

colon; keeping the colon cleansed by high enemas - not by taking any emits that cause

irritation in the small intestine, for irritation produced to the eliminating centers in the

hepatics will produce a cold or low hepatic circulation, congesting liver and spleen

action, causing a slow reaction in pancreas. Then the reaction in the duodenum is to

produce too much of the lacteal and lactic fluids, that cause gas, pain, distress to the

stomach proper.

4. Then, with high enemas, the condition in the colon, the condition in the lower portion

of the anus itself, may be relieved, and this will assist in keeping the toxins from system,

provided the diet is looked after carefully.

5. The condition in the coccyx should be strengthened by hot applications when resting,

and never strain by lifting or standing too long on the feet, see?

6. This will bring general bettered condition for the body, for it is in very good condition,

considering the general physical conditions of the body. Ready for questions. (After

pause) We are through.

R E A D I N G

Time of Reading 10: 50 to 11: 15 A. M. Eastern War Time. Washington, D.C.

1. HLC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the

conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also

suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2805].

3. Now, as we find, while many conditions through the body are very good, there are

tendencies and inclinations existent the eliminating of which would eradicate the

disturbances from the system and prevent a great deal of disturbance later on.

4. Then, the suggestions for helpful forces for this body, [2805], would be rather in the

nature of preventative measures. And with the application of things to prevent the

conditions becoming localized, those distresses that already disturb the body would be

eliminated.

5. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [2805] we are speaking of,

present in this room:

6. First, - in the blood supply, - we find this is very good in the main. The reactions in

most every instance would be found negative. The balance in the hormones and the red

and white blood supply changes from time to time, owing to those conditions which we

find existent in the nerve supply and in the muscles and tendons in areas along the

cerebrospinal system.

7. When there are those distresses by the changes that necessarily come about in the body

unfoldment, or growth - as it may be termed, - that is: when there are those periods of the

changes wrought in the functioning of the glandular forces as related to the segments

especially along the cerebrospinal system, where there have been those conditions

brought about that affect the cartilaginous forces and the bursa and nerve supplies that

project through portions of same, from the coordinating of the central nervous system or

spinal cord with the nerves of the sensory as well as the sympathetic or vegetative nerve

system, - then, during those periods, we would find quite a variation in the leucocyte and

white blood, as to normalcy, and even at times a variation in numbers of the red blood

cells.

8. Then, as may be drawn as an inference from these suggestions, - the nervous system,

as related to the impulses carried in the body-forces themselves to the organs, to the

structural portions of the body, tends to produce that through such periods as to cause a

Page 13: DISKS (Slipped) - Edgar Cayce · PDF fileFor those who would like to make a more careful study of these ... A violin or piano that is out of tune makes ... “Mind is the builder,”

13

static condition, through the lack of the proper distribution of this blood plasm - in the

rebuilding or the taking from the system of the forces necessary. Hence such tendencies

would eventually be termed in the nature of rheumatic or arthritic conditions.

9. We find that these arise, then, from a pressure that is indicated in the cerebrospinal

system. The main disturbance, in this particular body, arose from the coccyx end of the

spine AND the effect upon the upper portion of the lumbar axis.

10. There will be found to be a circular lesion in the area of the coccyx, also a lateral

lesion more in the 3rd and 4th dorsal from which areas the nerves coordinate more with

the sympathetic and cerebrospinal impulses - this upon either side of the spine, but more

in the right area than in the left.

11. The effects of this upon the body are to bring a tautness through those areas between

the lumbar and the cervical areas; at times, as it were, as if a board were strapped on the

back, at others as if a cord were tied about the body in the area of the diaphragm - or

below.

12. Tiredness in the limbs, especially in the muscular forces just above the knee, under

side of limbs, or in the shoulder area, under the bone of the arm, or close along the

clavicle and sternum, - these cause uneasiness; not so much pain, but tautness and

uneasiness.

13. As to the organs themselves of the body, these we do not find involved save as

sympathetically. Naturally, with the pains, or the uneasiness or distresses, there are those

periods of not exactly a headache, but a dullness through the head, back of throat and

portions of these parts of the body feel tired or full or dry.

14. All of these are the effects that arise. Thus, these applications which we will indicate

would be as PREVENTATIVE MEASURES, and in the use of preventatives we would

eliminate the causes of these, - a strain in the back, but of such natures that the effect is to

the coccyx and the upper portion of the lumbar axis.

15. In making administrations for help for this body, we find that massage as combined

with a certain character of hydrotherapy treatments would eliminate these conditions.

16. First we would begin with having about once each week, for at least six to ten weeks,

the general hydrotherapy treatment including the following:

17. At the beginning of each treatment there would be first a hot and cold shower, or

needle spray. This would be followed by a Fume Bath, with Atomidine in the fume (in

the proportion of a teaspoonful of Atomidine to the pint of boiling water that would be in

the container inside the cabinet, so that the fumes would settle over the body).

