th October 2015

PP Mike Nella presided over and welcomed everyone to our meeting tonight.

President Report.

1. PP Michael is doing a great job while I ’am away thanks mate, you’re doing that well I

don’t think I will come back.

2. The recent council elections show the calibre of the members of the Kwinana Rotary Club,

we now have three elected councillor’s to the city of Kwinana, that’s going to start the bull

dust on face book about the Rotary Club running the council, or worst still council running

Rotary.

3. Congratulations to Wendy Cooper been re-elected for a second term and Sheila Mills

Joining Bob Thompsons on council well done to both Wendy & Sheila.

Take my advice — I'm not using it.

Talk is cheap. Until you hire a lawyer.

Sure, I'd love to help you out ... now, which way did you come in?

19th October 2015

The international Committee has carried out the following.

Visited another village Naha’e with all the same problems, very much like Buibela community of 21 family’s with

very little, no water, power or anything else.

There is a spring above the village at 942 metres in elevation and 1200 metres from the School at 868 metres

elevation relevantly easy to do, however we had a meeting with the community and told them of our

requirements they need to ask us formally to help, be prepared to work for the project, be prepared to maintain

the asset, and to maintain it, and write a simple agreement signed by all the land owners from the spring to the

school that this is what they all want.

Returned to Buibela for a late lunch and a thank you ceremony, all very touching and rewarding, also received our tais as a thank you from them. Arriving at back at Baguia at about 1800 hours

Ted, Manna Leo, Bob & myself then visited two village’s Bubuha this village has no power as yet, however they

believe it will get to them in the next 12 months as the route is been surveyed now.

Also at Larisula consisting of the sub villages of Uro, Bai-aha, Uatatefo, lau-hare & Bibidae with approx. 629

people.

The government is now spending just under $6 million to upgrade the irrigation system need to ensure whether

they are also supplying water to the village.

Ted and Mick with Mario connected the Padre’s bore at Laga to the high school tanks. The bore is pumping 25 litres per minute into the 2 x 5,500 litre school tanks, with just under 40 metres in elevation, a very good result credit to all, and now a job that has been on the books for 3 years is now completed. The Suco from Saelari came down to see us, appears all appears in order now with the agreement and all the

people are now signed onto the agreement.

The Xefe and his wife also came down from Buibela for a festival and where extremely happy their tank, it took

about 24 hours to fill and has been overflowing ever since.

Went to Saelari to inspect the site again as neither Ted nor Mick has seen the site since Mr Antonio from Paya’s

Sisters was there and played around with the power line and the pump.

After much questioning it was established that the extra power wire was run to the pump to enabling three

phase to be used, however only single phase was connected to the meter box and one of the phases was a rogue

phase, two of the phase were giving around the 240 volts mark however the one was down to 169 volts.

The villagers have arranged with the East Timor Electricity Department (EDTL) for surplus power poles and

heavier cable, the cable EDTL will supply is suitable for three phase or single phase @ 240 volts and 16 amps.

Once the villagers renew the power line with the new poles and wire to the EDTL standards and it is approved by

the EDTL, and the power source has been connected each end by EDTL with hopefully a three phase metre at the

pump end, as we have been stuck with a three phase pump. We can then and not before come back to install the

pump in either three phase or single phase

At this stage all is going very well Max Bird

Polio this week 14th October 2015

In Lao People's Democratic Republic a circulating

vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1 (cVDPV1) outbreak has

been confirmed, with one case, an eight year old boy who

had onset of paralysis on 7 September.

Outbreaks of cVDPVs can arise in areas of low population

immunity, emphasizing the importance of strong

vaccination coverage.

Thirty five million children were reached with polio

vaccines during the September campaigns in Pakistan.

Nearly 3 million children who were previously missed

were vaccinated during the catch up days following this

campaign. ‘Continuous community-protected vaccination’

(community based vaccinators who carry out

immunization activities on an ongoing basis) and health

camps are helping to reach children in the most difficult to

reach areas.

A young Naval Officer was in a terrible car accident, but due to the heroics of the hospital staff

the only permanent injury was the loss of one ear.

Since he wasn’t physically impaired he remained in the military and eventually became an

Admiral. However, during his career he was always sensitive about his appearance.

One day the Admiral was interviewing two Navy Master Chiefs and a Marine Gunnery Sergeant

for his personal staff.

The first Master Chief was a Surface Navy type and it was a great interview. At the end of the

interview the Admiral asked him, “Do you notice anything different about me?” The Master

Chief answered, “Why yes. I couldn’t help but notice you are missing your starboard ear, so I

don’t know whether this impacts your hearing on that side.”

The Admiral got very angry at this lack of tact and threw him out of his office.

The next candidate, an Aviation Master Chief, when asked this same question, answered, “Well

yes, you seem to be short one ear.” The Admiral threw him out also.

The third interview was with the Marine Gunnery Sergeant . He was articulate, extremely sharp,

and seemed to know more than the two Master Chiefs put together.

The Admiral wanted this guy, but went ahead with the same question.

“Do you notice anything different about me?” To his surprise the Gunnery Sergeant said, “Yes.

You wear contact lenses.”

The Admiral was impressed and thought to himself, what an incredibly tactful Marine.

“And how do you know that?” the Admiral asked. The Gunny replied, “Well sir, it’s pretty hard

to wear glasses with only one ear.”

A man in Scotland calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says

“I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-

five years of misery is enough.”

'Dad, what are you talking about?' the son screams. “We can't stand the sight of each

other any longer” the father says. “We're sick of each other and I'm sick of talking about

this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her.”

Franticly, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.

“Like hell they're getting divorced!” she shouts, “I'll take care of this!”

She calls Scotland immediately, and screams at her father

“You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there.

I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow.

Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. 'Sorted!

They're coming for Christmas - and they're paying their own way.'
