Bonjour Division 27, Welcome to the Sunday of summer! This is finally the last month of vacation, and I hope that it was well spent. A special thanks to all of you who attended Seattle Rally! I hope that it was truly “A Magical World of Service” and that you enjoyed meeting new people, as well as attending workshops taught by the District Board. If you did not attend any officer training as of now, please let me know and we’ll be able to work something out! Also, a HUGE shoutout to Inglemoor High School for sending clubbers to Seattle Rally, as well as getting into the talent show! Dorothy Mukasa and Sue Choe (also known as “DoSo”) performed on stage and it was definitely an unforgettable performance! Another thing coming with the start of school is the beginning of the college app season! Seniors, please stay sane during this time while you go through your applications. Although I should be telling you that your duties to Key Club are still important during this time, I too am an incoming senior and I understand how stressful this time can be. Just be sure to communicate with me, and we’ll get things figured out. Be sure to dedicate some quality time to yourself to avoid getting burned out before senioritis season in the spring! If you would like for me to come help you advertise Key Club at your school’s club fair (or any equivalent) please let me know so that I can schedule it in! I would love to help your club get its name out there! Please be sure to seek out help whenever you need it!

Hi everyone! I’m Ethan Tsai and I am going to be a senior next year at Woodinville High School! I first joined Key Club in my sophomore year as a member and had a lot of fun getting to know the officers and the purpose of Key Club. The following year, I became the club secretary and tried to get more involved in Key Club. I realized how close the Key Club family is at this year’s DCON and got to meet some amazing Lieutenant Governors from other divisions. It was inspiring to see how many people cared about service all in one place and I truly enjoyed the experience. As a club officer, I can already feel some of the pressure of leading one club and I can only imagine what it’s like trying to handle all the clubs in our division. As Divisional Executive Assistant, I’d really like to help relieve some of the stress from our Lieutenant Governor, Josh. I hope to get even more involved in Key Club this year (especially at WHS) and I am looking forward to my last year of high school and DCON 2015! Ethan Tsai Executive Assistant, Division 27

Hey Key Clubbers, Summer is finally here, and I hope all of you are kicking back and relaxing after a long school year’s end. All of you have put so much effort into the last school year, from taking AP and IB classes, to being in multiple clubs and activities, to all of your endless community service that you have done. To the seniors a special congrats on finishing high school, you guys have worked especially hard. I hope the memories of the last years in high school will carry with all of you, and I hope you know all the service you have done in the last few years, has been changing the lives of others. To the club members, remember that when the sun is out, it is a great chance to grab a few friends and serve, and that service doesn’t end when the school year does! Continue all of your hard work because when you give a little love, you get a little love back, when you give a lot of love, you get a lot of love back. The amount of effort you put into serving is the amount you get back, from seeing a smile from the kid who just got a card at children’s hospital, to packing a meal for a hungry family who lives in the neighborhood. The more and more you serve, the more and more you will see the community being affected, by the love and service you give to it. Remember that when you serve, give your whole heart to the project or fundraiser, and the results will soar. You are the change, with every good deed you do, no matter how big or small, it helps the people around you. From right around the corner to half way around the world, you guys are truly admirable. You give more than anyone could ever see or know, you guys don’t wish that you had the power to change the world, you know you have the power to change the world. Thank you all so much, and just remember, what you share with the world is what the world keeps of you.

Hey Key Clubbers! My name is Dorothy Wang and I am a senior from Division 64 – the new home of the Dinosaurs! I cannot express how honored and humbled I am to be able to serve the Pacific Northwest as the District Projects Committee Chair. I will commit this next year to making the Eliminate Project as successful as it can be for our district, and I hope you will, too! After raising over $80,000 for the Eliminate Project over the course of the last year alone, it won’t be easy for us to top our past accomplishments. However, I have complete faith in our district to achieve that and so much more for the campaign’s last year! As some of you may know, our district goal for this upcoming year is set at $50,000, but why not raise more? The district hopes to easily surpass that amount and save as many lives as we possibly can. The Eliminate Project needs YOU and the support of your Key Clubs and communities in order to reach our $110 million goal for Kiwanis International and to eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus by 2015. Time is running out, so it is crucial that we go all out and do all that we can for the project in its final stage! Although the Eliminate Project has been our district project for over a year, we cannot afford to loosen the reins and wait for others to help us reach that goal. The amazing thing about the Eliminate Project is that even a little bit of change can have such a tangible and substantial impact on the lives of mothers and children throughout the world. Through a joint effort, I believe that MNT can and will be eliminated by 2015! Raise awareness throughout your communities and fundraise! Whether you and your club organize a movie night, Dance to Elimin8, Skate to Elimin8, potluck, or even a food sale, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS! It’s really amazing how far a little bit of effort, enthusiasm, and shameless promotion can go – especially when we’re talking about passionate and serving Key Clubbers! If you ever need help with a fundraiser or have any questions regarding the Eliminate Project, please do not hesitate to contact me through email or Facebook (let’s be friends! Jϑ). As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Never get discouraged, because even $1.80 could change a mother’s and child’s life forever. Hello, Key Clubbers! My name is Maria Palazzolo, and I am so thankful to be your 2014-2015 Key Club International President! I was elected at the International Convention in Anaheim, California, about a month ago. It is a privilege to serve you and the rest of our 267,000 members. As Key Clubbers, we have a unique perspective of the world. We, as teenagers, get to make lasting impacts within our communities and throughout the world. I find it absolutely amazing that our organization is made of so many selfless individuals with one mission: to positively change the world. As your International President, one of my main goals is to make Key Club International more accessible to provide more ideas and opportunities to make your club the best it can be. This can be done through: Webinars