18. Follow this with a general massage, especially along the whole of the cerebrospinal

system, but of a gentle nature. DO NOT attempt to make adjustments, or to crack even

the cervicals, in giving such a massage; but do massage with an equal combination of

Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh, heating the oil to add the myrrh. Let the massage be

made in a circular motion along either side of the spine, especially across the diaphragm

area, extending almost around the body, and the same at the top of the hips. Let the

massage extend all the way across these portions of the body, - and in the coccyx end of

the spine, this should be very gentle, but at times, especially during the first four periods,

let this area of the coccyx be first relaxed with wet heat. That is, take heavy toweling and

dip in a saturated solution of Epsom Salts - just as much Epsom Salts as will dissolve in

the amount of water necessary to wet the towel, you see, and this heated. Apply this, just

over the area from the top of the hip bone to the end of the spine. As it cools, then dip the

towel in the hot Salts solution and apply again. Do this twice, at each period of

treatment, at least for the first four times. Follow this with the gentle massaging into the

body of the Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh.

19. In the diet, - keep those foods that produce good eliminations for the body; plenty of

fruits and vegetables; including, in the fruits, such as figs, peaches, cooked apples but not

raw apples; apricots, grapes - all of these would be well for the body.

20. As to the regular exercise, - this should be rather of the mild but specific nature. Of

evenings when ready to retire, take the time to stretch the body, as it lies upon the bed;

swinging the lower limbs from one side to the other. Of mornings take a bit of setting-up

exercise, but not bending the back as of touching the floor, but rising on the toes extend

the hands gently - slowly - above the head, repeating this at least three to four times. Do

this daily throughout the whole period that the treatments are being taken.

21. After the six to ten weeks, we would give further instructions. There may be those

applications then of corrections, but if the massage is given PROPERLY the disturbance

should be corrected.

22. Ready for questions.

23. (Q) Do I have a ruptured or prolapsed intervertebral disk?

(A) Not in the present; a tendency for a prolapsus, but with the muscular forces and

nerves of body corrected, there should be brought about better conditions here.

24. (Q) Does the pain in the upper part of the backbone have any relation to that in the

lower part?

(A) As indicated, the circular lesion is in the lower portion, the lateral lesion is in the

upper portion. They have a direct connection one with the other.

25. (Q) Are these things the cause of lack of energy and continual tired feeling?

(A) As has been indicated, and the body will find this is a very good description of

the feelings at times in the body.

Do these things as outlined, and when six to eight to ten treatments have been given, we

would give further instructions.

26. (Q) Would playing golf interfere with the treatment?

(A) If taken gently; but a good heavy swing might undo the axis that is being

corrected in this - especially if you miss the ball!

27. We are through for the present.

(See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] for a Physiotherapist or

Naturopathist, who would follow directions to the minutest detail. The Atomidine may

be ordered from The Atomidine Co., 9 So. 8th Ave., Mt. Vernon, N.Y. It sells for $1 a

bottle. The physiotherapist or masseuse to whom you go would no doubt not ordinarily

use this, but it is that indicated in your case.

Perhaps Dr. Lulu Irene Waters, 1707 Columbia Rd., Washington, D.C., an osteopath,

could or would refer you to a good health bath place that would cooperate in giving these

correctly. When you have had the six to ten such treatments, let us know so we can make

an appointment for a Check Physical Reading to give further instructions.

Meredith Drug Co., 17th St., Va. Beach, has a supply of Atomidine on hand; in case you

wish to buy a bottle and take back to Washington with you. This is to be used only in the

Fume Bath, NOT to be taken internally - in your case.)

BACKGROUND OF READING 4020-1 M 38 B1. 9/23/43 [4020]’s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Sir,

On September 3, while en route to Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., I purchased a copy of

“Coronet.” I read there-in, a story about your wonderful diagnostic powers. I was

tempted at the time to cancel my trip, return home and get in touch with you. After some

debate with myself I finally decided to proceed to Rochester as long as I was so close.

To make a long story short, I had no success to speak of. They say that my symptoms and

certain laboratory tests all point to one condition but the X-rays show nothing.

Consequently, they do not recommend an operation at this time. They told me to return

in six months or a year if the condition became aggravated.

I am a Police officer in New York City. I am married and have a nineteen month old

daughter. I write to you now in more of a desperate mood than a despairing one. My job

is in jeopardy. There is a strong possibility that I may be retired for disability on an

annual pension of only a thousand dollars. That is entirely inadequate to support my

family in their accustomed way and I am not certain I could augment my income - in the

event I was retired - due to my condition.

Mr. Cayce, would you employ your marvelous gift in order to help me? Aside from any

fee you may charge, I assure you I will be eternally grateful to you for your efforts in my

behalf.

Hoping for a favorable reply from you in this matter, I remain,

Sincerely, [4020]

B2. 3/13/44 [4020]’s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.

My dear Mr. Cayce,

It is with great hopes and expectations that I await the day appointed for you to attempt to

help me find the solution to my health problem.

I have great faith in your ability, having seen you in New York at the Psychology Forum

[GD’s note: 11/9/43 Steinway Hall lecture by E.C.]. I would have been very glad to

speak to you that night, but the large number of people present together with the fact that

you had a train to meet, decided me against the selfish desire to converse with you. I

hope my forbearance at that time will fill you with the desire to extend yourself in my

behalf on the morning of March 27th and thereby guarantee results.

