Distributive PropertyThe product of a and (b + c):a(b + c) = ab + ac(b + c)a = ba + ca
The product of a and (b - c)a(b - c) = ab - ac(b - c)a = ba - ca

Examples:1.) 4(x + 2) = 4(x) + 4(2)
4x + 8
2.) (x + 1)9 = 9(x) + 9(1)9x + 9
3.) 4(x - 2) = 4(x) - 4(2) 4x - 8
4.) (x - 4)6 = (x)6 - (4)66x - 24

Rewrite using the distributive property
1.) -3(a + 3)
2.) (3 + b)(-6)
3.) -(c - 7)

Combining like terms
Like terms: are terms that have the same variable raised to the same power
An expression is simplified if it has no grouping symbols and if all the like terms have been combined.
Example 1: 11d + 5 d= 16d
Example 2: 17s - 8 - 12s= 5s-8

Try these:
1.) -15m + 5 + 20m
2.) 35y + 20y + 12
3.) 49n - 12a + 8n + 14a