We will also be promoting the Eliminate Project, which is the Kiwanis family’s campaign to raise $110 million by the end of 2015 to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the planet. It nears its completion at the end of the year, and we need to work tirelessly to meet our goal. I will work with our International Vice President, Kevin Zhang, and our eleven International Trustees to meet these goals to make this year a productive one for our organization. I hope to see all of you at our International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, next summer! Imagine 2,000 people who are just as focused on helping others as you are. From your International Trustee

Hey, Pacific-Northwest! My name is Tashrima Hossain, and I’d like to introduce myself as the new International Trustee for your district. It is such an honor to be in your service, primarily by ensuring that your voices are heard at the international level during the upcoming year. I’m excited to join the PNW moose; I’ve already received so much enthusiasm from the Board, I’ve heard many great things about PNW, and I can’t wait to see all the great achievements your district has in store. To let you know a little about myself, I am from Cypress, Texas, which is a suburban area adjacent to the Houston border. In addition to Key Club, I devote much of my time to debate and Student Council— which often leaves with very little time for sleep! As a result, I’m a bit of a grandma, and I like spending much of my free time sleeping, reading, or just hanging out with friends. For those of you who would like to know more about my duties as International Trustee, I have a few basic responsibilities: attending International Board meetings, participating in a maximum of two district visits, and acting as a representative of the international level of Key Club. In addition, Governor Lisa and I completed a Governor-Trustee agreement, which identified the main expectations Lisa has of me, as your district’s Trustee; many of said goals revolve around constant communication and building positive Sister District relations—all of which are means to ensure that I effectively represent your views on the international level. Additionally, I serve with Jenalee Beazley, Rip Livingston, Liz Moore, and Nicole Lema on the Growth and Communications Committee. There, we predominantly focus on fostering a connection between advisors and Kiwanis clubs, making Key Club a school-wide name, creating a “cool factor” for Key Club, empowering local clubs to publicize their work, creating a strategic growth plan for KCI, and creating an annual club census. We already have a very specific set of goals and action steps for the first quarter; I plan to update you all with any progress in that arena. During my term, I will stay committed to the goals I campaigned with, but more than that, I intend to actively serve as a resource for you all. If you have questions about amendments, elections, service, or general Key Club knowledge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. SEATTLE RALLY 2014 a magical world of service

On Monday, August 4th, over 340 Key Clubbers from around the Seattle area gathered together to attend workshops, meet new people, and of course, create a magical world of service. By pooling in the money from registration, the miracle minute, and merchandise sales, Seattle Rally 2014 raised $2598.43 for the Eliminate Project! This translates into saving 1443 lives and families! Nice work Seattle area Key Club! In addition we also got to see members from our division perform in the talent show! Awesome job Dorothy Mukasa and Sue Choe from Inglemoor High School for their fabulous performance!

Key Leader is a service leadership program created by Kiwanis. At Key Leader, you not only get to develop your leadership skills, but you also get to meet teenagers from

all sorts of different backgrounds

Every nine minutes, a baby dies from tetanus. That short lifetime is marked by pain—with an extreme sensitivity to light, sound or contact that prevents even a mother’s touch. More than 100 million women and their future babies must be protected. This will cost roughly US$240 million. Already, millions have been committed. But a funding gap remains. Our Global Campaign for Children will raise US$110 million by 2015—filling that gap and making Kiwanis the world’s largest single donor to the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus.

This is our chance to change the world.

HOW THE FUNDS HELPWith governments and partners, UNICEF has established an action plan. In places like Cambodia, that plan has achieved proven results. The US$110 million we raise through The Eliminate Project will support:

Immunization of women of reproductive age. The vaccines will be administered through three properly spaced rounds of supplemental immunization activities in districts where mothers and newborns have limited access to prenatal care, immunization and skilled birth attendants.

Promotion of clean delivery practices. The number of safe and healthy births will increase.

Immunization of pregnant women. The tetanus toxoid or tetanus and diphtheria vaccine will be promoted as part of a package of interventions delivered during prenatal care visits or through outreach services.

Sustainability through education. Funds will help maintain educational initiatives such as clean birthing practices established during The Eliminate Project.

Kiwanian education and organizational enhancement. A small portion of funds raised will help educate the Kiwanis family on maternal and neonatal issues and help create Kiwanis-family service projects that support The Eliminate Project.

In 1994, Kiwanis joined UNICEF and partners as the organization began its worldwide service project to virtually eliminate iodine deficiency disorders, the world’s leading cause of preventable mental disability. Kiwanians raised and leveraged nearly US$105 million for salt iodization, testing and monitoring, and for community outreach and education in developing nations. These funds are at work today in more than 103 countries, where nearly 80 million children will be born free of IDD this year. Funds from The Eliminate Project will have a similar impact.