As to your suggestion that I inform you of my exact location on the appointed morning I

am happy to inform you that I have the good fortune to be off duty that day. I will be in

my Church from ten till 12 Noon praying for Divine Guidance for you in your efforts.

The Church is located a few blocks from my home which is located in the northern part

of Manhattan island.

I would like the following questions asked of you at the time of the reading:

Is my condition curable? Where is the exact location of the trouble? Is it due to a

muscular condition or to a spinal injury in the past? Can the condition be corrected

without an operation? If an operation is necessary where should it be performed - Boston,

New York, Baltimore or Rochester? If condition cannot be corrected will it eventually

result in loss of locomotive power? If curable without the necessity of an operation, what

procedure should I follow - osteopathic, neurological, etc.?

I sincerely hope that God, in His mercy, will give you the insight to diagnose my

condition and it’s cure. If it is His Will that you should fail in my case, I will still pray

that you may be of help to the many others who will seek your help in the future. I

sincerely believe that you have done so in the past and will continue to do so in the

future.

I close now, anxiously awaiting the outcome and praying that it will be successful.

Sincerely, [4020]

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the

conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also

suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4020].

3. As we find there are those tendencies, which unless taken in time, will cause a growing

disturbance. Here we find the effects of poor eliminations, with an infection that is

weakening the locomotory nerves and muscular forces of the extremities. The areas of

disturbance are the conditions existing in the lumbar-sacral and, at times, in the

secondary cardiac or the upper dorsal centers.

4. We would begin immediately having hydrotherapy treatments once each week,

including the short wave treatment - one time with the application in the upper dorsal and

the next time to the lumbar-sacral area or over the lumbar axis.

5. These treatments should include occasionally, about every other week, a mild Fume

Bath followed by a thorough massage with special reference to the locomotory centers.

6. Occasionally, when there is the fullness in the colon, do have a colonic irrigation.

7. Have the hydrotherapy treatments and massage in periods of three weeks straight

running, then, a rest period from these for three weeks, and so on.

8. We would have these done at such a place as Reilly’s.

9. In the diet be mindful that plenty of sea foods are taken, with fowl and lamb

occasionally. These carry those elements that will supply chemicals needed in the body.

10. Do use a great deal of raw vegetables, prepared in varied manners.

11. Occasionally about twice a month, have the Jerusalem artichoke in the diet. This

should be prepared in its own juices; that is, do not prepare it except in Patapar paper and

the juices cooked from same should be mixed with the bulk of the artichoke that is to be

eaten. Use one about the size of a hen egg, and season it to suit the taste. This carries

sufficient insulin [inulin?] to correct the diabetic tendencies or the improper assimilation

of sugars, so that these should be eliminated in the greater part from the diet (sugars).

Then, no usage of candy, cakes, or things of that kind, though honey may be taken

occasionally to supply the sweets, or the natural sweets of vegetables and fruits; such as

figs and those things that cause better eliminations.

12. Ready for questions.

13. (Q) What is source of infection?

(A) The lack of proper assimilation in the areas indicated, affecting the locomotory

centers.

14. (Q) Is it due to a muscular condition or to a spinal injury in the past?

(A) These conditions will be corrected in the manners indicated, through the massage

and the treatments that should be given regularly each week.

REPORTS OF READING 4020-1 M 38 R1. 4/1/44 [4020]’s letter to EC:

My dear Mr. Cayce

I have just received the copy of the reading you made for me on March 27th. I am

thrilled, pleased and very grateful to you because you have certainly diagnosed the

condition properly. With such a start, I am certain that the course of treatment will prove

effective and free me of this affliction which is threatening my livelihood.

As requested, I am sending you a chronological record of the condition, herein. I will

certainly keep you posted on the efficacy of the treatments as they progress.

About five years ago I became aware of a condition in my back, which at the times of

occurrence, I didn’t pay much heed to. This was a severe backache across the lumbar

region occasioned when I stood in one place for an hour or more. As a policeman, I

covered school crossings several times a day during the periods that the children were

coming and going. At times I suffered such discomfort from the ache that I was forced to

go into a nearby store, remove my gun and overcoat and bend forward over a chair-back;

arching and flexing the back for five to ten minutes before I got relief.

I also recall at this time that I would wake up some mornings during this period with a

severe pain in the shoulder muscles of my left arm. (Your reference, in the reading, to

the dorsal region, brings this strongly in relief.)

On the morning of February 18, 1942, I awoke to find that I could barely walk, due to an

extremely painful condition in the region of my left sacro-iliac joint and left hip. This

acute stage, during which I was forced to walk with a very pronounced limp, lasted for a

period of about two weeks. Then it settled down into a chronic condition. I had to walk

very slowly in order to minimize the limp. If I was on my feet for more than an hour the

condition got worse.

I went to a doctor. Over a two month period he diagnosed my trouble as the following:

1. Arthritis. 2. Rheumatic arthritis. 3. Sacro-iliac condition. The backache I mentioned

was explained to me as “sacralization”. The bony spurs on one of the lumbar vertebra

was growing to sacral structure. Medicines were variously prescribed and large doses of

vitamins were given hypodermically and taken orally. I finally gave this doctor up as I

was getting absolutely no relief.

