Diversity & Inclusion Plan Introduction The Embry-Riddle Athletics Department embraces our University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is fully committed to being a global leader in diversity and inclusion in higher education. We continually strive to recognize, respect and celebrate the differences and cultural identities among individuals as we recruit, support, and embrace our diverse community. We work to provide a safe environment where self-expression is welcome. We strive to create a campus climate free of discrimination so that networks, partnerships and cultural competency continue to be fostered through leadership, integrity, care and respect. ERAU Athletics also fully supports the NCAA’s vision of Inclusion by providing equal opportunities to all student-athletes and personnel. The goal of ERAU Athletics is to foster a culture where student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans are valued for their contributions and are motivated to participate to their fullest potential. Collegiate athletics provides an opportunity for students to compete with and against others who come from different races, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities and social classes; all of whom share the common goal of achieving athletic excellence. ERAU Athletics is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse group of students and staff, nurturing and celebrating different and unique perspectives, while valuing the ideas and efforts of individual contributors in a safe and non-judgmental environment. We promote civility and respect, so that our stakeholders will enjoy a meaningful experience. Plan Overview Embry-Riddle Athletics has established a goal to partner with other campus entities and personnel to broaden its approach to diversity and inclusion. The initial Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Plan was developed in 2014-15 by a collaborative effort between ERAU Athletics and the campus Office of Diversity & Inclusion. The Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee was formed in the fall of 2015 and has been meeting regularly for the past two years. Consisting of representatives from the faculty, staff and Athletics department, this group has been charged with continuing to help ERAU Athletics develop policies and procedures related to diversity and inclusion as well as move forward all related efforts. Input from a variety of perspectives has been a valuable asset to the process of continually updating the Diversity & Inclusion Plan.
