Dear Lion Family,
Lion Sandhya and I want to
thank you all for your partic-
ipation and encouragement
during the District Cabinet
Officer Installation. My family
members who came from
India thoroughly appreciated
your hospitality and love.
Thank you for extending
your love and appreciation
to my family.
DG Visits: Per the schedule,
I started visiting clubs. As I
mentioned in many occa-
sions, this year’s DG visits
are going to be little differ-
ent. I want to conduct them
in an informal, interactive
and informative way. We are
going away with all the lec-
tures and resume reading. I
will be sharing a lot of your
club’s historical data and
analyzing it with you.
Cabinet Meetings: Our
first cabinet meeting is
around the corner (Aug
20th). Washoe region has an
exciting array of forums for
you. We also have a special
day long Health and
Wellness fair. Trust me
you don’t want to miss this. I overheard that Regions are
challenging each other on
who is going to put up the
best Cabinet Meeting. You
are the best judge so don’t
miss it.
Celebrating 100 Years of
Service: I almost forgot.
Lions Clubs International has
created a banner for Lions
around the world to
sign. The banners from each
District will be assembled
together to create a larger
banner to be displayed in
Chicago at the Centennial
Convention June 30 – July 4,
2017. Show your Lion’s
Pride at the August 20th
Cabinet Meeting. Come by
and sign the banner.
Communication: To
streamline our communica-
tion and information sharing,
our district website is being
revamped. Hopefully it will
be fully ready by the end of
August. We have district
wide standard emails ad-
dresses for cabinet officers,
committee chairs and clubs.
Please refer to this bulletin/
district website / directory.
Directories for clubs (for
officers) will be distributed at
the cabinet meeting on Aug
20th.
Grow Your Club, Expand
Your Service: In celebra-
tion of our Centennial, we
need to take our association
—continued on next page.

to new heights by inviting
new members and increas-
ing our service. Each Cali-
fornia Lion impacts lives of
50 people a year, so imagine
the impact your club can
make when each member
invites family, friends and
neighbors to join us in ser-
vice.
No matter where you are,
there's an opportunity for
your club to reach out to
the poor and underserved,
and to help bring hope to
humanity. Visit the LCI

2016-2017 District 4-C5 Installation of Officers Sunday, July 17, 2016 — Folsom Community Center
“Sustainable Service” through Lionism
Hello fellow Lions
of District 4-C5
I have just finished my first full
month as your Second Vice
District Governor. The month
went by very quickly. Do you
remember PCC Richard Wil-
mot’s Tazmanian Devil hover-
ing over his head during his
term? I may feel like that by
the time my terms are over in
a few short years. I anticipate that come April, I will look
back during our District Con-
vention in San Ramon and will
enjoy seeing so many District 4
-C5 Lions recognized for all
that they have done during the
year. If you have not attended
one of our District conven-
tions, I encourage you to join
us for a fun time at the San
Ramon Marriott April 28 thru
30, 2017.
I am looking forward to follow-
ing Governor Kumar and 1st VDG Nick around the District
during the official Governor’s
visits. It is during these visits
that the Cabinet members hear
what Lion members are doing
to benefit their local communi-
ties. Often we take many ideas
for projects back to our own
home clubs. That is what Lions
are about, not only do “We
Serve,” but we share as well.
As 2nd Vice District Governor,
I automatically became a mem-
ber of the Board of Directors
of the Lions Education Founda-
tion (LEF). This terrific 501(c)3
organization funds so many
wonderful youth oriented pro-
jects through matching grants.
If your club has not applied to
LEF in the past to assist in your
youth oriented project, please
check out their website for
more information (lef4c5.com).
I was already a board member
of Northern California Sight
Association (NCLSA), but if I
hadn’t been, as 2nd Vice Dis-
trict Governor I would have
automatically become a board
member of that 501(c)3 organi-
zation. I encourage you to
check out their website as well (nclsa.com). Both are wonder-
ful organizations that offer so
much, but are occasionally
underutilized by local Lions
Clubs.
As 2nd Vice District Governor,
I also have the responsibility of
getting the word out there
about the Rose Parade Float
and the International Food Fair.
I have Lions Centennial Rose
Float pins, banner patches,
raffle tickets for a beautiful
stained glass oval picture frame,
and raffle tickets for a vacation
drawing. We will have a table
at the next Cabinet meeting on
August 20, so stop by and see
what is available.
The International Food Fair is
on October 9 at the Folsom
Community Center. All pro-
ceeds go towards the Educa-
tional Training grants which are
open to all Lions for programs
in Lionism, including education-
al training sessions at Canada-
USA forums and Lions Leader-
ship Institutes. Your club can
participate by hosting a food
booth, or simply by attending
the enjoyable event where we
do what we do best, partake in
consuming delicious interna-
tional foods.
See you on August 20 at the
Cabinet Meeting located at the
Western Collegiate Academy
in Rocklin. Until then stay cool
during the summer heat waves
and keep your homes fire safe
during this dry hot season.