20

In October I consulted a neurologist. At his suggestion, I entered N.Y. Neurological

Hospital and stayed there for four days. During that time numerous X-rays were taken,

complete blood tests were made and reflexes were examined many times.

This doctor said, that although there were definite indications of nerve derangement, he

felt that the basis of the trouble was an orthopedic condition and he arranged for me to

see an orthopedic surgeon.

The night I left the hospital I had occasion to bend over to pick up a light object; when I

attempted to straighten up I got a very acute stabbing pain in the RIGHT sacro-iliac

region that threw me on my hands and knees and took my breath away. I was unable to

rise to my feet for almost five minutes. When I did rise I found exactly the same

condition, on trying to walk, as I had after the first attack. The acute stage of this attack

only lasted about a week.

The orthopedist’s diagnosis was; a chronic lumbosacral sprain. He prescribed short-wave

diathermy over the lumbar region, coupled with massage of the same, three times a week.

A wide belt was ordered to be worn at all times and I was told to reduce my weight by 35

pounds. He also gave me a set of mild exercises to be performed every 2 hours. I

followed his orders religiously for three and a half months but no results were

forthcoming.

In January 1943 I entered N.Y. Orthopedic Hospital where my doctor performed a spinal

tap. The results were negative. He informed me that, although there was indication of

irritation to the nerve roots, that it wasn’t enough to warrant my condition. He finally

admitted that he didn’t know what was wrong with me and said he was baffled. He

suggested that we experiment with treatments and by a process of elimination we might

hit on the right cure.

My financial condition couldn’t stand this so I terminated my visits.

A friend suggested that I try an osteopath. I did. He explained my condition as follows:

The long muscle of the back, extending from the dorsal region of the spine to the hip was

thrown into a spasm causing pressure on the ambulatory nerves. He recommended

frequent colonic irrigations and three treatments weekly.

After several of these treatments I found that my condition seemed much better in

walking. But it only lasted about an hour and I was forced to resume my slow gait.

Finally in August I wrote to the Mayo Clinic asking for an appointment. As you know, I

went there. After days of re-examining me on my whole clinical history during my life;

again, numerous x-rays and finally a spino-gram. (This is an X-ray examination in which

air is injected into the spinal cord in order to show pressure points on the cord.)

Their diagnosis was that I had a slipped disk. In this condition, one of the cartilage

cushions between the vertebra is dislodged and protrudes into the spinal canal causing

pressure on the spinal cord. They told me that they were certain that this was correct as

the spinal fluid analysis showed definite irritation to the nerve roots. They were unable to

locate the exact place where this condition existed, (in 25% of these cases they are unable

to locate the exact location), so in view of the seriousness of the operation involved and

the possibility of having to extend the area of the surgery if the first probe didn’t reveal

the condition diagnosed, they advised against an operation at that time. They told me to

return to the Clinic if the condition got worse and that they would then make one

additional test and then operate.

Mr. [4020] New York, 34, New York

Dear Mr. [4020]

Thanks very, very much for yours of the 1st.

I am glad indeed to know that you were pleased with the information that was undertaken

for you on March 27th, and I am thinking if you have every reason to believe the

information was correct, the suggestions for help will be correct.

If I remember correctly, you were sent to Dr. Reilly in the R.C.A. Building. Do by all

means see Dr. Reilly himself, or Mr. Egan [Wm. Egan] and show them the reading. They

are quite familiar with the work and have handled quite a number of people with

marvelous results. I am sure if you don’t already know them, you will find them most

accommodating and very, very lovely men to deal with.

Thank you very much for giving us a review of the conditions that have been troubling

you, and I do hope that from time to time you will let us hear from you. We will be

anxious to check up on your trouble and to see what we can do.

Thanks a lot and hoping for the best for you and yours, and with every good wish, I

remain, Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/gm

microfilming all of the 30, 000 Edgar Cayce readings, complete with briefed

correspondence preceding and reports following each reading. A case number instead of

the name is used for all individuals who obtained readings. The case numbers are

microfilmed numerically, the subject index cards show the case numbers, so that each

case - or each subject - can be studied in a complete form and in its original setting. One

of our main purposes is to make available under subject headings all of the readings on

special diseases. Thus the Association’s Advisory Board of Physicians may be able to

test the information and make it available to clinics or hospitals treating specific diseases.

Were you able to follow the advice given in your Physical reading? If so, just what

Chief Complaint Severe pain in left hip and down outside of left leg

Date of Onset Feb. 17, 1942

Duration Still have condition - but not acute

My condition was diagnosed by the staff of Mayo Clinic (1943 - Aug.) as a slipped disc.

They could not determine just the exact location. Advised no operation unless pain

became unbearable or I became deformed due to pressure on the nerve roots in the spinal

cord.

This diagnosis was confirmed in June 1947, in the hospital for Joint Diseases in N.Y.C.

At that time I underwent a spinal test that included the injection of a dye that showed

opaque on X-ray film showing the point of pressure on the spinal cord.

