Vice President Rtn. Ashok Puri is a true Rotarian in thought and action. He not only visited all our rural projects from time to time at Maloya, Faida, Makhan Majra, Zirakpur, Nayagaon, Sarangpur and Khuda Alisher but also did liaison with all the sarpanches and teachers connected with these projects. Even till today he is actively involved with our two current projects…..Construction of school rooms in Govt Middle School Raipur Kala and the toilet project in Govt. Model High School Manimajra Town, both of which we plan and hope to finish before this Rotary year is out. Rtn. Ashok Puri is a multiple Paul Harris fellow and Paul Harris Society member. Thank you Ashok ji for being a great support.

Director Club Service Rtn. Salil Bali is a perfectionist. He was instrumental in the success of all of our club events this year. His achievement is reflective in the record attendance in major club events. A special mention is due for his idea of the pledge undertaken by Rotary Members to educate maximum children of school going age under Asha Kiran programme by lighting a candle. His talents have been keenly spotted by our chief guest DGE Raman Aneja who has appointed him Additional District Secretary for his year. Salil we wish you success in all your future endeavors. Thank you for being a great support.

Director Community Service Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra (President Nominee) is a rising star of our club and has the knack of achieving the unachievable. She has been instrumental in completing many community service projects - be it medical projects, literacy, WINS, RILM, E-learning, community toilets and massive tree plantation. I could go on and on till you get tired but she has also the expertise of showcasing the same in a beautiful manner, our best P.R. person for the club, her expertise was recognized even by R.I. President Ravindran when he visited our WINS project in Govt High School Manimajra, where she gave a demonstration to children for hand wash. She is another one who has been noticed by the keen eye of DGE Raman to join his District team as RILM project coordinator and also District Interact Chair. Thanks for a big support this Rotary year.

Director International service PP Rtn. Deepak Sood is a silent worker. He has handled the reports of all our global grant projects namely, 1. The hearing aid project 2. Benches project and 3. E-learning project. We have received another global grant very recently for sanitary facilities in schools. He has also handled the microloan account. This year under his regime we have dispensed 15 microloans of an amount totaling 4.10 lac. Thank you Deepak for a job well done. Due to his capabilities. DGE Raman has appointed him as Assistant Governor for the next Rotary year. We are proud and honoured and congratulate you for getting this assignment.

Director Youth Service Rtn. Sundeep Singh Sawhney is full of enthusiasm and initiative. Many times I felt like calling him Rotaractor Sundeep as he led so many programmes of Rotaract and Interact of Chandigarh Midtown including their installations and their involvement in Rotary projects. A record of sorts. His humanitarian act of getting involved in saving the life of a Rotaractor’s father by way of arranging for his heart surgery in PGI Chandigarh is worth applauding. Since the patient was from EWS category the funds were collected by members in the club meeting and Sundeep arranged for the surgery at very subsidized rate. Thank you Sundeep for your overall support.

IPP Rtn. Ravi Tulsi is a source of inspiration for me. We have carried on with most of the laudable projects started last Rotary year. He has promised a contribution of Rs. 10.00 lac through the good offices of his brother for girls sanitation project of our club. We are eagerly looking forward to receive this grant so that our planned project can be executed. Thank you Ravi ji for your great support.

President Elect Rtn. Amarjit Singh has been a keen observer of the overall activities this year. His observations, comments and advice from time to time has been helpful to me in serving the club to the best of my ability. He is all set to take over the baton at the last lap of the year and am sure that with his youthful energy, he will carry it forward at a greater pace. Amarjit I wish you the best in all your endeavours and pray that the flag of Rotary Chandigarh Midtown flies high under your dynamic leadership. Thank you for your support this Rotary year.