Club 1st Vice Presidents:
On July 25th I sent an email to
all the 1st Vice Presidents and
although I have not heard from
everyone, I have received a
good number of responses.
Now, part of the problem may be that I told you in my July
Pride article to look for my 1st
VDG address; however, I sent
the message from home using
my [email protected]. You

1st VDG
Nick McNicholas
Looking forward seeing you
at our first cabinet meeting
on August 20th.
1st Vice District
Governor Nick McNicholas
I wish to thank all the Lions
Clubs and members of District
4-C5 for their participation and
support of Lions Clubs Interna-
tional Foundation over the
years I have been Chairperson.
Many of our clubs have partici-
pated in awarding a Melvin
Jones Fellowship to deserving
members of their club. There
also has been special club fund
raising for the various disasters we have had all over the world.
It is with gratitude that I com-
pliment the clubs of district 4-C5 for exceeding their dona-
tions over last years by nearly
$8500. While we were not the
top district, we were 6th out of
15 Districts. A total of over
$33,000 went to LCIF. Well
done.C-5.
Another accolade for the Dis-
trict is that over 50% (51.85%)
of the clubs participated in
supporting LCIF. Again we
were 6th out of 15 Districts in
the percent of clubs participat-
ing. Well done, again, 4-C5.
Congratulations to the follow-
ing Lions who became new
Melvin Jones Fellows this past
Lions year. They have been
included in the list of the 822
Melvin Jones Fellows in the
District of which 83 are pro-
gressive.
Your new LCIF Chairperson is
Lion Jerry Retzlaff. Please be as
generous as you have been in
the past and continue to sup-
port both Lion Jerry and LCIF.
It has been a pleasure to have
served such a worthy cause.
Past Council Chair

As you all know, PCC Lion
Derek Ledda was endorsed as
a candidate by District 4-C5 for
International Director. His
campaign committee wants to
take this opportunity to explain
why we should elect PCC
Derek for the office of Interna-
tional Director for Lion Clubs
International.
“We support Lion Derek because
he has the insight, personal skills,
and commitment necessary to
develop future leaders; from local
club members and officers to
district, state, and international
committee members. Lion Derek
has spent his time and efforts
organizing clubs, finding and
recruiting 22 new members. He is
charismatic and passionate which
makes him the right leader at the
right time. Lion Derek has proven
to be a dedicated Lion and has
our support as International Di-
rector.”
For more information or up-
dates about PCC Derek’s cam-
paign, please visit his website

Grass Valley Foothill Lions George & Sandy Woods Inducted into Nevada County Fair Hall of Fame
The Union Newspaper’s recent Local News Head-line read, “Hall of Famers George, Sandy Woods to be inducted into the 2016 Nevada County Fair Hall of Fame August 10.” This wonderful recognition will take place on opening day of August 19, 2016. Grass Valley Foothill Lions George and Sandy Woods are active members in their community. According to the Union article, George and Sandy have been involved with the fair since they moved to Nevada County in 1985. The article continues with citing that they won Best of Show for the Zin-fandel from their vineyard; and Sandy won the Proud Tradition award for needlepoint and Best of Show in preserved foods. Both Lions George and Sandy volunteered count-less hours over the next few years with anything that needed doing with the Nevada County Fair. The Union article added that Sandy started working
as deputy manager at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in 1995 and served as CEO from 2009 to 2015. She served as a member of the board of directors of the Western Fairs Association for 10 years and as president in 2012 and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2015. Sandy recently retired passing the torch to her suc-cessor, Rea Callendar. Lions George and Sandy will be married 40 years in October, have three children, Peggy, Jenine and Dan; as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In the Union article, CEO Callendar stated, “Sandy and George’s service and dedication to the Nevada County Fair are commendable. They have worked tirelessly on behalf of the Nevada County Fair, and their work has ensured that the fairgrounds can be enjoyed by future generation. It is an honor to be able to cele-brate them.” Lions Sandy and George are outstanding examples of Lions that exemplify our slogan, "We Serve.” Congrat-ulations to both of these special Lions.