By the time, as a result of avoiding any length of standing on my feet as much as

possible, the condition was not so painful so an operation was again vetoed.

Since 1947 I’ve suffered two acute attacks - the last one in April or May 1950 - from

which I recovered in about 6 weeks, during which time I slept on the floor with my legs

elevated and stayed off my feet as much as possible.

It looks as if Mr. Cayce, Lord rest his soul, was way off in my case, but I have no doubt

as to his sincerity and the fact that he HAS helped many others.

With best wishes for your laudable efforts in this interesting undertaking, I remain

Sincerely [4020]

P.S. I certainly be interested in the final findings so keep my name on the mailing list.

BACKGROUND OF READING 4690-1 M 8 None.

TEXT OF READING 4690-1 M 8 This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce in 1921.

P R E S E N T

Edgar Cayce; G. K. Nicodemus, Conductor; (?), Steno.

R E A D I N G

Time of Reading Unknown.

1. GKN: Now, Mr. Cayce, you are going to sleep, a peaceful and restful sleep. All the

organs of your body will function perfectly. You will be normal in every way. You will

hear me what I say and answer the questions I shall ask you slowly and distinctly so that

we may get every word. Now, Mr. Cayce, you are asleep and you have before you the

body of [4690], who is in the ... Apartment House, Apartment ..., ..., Ga. You will see

this body and go over it carefully and tell us what the trouble is, if anything, and what to

do for it to make it normal again and will answer any questions about this body, Mr.

Cayce.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have some conditions in this body, [4690] we

are speaking of, that are abnormal, most of which are caused by reflex condition rather

than from the direct or cause producing the trouble so that the treatment, the exercises

and medicinal properties used from time to time to correct this disturbance in the body

have been for the reflection rather than for the direct cause producing this condition in the

body which is, as we find, a mis-placement of the vertebrae in the spine, you see, in the

lumbar region, that at the second lumbar has been caused by the depression of the lower

end of the spine. That happened when he was small, or when he was a baby when he

struck his hip against something. The deflection to this portion then causes the

strangulation of the gangulars [ganglia] at this place deflecting nerve energy to the

various parts of the body from this, then treating the abnormal conditions expressed

through the sympathetic systems from this portion of the body, causing you see, the

undergrowth, the improper distribution of blood through parts of the body rebuilding the

forces through all the gangulars [ganglia] developing at times the proper action of the

lymphatic circulation through these parts causing at times an overflow at certain cycles of

the blood supply through the secondary cardiac from the fifth or sixth dorsal to the head

bringing about in its reaction the rigidity through their muscular centers.

3. Until we remove these conditions here along the spine, we will not form the proper

rebuilding force to the rest of the system. The development of the mind has been good,

which can be within itself made an extraordinary force through the susceptibilities that

this body has taken on from those that have come before.

4. To remove these conditions, of course, now we have many other reflex conditions

throughout the body, but to bring the body to the normal condition, make its normal

growth, to bring its normal weight, to relieve the depression, we would bring this to bear

on the body. The use by someone understanding conditions by which such diagnosis of

the anatomy of this body is undertaken and go through these channels to examine the

portion, [over] then relieve these conditions in this form and manner: Relaxation by

applied heat to lumbars and lower dorsals by bringing them into perfect unison from time

to time, the vertebrae here misplaced - that is, one is lower than the other. Strengthening

25

the muscles, holding these portions of the anatomy by the manipulation along each side

and we will see we will develop then the whole body.

5. The body as we see is just entering the second cycle of life or in the development age.

It is forming into the boney structures that if left in the condition will always produce this

nervous, irritable condition and, later, a form of paralysis, if left, so do this as we have

outlined. R. W. Aspley [R. W. Apsley (?), D.C., N.D. (?)] is the name we have to do this.

As to medicinal properties there will be some of these needed as well as to his exercises

which he is taking through the regular channels should be carried more under the

directions of the physician in charge than at the present time. Some are harmful. Do as

we have outlined if we would relieve this condition in the body of [4690].

6. (Q) What are the medicinal properties, Mr. Cayce.

(A) They are the action of bromides to the system. You will understand and use these

if given as we have here to him, Aspley [R. W. Apsley (?) D.C., N.D. (?)] we speak of,

Grand Building, Atlanta, Ga.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly and tell me the

conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also

suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body. Where there has been crushed vertebrae, there, to be sure,

is paralysis where pressure remains on the nerves, and such exists here.

3. If we will add these, for the betterment of the conditions, we may eventually bring

about the ability of the body for strength to handle self, though still hindered somewhat:

4. Use gentle massage, not severe, but gentle massage, along the spine in the areas where

the injuries were, with Cocoa Butter. About once a week, change this to equal portions

of Tincture of Myrrh and Olive Oil. Heat the oil to add the Myrrh. Thoroughly massage,

not severely, but gently.

5. Also we would add the Radio-Active Appliance. Keep the attachment plates very

clean. Polish these with emery paper each time before they are attached to the body, and

each time when taken off. Be sure to attach the same anode first each time, that is,

attached to the right wrist the first day. Attach the other anode to the opposite extremity.