Rtn. Salil Chopra, Joint Secretary is our Rotarian hero of the year. But more than a joint secretary, he is our passionately involved leader of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan of which he has conducted 30 ‘Hand on’ campaigns, physically leading the Rotarians, Rotractors and Interactors and volunteers from the community both in Panchkula and Chandigarh markets. Thus he is also a goodwill ambassador, as on several occasions the Mayor of both cities felt obliged to join us in Swatch Bharat Campaigns. His other passion is imparting social and moral values to children by way of engaging and addressing them in schools. Imagine an average of 2 events per week despite his touring job which keeps him on tour in India and abroad for almost 4 days a week. His total of 155 events is a record. I salute this human Dynamo.

PP Rtn. T.S. Tochi Anand quietly but effectively expressive and a gentle man par excellence only matched by his wife Preeti. He has been a source of strength whenever I called upon him for any help.

PP Rtn. Anil Mehan a spirited Rotarian with a charitable heart ever ready to pitch in for help to club projects for the under privileged.

PP Rtn. D.P. Khandelia a great Past President. He is an oil Shekh and excels in his business. His doors are always open for hosting any event in his premises. We had the pleasure of enjoying his hospitality for a board meeting and also other meeting in this Rotary year. Many thanks to you.

PP Rtn. Harish Sethi a past master in arranging International exchanges, he was responsible for arranging hosting for Rotary team from Alaska. A golf enthusiast. He made meticulous arrangements for the District Golf Tournament hosted by our club. Also helped in organizing Holi Milan dinner in the Golf club premises.

PP Rtn. Subhash Bindra our permanent Chairman Fellowship and catering. All our functions had the flavors of good food served in style, starting with installation ceremony, the 2000th weekly meet, the District Governor’s visit and Holi Milan Dinner at Golf Club (and also the Valedictory function). All had touch of class because of the skills of PP Subhash. To mention his other professional expertise not only the weekly club bulletins but also the special club souvenir was all delivered on time.

PP Rtn. Col. A.J.S. Gill though he could not join us due to health reasons he has sent his best wishes. He is a perpetual supporter of Rotary Foundation by being a Paul Harris Society member besides supporting the club projects from time to time, we wish him and Herpreeti ji good health and togetherness.

PP Rtn. Dr. Kesho Ram Gupta we recognize him for supporting the club bulletin and also the club souvenir to raise funds for the club projects.

PP Rtn. Dr. Vanita Gupta we recognize her for arranging the blood donation camp in sector 17 plaza, for Rotary’s participation in world no tobacco day and other medical camps of the club. We are also proud that she has been appointed Director Health Services of UT administration. Thank you Vanita for your whole hearted cooperation. We are pleased to have you and Dr. Bhushan ji with us in today’s function.

PP Rtn. Pallav Mukherjee our Quiz Master, who makes the meetings lively and informative. A very willing worker, an architect by profession he made the drawings of our school rooms project instantly.

PP Rtn. R.K. Goyal in spite of his being away from Chandigarh whenever I called him for his advice, he was always available to take time off from his weekends. He was always helpful in construction works of our toilet project at village Makhan Majra and also at school in village Raipur Kalan with his professional expertise.

PP Rtn. Saroj Jhawar founder of our ‘Signature Project’ Aasra Rotary Sarai. The project was inaugurated on 30th June 2009 when she was the club President. She is a great fund raiser and helped me to raise funds this Rotary year also.

PP Rtn. Gurdip S. Deep His untiring efforts towards giving us interesting programmes week after week as chairman programme committee have been much appreciated by all the members of our club. He is also an impressive communicator.

PP Rtn. Prem Anand gave a kick start to our signature project ‘Aasra Rotary Sarai’. I was lucky to be the Director Community Service that Rotary year. PP Prem Anand is very ably handling the Rotary Aasra Sarai Project for the last 7 years. He is also the chairman Microloan Committee this Rotary Year 2015-16 and is instrumental in dispensing Microloans to 15 persons who have been able to start their small business with the help.

PP Rtn. Ritu Singal It is always a pleasure working with you, whenever she is there, she leaves a mark. Very ably she organized the Karva Chauth festival and also games in Diwali Milan event. Sponsored 2 scholarships of the value of Rs. 25000/- each. Also a Paul Harris Society member. We are expecting a cheque from her in the coming few days. Thank you for your support.

