Fifth grade students experienced theirfirst W izards of W rightW izards of W right program lastweek. Through the WPAFB EducationalOutreach Program, the kidsparticipated in a densitydemonstration. Students explored avariety of materials and learned howdensity, mass, and volume arerelated.

class did a breakout gamebreakout game basedon the "If You Take a Mouse to School"story. They successfully solved all theclues and unlocked the box with fourminutes left. They did a great jobworking together.

Cox Elementary School is very excitedto have Ms. Mary Gene Baldwincoming to school each Wednesday.She reads to the fi rst gradereads to the fi rst gradestudentsstudents individually. The studentslove reading books to her. She is amember of the Wilberforce, Ohiochapter of LINKS Inc. She has retiredfrom Wright Patterson Air Force Baseand was a college instructor ofmathematics in the United States andoverseas for many years. The first gradeteachers appreciate all the time she isspending at Cox Elementary. She istruly an asset to the school.

Mrs. Vogelsong's Kindergarten classcelebrated Johnny Appleseed'scelebrated Johnny Appleseed'sbirthdaybirthday by making butterscotchapple pies. They learned aboutJohnny through books andmovies. Then they showed what theylearned by making a fact booktogether and making a page in theclass book that will be shared withfamilies.

Each morning, Cox students begin theirday with a l ive broadcast from thelive broadcast from theCox 95 news teamCox 95 news team, led by BrookeLemaster and Erin O'Brien. This year atCox , the Cox 95 News team had arecord number of students try out -more than 80 students! The Cox 95News broadcasts each morning fromthe Art room.

Last week McKinley held their Book Fair and Family NightBook Fair and Family Night . There were crafts,basket raffles, popcorn, and of course ... loads of books!

annual Spirit W alk-a-Thon FundraiserSpirit W alk-a-Thon Fundraiser.Students collected more than $7,000 duringthe fundraising effort for their PTO to use insupporting different activities such as culturalenrichment programs, positive behaviorrewards, positive recognition awards andgrade level field trips. The Shawnee PTO wasinstrumental in finding and supporting afundraising idea that involved the entireschool and encouraged the students to behealthy. Approximately 470 Shawneestudents created banners, cheers, and worecostumes based on their class theme. Parents,grandparents, and community members lined

the path and encouraged students with high fives and smiles. Police officers,EMTs, and firefighters helped with support by clearing intersections and providingadditional encouragement.

The mile-and-a-half trek ended with cheers and chants as students encouragedtheir classmates to the finish line. The students also loved being on the Channel 7News with Gabrielle Enright, who highlighted their enthusiastic efforts.

Last week students returned toWestminster Presbyterian Church to seethe results of their spring planting efforts- they harvested their pumpkins!harvested their pumpkins!Students were able to see howseedlings turned into plants andproduced "fruit" in the form ofpumpkins. It was delightful to have thechurch partner with Tecumseh for thisopportunity and to send the "fruits ofour labor" home with the students. Thepartnership wouldn't have been

possible without the efforts of the Pastorand the congregants who taught thestudents so much about the plantingprocess.

As a reward for winning a PAX gameduring class, fifth grade students had alittle fun making paper airp lanesmaking paper airp lanesand flying them for "Granny's WackyPrize."

Mrs. Busch's class read the book WhyDucks Don’t Get Wet and mademadeducksducks to see how oil and water do notmix. Ducks have special oil on theirbodies to keep them dry.

WA RNER MIDDLEWA RNER MIDDLE

The sixth grade students were treatedto a W EB Dance and SocialW EB Dance and Social lastFriday afternoon. WEB (WhereEverybody Belongs) is the program atWarner run by Karen Nolen and DanaMcClain that guides and teacheseighth grade student leaders how toestablish an effective transitionprogram from elementary school tomiddle school for incoming sixthgraders. Throughout the year, sixthgrade students are supported with amyriad of events andactivities. Students truly enjoyed givingup exploratory classes for theopportunity to end the week with funand interaction with their eighth gradeleaders.

The W right Stuff RocketeersW right Stuff Rocketeers andRon Stauffer from the Air ForceResearch Laboratory visited WarnerMiddle School to educate Flight &Space Class students about rocketryand to demonstrate rocket launches.Check out the video of the rocketlaunch on our Instagram page.WPAFB's Education Outreach programprovides many exciting, hands-onSTEM-based learning opportunities forXenia students in grades K-12.

On September 28, seven Xenia HighSchool students drove their tractorsdrove their tractorsto schoolto school from the Greene CountyFairgrounds. The annual event bringsawareness to tractor safety, recognizesarea farmers for their dedication tofarming, and promotes the highschool's FFA program.

Mr. Richards taught a “Pinch PotPinch Pot”lesson last week. Ceramics studentshave learned the stages of clay, thehistory of a pinch pot, and the propertechniques used to make a pinchpot. Students will finish the pinch potsthis week by glazing. Final products willbe graded on form, consistency in claythickness, building requirements, andglazing technique.