Place the Appliance in ice for at least 20 minutes before it is attached to the body. Keep

this on for one hour each day. There will be little or no feeling except as the body uses

this period for meditation.

6. To do this read and analyze self’s own application of Exodus 19: 5, and Deuteronomy

the whole of Chapter 30. Then the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of St. John. If these are

learned, not merely as something to say, but as that applying to thee, ye will see in the

beginning the references by the Father, God, making the promises to thee, and that thine

body is a channel, yea, the temple of the living God, and that He, Father-God, may make

it whole, in and through the promises made by Him through Whom ye, as every other

soul, may come closer to the knowledge and then walk closer with God. For as He

promises, if ye open the door of thy consciousness, He, the Christ and the Father, will

come and abide with thee. This will bring help far beyond that which may be attained by

material hands, for ye seek, ye must seek the city whose foundations are of Him.

7. We are through.

R2. 11/29/50 Miss K. E. N.’s letter: “I am writing to you in behalf of a family who has

been very close to my family for more years than I can recall. In this family there is a

boy 29 years of age, who for the past 7 years has been failing in health. He was an ardent

college youth, active in all sports and civic and social activities. During football practice

one day, his back was injured, but soon after he got over it, and thought nothing more of

it until some time later, when his eyes started giving him trouble.

His parents took him to various doctors, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with him.

I might mention that his family do not suffer from financial responsibilities, and therefore

would bar no expense in contacting any possible help for their son. After his eyes started

bothering him, he began to get weak and his muscles seemed to be weakening. This

weakening started in his legs, and he was having trouble walking. It seemed to be

creeping gradually and slowly upward. Every doctor that saw him said it was not

creeping paralysis, but could not definitely tell what it really was. From then on this

weakening of the joints continued until now he has great difficulty in raising himself

from a lying position without help, as his arms are also weakening. He cannot stand at

all. He loves the ocean, and with great anxiety and slow difficulty with the aid of a

strong, husky boy who comes to help, he is lifted from his chair or bed to a sand wheel

chair and pulled out on the beach to the ocean. Once in the water, he seems to become

supple, and has been able to manipulate himself quite well. But then when he is pulled

out of the water, he becomes a limp, uncontrolled body.

Throughout these many confined years, this boy has broadened his mind, not so much by

reading, as he cannot, but by listening to others read to and for him, and by keeping up

with sports and current events over the radio. His mind has not thus far been affected.

My reason for writing to you about this boy’s case is that although I did not know Mr.

greater power than anyone knows or can appreciate, and I am in hopes that there might be

some kind of little encouragement from your files or some new suggestion that has not

been tried. All the information I have given may not be just exactly right, so if any more

information or other facts of his case are needed, his parents will be more than eager to

“What is a Slipped Disc?” Good Housekeeping Magazine article, July 1965

Back pain of any kind is distressing. Some types are extremely difficult to treat. One

lower-back condition that does respond to treatment in most cases involves what is popularly

known as a slipped disc (often called a herniated or ruptured disc).

The disc is a highly elastic structure between 23 of the 33 vertebrae or individual

bones that make up the spinal column. It is composed of a pulpy tissue (cartilage) inside a

wall of gristle and fibrous tissue and firmly bonded to each vertebra. The disc serves as a

joint to permit movement and as a shock absorber to protect the vertebrae. A slipped disc

occurs when this intervertebral structure breaks down or is injured. In Most cases, this

condition can be eased or cured without surgery, say orthopedic surgeons, doctors who

specialize in treating bones, muscles and joints, and neurosurgeons, specialists of the nervous

system including the brain and spinal cord.

Breakdown of the intervertebral joint usually occurs over a period of years.

Deterioration because of aging leads to weakening of the wall. (Less frequently, breakdown

occurs from a single, violent body movement or a strain caused by lifting.) The weakened

wall begins to bulge – like an auto tire at a weak spot on the sidewall – and enters the

adjacent spinal canal where it may press a nerve root against the bony canal side. This causes

pain. In many cases, the weakened area eventually ruptures, or tears. If the disc wall tears,

fragments of the inner disc material escape through the tear and cause the pressure on the

spinal nerve root. Most disc problems occur in the lower back, just above the pelvis.

Bed rest, often supplemented by traction, will relieve the majority of victims, for the

most part permanently. Complete lack of movement usually allows the disc to heal and the

pressure on the irritated nerve to be relieved. Many doctors advise at least three weeks of bed

rest, but others believe symptoms should be relieved within a week or less. If pain persists or

recurs despite bed rest and incapacitates the patient, surgery is required. One or both of two

surgical procedures are used. In the first, the escaped disc material is removed and the disc

space is cleaned. Depending upon disc location, only the removal of the escaped material is

done in some cases. In the second procedure, after the cleaning is performed, the vertebrae

adjacent to the disc are fused to each other with a bone graft. Many specialists believe fusion,

which requires much more operative and recuperative time, is not necessary unless additional

spinal problems exist. Other specialists say relief is not as likely to be permanent without

fusion. Although it is major surgery, doctors consider either disc operation to be relatively

routine and safe.

