3. SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS ◦ Performance Based Assessment (PBA) and

4. Entire Assessment is online – on a computer

5. Students must use keyboard to type, use Mouse to click, scroll, drag & drop, use headphones.

Paulsboro District:

◦ Has been assessing using MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) to get students to have minimal comfort using a computer for testing – district wide – since 2010.

◦ Has included Compass Learning Odyssey, Digits and EnVisions (our Math programs in 3rd through 8th) are all technology based instructional programs to assist students with ease of testing.

◦ Has District Wide meetings with parents to keep them informed on all that is happening.

The MAIN thing that we have done to prepare students for this is to insure that ALL Math and ELA curriculum and instruction is aligned to the COMMON CORE STANDARDS.

How Will PARCC Be Different?

For students:

Test quality will mirrorhigh-quality coursework

Is computer-based, interactive, engaging

Measures the skills and knowledge students need to succeed in college and careers

Produces timely information, allowing teachers to tailor instruction to students’ needs

Includes embedded supports for English language learners, students with disabilities

Summative Assessment Components:◦ Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) administered as close to the

end of the school year as possible. The ELA/literacy PBA will focus on writing effectively when analyzing text. The mathematics PBA will focus on applying skills, concepts, and understandings to solve multi-step problems requiring abstract reasoning, precision, perseverance, and strategic use of tools

◦ End-of-Year Assessment (EOY) administered after approx. 90% of the school year. The ELA/literacy EOY will focus on reading comprehension. The math EOY will be comprised of innovative, machine-scorable items