Rtn. Col. Dr. V.K. Kapoor is a very dedicated and committed Rotarian. Actively involved in medical camps you do not have to ask him for any donations. He has contributed to almost all the Rotary community service projects of the year. My most sincere thanks to you Dr. Sahib.

Rtn. Suman Gupta is another dedicated member. A retired principal she is running a literacy centre in Panchkula for the benefit of the children of Brick-klin workers helping out about 70 children preparing them single handedly to go back to school. DGE Raman Aneja addressing Chandigarh Midtowners

PDG Shaju Peter introduced DGE Raman Aneja. He also narrated the prediction that R’ann Lovy Peter had made in 2008 when he was the DG, and how true that was that Raman was amongst us as the Chief Guest in his capacity as District Governor 2016-17.

Raman Aneja, a business graduate from Panjab University and an MBA from Delhi was born in a landlord family of village Brass in District Karnal of Haryana on 19th Feb. 1969. His father Mr. Ravinder Aneja is a highly respected citizen in the community who is a philanthropist and has deep concern for the poor and under privileged sections of society. His mother Mrs. Kanta Aneja, a pious soul is the backbone of the family who possesses high spiritual background and has deep impact on her children and grand children.

Raman began his Textile Exports business career in 1991 and achieved an unprecedented height in the world of business in a very short span of time and is now the Chairman & Managing Director of an ISO9001:2008 & SA8000 Great Eastern Group of Industries, a leading export house manufacturer, Importer & Exporter of Home Textile and Technical Textile.

A member of Rotary Club Panipat Midtown since 2003-04, Raman became Club President in 2010-11 and since then has achieved many outstanding awards at the Club, Zone and District level for his meritorious service to the Rotary. He is a Major donor and is loved and respected in Rotary World for his exceptional leadership qualities and organizational capabilities.

Raman is a well read person and has travelled globally. His positive thinking and philanthropist nature has inspired him to work for the downtrodden and less fortunate.

The spirit of Rotary is dominant in family. His two younger brothers are also Rotarians who are excelling in business as well. All his family members are Paul Harris Fellows.

He is happily married to Meenu, a devoted and charming life partner who supports Rotary ideals and takes keen interest in Rotary Service. The couple is blessed with a son and two daughters. Eldest son Siddharth is pursuing Marketing Business Degree from Indiana University, Indianapolis, USA, daughter Sonakshi is in the 3rd year of Business Graduation Course at Singapore Institute of Management, Suhani, the youngest daughter is studying at The Lawrence School Sanawar.

In his address to Chandigarh Midtowners DGE Raman expressed his pleasure to be in our club, and he knows number of our senior Rotarians by their names. He was pleased that he has from our club PP Deepak Sood as Assistant Governor, PP Dr. V.J.S. Vohra as the District Editor, Rtn. Salil Bali as Addl. District Secretary, Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra as Coordinator RILM and District Chair Interact, and above all these PDG Shaju Peter as DRFC, and therefore Chandigarh Midtown will play a significant role during the year. Shaju will serve as DRFC for three years (2016-19), and therefore Raman says Shaju will be a big asset for 3080.

Talking about the one million challenge for TRF, Raman is sure of success because, as he puts it, “We have the will, big heart and God is with us, and given us enough strength to achieve our goals and has enabled us to help the needy. We should thank God that He has made us Rotarians. We are ordinary people but we do lot of extra ordinary work to serve the community.”

Congratulating President Kanan Diwan, DGE Raman said, “This gracious lady has done remarkable work for Rotary, and has raised the bar and set a challenge for Amarjit, who will set a challenge for the next President!” In spite of her ill health both Kanan ji and PDG Yoginder Diwan are energetic couple.

Raman hoped that the world would become polio free in 2016-17. This will be a year of celebration as Rotary Foundation completes 100 years.