Many neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons say manipulations on the spinal

column should not be attempted. “Any manipulative therapy is hazardous,” says a spokesman

for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Such manipulation is usually performed by

osteopathic physicians or chiropractors. Osteopaths are practitioners who can diagnose or

treat any ailment, prescribe drugs and perform surgery in most states the same as doctors of

medicine. Their training in many respects is the same as that for medical doctors and

manipulation is only one of the ways they treat patients. The American Osteopathic

Association says “properly applied manipulation frequently precludes need for surgery in the

more common disc problems.” Chiropractors are not medical doctors, have far lass training

and cannot prescribe drugs and perform surgery. Their treatment of ailments largely involves

spinal manipulation.

Relief for Your Aching Back Dr. Julian’s Health & Healing, June 2008

For years, back pain was Joe's constant companion. Every morning he awoke with

throbbing and stiffness in his lower back that got better as the day progressed, but never

really went away. An avid backpacker, Joe managed to stay fairly active in spite of his

discomfort. However, unrelenting pain can wear down even the best of us.

Joe tried over-the-counter drugs and months of chiropractic treatments with

minimal results. He saw an orthopedic surgeon who ordered X-rays and an MRI, and

gave him steroid injections that provided some relief, but the pain quickly returned. Then

Joe picked up an issue of Health & Healing and read about a unique treatment we use at

the clinic to alleviate chronic back and neck problems. Even though it wasn't covered by

insurance, he figured it was worth a try. Anything was better than living with pain.

Today, two years later, 60-year-old Joe feels like a million bucks. Last year he

trekked 68 miles of Yosemite's John Muir trail, and over the holidays he hiked the Grand

Canyon – free from back pain.

"Why Didn't My Doctor Tell Me About This?"

If you have chronic back pain, you're probably familiar with steroid injections –

shots of the hormone cortisone into the area around the spinal nerves to curb

inflammation. These shots only help about half the people who get them and relief lasts a

few weeks at best.

The therapy that eliminated Joe's back pain, prolotherapy, also involves

injections, but of a different sort. Prolo targets the ligaments, the bands of connective

tissue that hold the vertebrae in proper position. When these ligaments are weak or lax,

the spinal column becomes misaligned, triggering muscle spasms, compression and

irritation of nerves, and pressure on disks that may lead to degeneration and herniation

(bulging). During a typical prolotherapy session, dextrose or another sugar-based, slightly

irritating solution is injected into the weakened ligaments, initiating a healing response

that repairs and strengthens them. Once these supporting structures are strong and taut,

symptoms disappear – not for weeks but for years.

So why hasn't your doctor told you about prolotherapy? There's no logical reason,

other than the fact that MRIs and other expensive diagnostics, drugs, and surgeries are so

entrenched – and profitable. Costs associated with the treatment of back pain approach

$86 billion per year, a 65 percent increase over the past decade. Spinal surgeons are the

best paid of all specialists, with an average yearly compensation of $670,000 and more

than $1,350,000 for top earners.

To Cut or Not to Cut...

More than a million back surgeries are performed annually. For patients with

sciatica (pain in the hip radiating into the leg caused by nerve irritation from a herniated

disk), a lumbar diskectomy, or removal of segments of the offending disk, is the most

popular surgical procedure.

Dartmouth Medical School researchers found that this surgery does relieve pain –

but no better than noninvasive treatment. They assigned 501 surgical candidates to have

either diskectomy or conventional treatment (physical therapy, drugs, etc) and followed

Page 32: DISKS (Slipped) - Edgar Cayce · PDF fileFor those who would like to make a more careful study of these ... A violin or piano that is out of tune makes ... “Mind is the builder,”

32

them for two years. Both groups reported substantial improvements in pain, function, and

disability, but 5 percent of the surgical patients had complications, and 4 percent required

repeat surgery within a year.

Another popular surgery is spinal fusion, in which two vertebrae are joined

together with bone grafts in an attempt to stabilize the spinal column and relieve pain.

This surgery, too, often improves symptoms, especially in patients with degenerative disk

disease. But when a Norwegian study compared it with noninvasive treatment, both

groups fared equally well. The difference? A price tag of more than $50,000!

I understand that anything promising relief is mighty attractive when you're in

pain, but as you can see, back surgery isn't what it's cracked up to be. And don't get

sucked in by "hard" MRI evidence of herniated or degenerated disks. Studies show that

such abnormalities are very common, even in individuals who have no pain at all.

What About Drugs?

Drugs are the first treatment most people turn to, and they can certainly be a

blessing during an acute bout of pain. However, prolonged use of virtually all pain-

relieving medications spells trouble. Tylenol is hard on the liver and kidneys. Ibuprofen

and other NSAIDs damage the stomach and intestinal tract. COX2 inhibitors increase risk

of heart attack. And opiates are highly addictive – you may recall Rush Limbaugh's

widely publicized problems a few years back stemming from his addiction to painkillers

he took for back pain.

You can sidestep some of the adverse effects of prescription painkillers by

applying them topically. Although few physicians seem to know about this, NSAIDs,

such as ketoprofen, and anesthetics, like ketamine, can be mixed into rapidly absorbed

creams or gels by compounding pharmacies. When rubbed into painful areas, these

preparations provide fast and often dramatic relief with little systemic drug absorption.

