What are pre-teens reading?
What is Urban Fiction?
Urban Fiction is a popular yet controversial genre especially among young African-American and Hispanic patrons. The genre features characters living in large urban cities that are usually involved in drug dealing, gang violence, and/or prostitution.

Why Should Library Collections Contain Some Urban Fiction Titles?

Students should be exposed to a variety of genres.
Many students can relate to the stories.
Attractive reads for reluctant readers.
Urban Fiction can reach a population of students that historically have not been serviced in the library.