Incredibly, one in four primary care physicians actually prescribes antidepressants

for patients with back pain. That's right, antidepressants. These drugs offer the worst of

both worlds: They're dangerous and ineffective. Earlier this year, researchers reviewed

studies comparing antidepressants to placebos for treating low back pain and found zero

evidence that these drugs do any good. In fact, they didn't even relieve depression in

patients who also happened to be depressed! If your doctor makes such an ill-informed

recommendation, find yourself a new doctor.

Nature's Pain Relievers

Whether your pain is short-lived or longstanding, you have options other than

drugs. One is fish oil, nature's richest source of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.

When 250 patients with chronic back pain took high doses of fish oil along with their

NSAIDs or COX-2 inhibitors for an average of 75 days, 60 percent reported symptomatic

improvement – and more than half discontinued their drugs altogether.

We also have good success at the clinic with two herbal pain relievers, Asalixx (a

white willow bark extract from Germany) and Univestin (a blend of two herbs). Both of

these botanicals have proven to be as effective as – and infinitely safer than – COX-2

inhibitors in relieving pain. Additionally, magnesium and potassium supplements have

been shown to improve chronic low back pain, likely by correcting disturbances in acid-

base balance.

33

Vitamin D supplements may be beneficial as well. Deficiencies in this vitamin

can result in softened bones, a condition called osteomalacia that may manifest as

persistent back pain. Researchers tested the vitamin D level of 360 men and women who

had suffered low back pain for at least six months and found that 83 percent of them were

deficient in this nutrient. Study participants then took 5,000-10,000 IU of vitamin D per

day for three months. Significant improvements were noted in all patients who initially

had low levels, and in a majority of those whose levels were already in the normal range.

Noninvasive Therapies That Really Help

A number of other noninvasive therapies are also very helpful. Acupuncture has a

4,000-year-old track record of safety and efficacy in relieving back pain. Chiropractic

manipulations restore spinal alignment, increase mobility, and decrease pain. Massage

relaxes muscle strain and spasm, which are common causes of back pain. Biofeedback

reduces muscle tension and pain perception. Physical therapy improves function and

discomfort by strengthening the supporting musculature. Infrared light therapy increases

circulation, promotes healing, and relieves pain. And electrical stimulation, such as

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), is one of the most popular therapies at the clinic

for all types of pain.

I can't guarantee that prolotherapy or any of the noninvasive treatments we

discussed will completely eliminate your back pain. No single therapy works for

everyone, but most people will find at least one treatment that really helps. The bottom

line is that no one should have to live with pain.

Recommendations:

• Talk to your doctor about topical NSAIDs and anesthetics, which require a

prescription and must be ordered from a compounding pharmacy. To find a compounding

pharmacy, call (800) 927-4227 or visit iacprx.org.

• To locate a doctor who is certified in prolotherapy, visit the American

Association of Orthopaedic Medicine's Web site, aaomed.org.

• If you'd like to receive treatment for back pain at the Whitaker Wellness

Institute, call (800) 488-1500.

Sciatica: Surgery or Not Dr. Bruce West

Health Alert, October 2008

The old style surgery for a herniated lumbar disk is becoming a thing of the past.

Studies, including the latest, show that surgery does little good. In 2007 researchers in

Belgium reported the results of a study of patients with herniated disks and sciatica. One

group received conservative treatment, the other surgery. Not surprising to me, it proved

what we have been saying for decades.

While those receiving surgery recovered a little quicker, after one year there was

no difference in disability, back pain, or leg pain between the two groups.' And if

chiropractic treatments were included with the conservatively treated patients, they likely

would have gotten better as quickly. Instead, only painkillers and physiotherapy were

used in this study.

The study also showed that some of the patients who opted for conservative

treatment eventually had surgery. They also had no better outcome after one year. And if

they had known that they would be no better off one year later, most would have

certainly avoided the surgical intervention and all that goes with it.

Once again we are finding out that surgery for disks is often not needed. Disk

herniations heal themselves. And conservative treatment, including chiropractic and deep

tissue therapy, is the best course of action. And if you throw in some nutrition for bones

and joints during conservative therapy, results would be better still.

So remember, most joint problems heal themselves without surgery given proper

treatment and nutrition. And the nutrition needed to heal herniated disks, joint injuries,

broken bones, and broken bones that will not heal is raw bone nutrition. Two premier raw

bone products are from Standard Process: Biost (3 daily) and Calcifood Wafers (6-12

daily). I always include a tablespoon of Blue Ice High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil daily to

provide the additional vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids needed.

The "New" Surgeries

Today microsurgery is the rage. Even spinal surgeries are now done

microscopically, leaving the patient much less "damaged" after surgery. And newer still

is microsurgery performed with lasers.

To find out about this, go to www.laserspineinstitute.com. At this time, we cannot

recommend this procedure. As soon as a more complete investigation of this type of

surgery is finished, I will let you know the results.

For now, just remember that almost all joint problems heal themselves given the

proper therapy and nutrition. Surgery for joints (other than traumatic injuries and bone

breaks) is now truly the treatment of last resort.
