Happy February Monsters! <3

I hope the second month of 2014 has been treating you all well, as that is what you all deserve! As we progress deeper into the new year, we near the end of the 2013-14 Key Club term. I hope you have enjoyed these past 11 months as much as I have. <3 As most club elections have been com-pleted and the 2014-15 Lt. Governor, Emily Nguyen, has been elected, please be sure to not only congratulate your officer elects, but to thank all of your candidates! To take the initiative to run or apply for office is truly commendable, and there are still only MORE leader-ship opportunities for each and every one of you. As I have said before – one does not require a position or title to make a difference. Keep in mind that although we are near-ing the completion of the term, there are still so many events to be looking forward to! Here are just a few:

February DCM + Caring with Crafts – February 28th

Monterey Trail’s Annual Pag-eant & Talent Show – March 1st

Pleasant Grove’s Annual Awake-a-Thon – March 14th -15th

Kiwanis March In March – March 22nd

DISTRICT CONVENTION – April 11th – 13th

Keep your eye out for details on our Banquet, which will be held in April!

I hope to see you all at these upcoming events! Work hard in school, sports, and keep the service strong – we’re almost there! Love,

LTG Emily

Hello Seven South!

This month was quite a quick month. This month I attended Conclave, which was pretty intense. I also learned a lot from it though, it helped me see how much courage it takes to run for such a position. Props to all the candidates! Well, that's all I had to say. I hope to see all of you at the next DCM on February 28th! Keep roaring on!

Hey D7 South!

Wow… this issue is my 9th issue…. Time sure flies by fast, doesn’t it 7 South? This month of February has been HUGE. Not necessarily because of my abounding social life (which isn’t all that huge anyways), but because it’s finally DCON and Recognition Season! I hope all of you BEEautiful members applied for recognition! I know a lot of our officers have, and I wouldn’t be sur-prised to see some of you guys on that stage in Sacramento in April! I hope all of you have been safe and sound this month, enjoying the abnor-mally hot weather (Olaf would like that, if ya know what I mean), and the festivi-ties of Single Awareness Day… err… I mean Valentine’s Day! Remember, we have our next DCM on February 28th at Laguna Creek High School’s Black Box Theater! We have more information for you later in this issue.

This is officially my second-to-last issue, and I’m very sad to see my term go. It’s been full of great memories, great people, and memories that I’ll never forget with my fellow Orange Monsters. I hope to see you all at our next DCM and beyond! Stay swaggy 7 South! Y’all are the best division I could ever serve! L-O-V-E I love my D-I-V! -- In service and friendship,

Hello all!!

How are you doing? I am doing fine and dandy! February has been one of the most amazing months for me! My service project "Caring With Crafts" was approved by Elk Grove Ki-wanis for funding, and the leadership team along with Elk Grove Kiwanis President, Monica Pompei, will present the project to students at our upcoming DCM. Basically, we will be making hats for the Kiwanis Family House and we will also try to doante them to hospitals for newborns/children/cancer pa-tients!

It is a fun event and I am hoping that we will have a great turnout at the DCM and that the project will continue for years to come! So don't miss out on our new service project, it's going to be one of the best ones yet! --

Graduating this year?

Join Circle K

International!

Circle K International (CKI) is the premier collegiate and university community service, leadership development, and friendship organization in the world. CKI, like Key Club, is the largest student-led collegiate service organization WORLD WIDE.

Circle K, just like Key Club, is a branch of the Ki-wanis Family, but, instead of focusing more towards high school students, Circle K International shifts fo-cus to the young adults attending universities and col-leges across the globe. With the same parent organiza-tion, the bridging between CKI and Key Club is strong and smooth.

First, do some research to discover if your college or university has a Circle K club on your campus. If there is, you can join! Then, you can get out there and get involved!

Conclave 2014 Recap It has passed upon us once more… Conclave 2014 is now in the books! Just in case you weren’t there, here’s a little rundown: It started around 7 pm. 2013-2014 Lieutenant Governor Emily Mu called the event to order. Each of the candidates gave their speeches one by one, making excellent points and providing ex-traordinary plans for our division in our next Key Club term. Once the speeches were finished, our delegates (officers from our clubs around the division) and members in the audience pounded our candidates with questions, varying from seri-ous questions about his or her goals to funny, more light-hearted questions that caught the at-tention of our audience. The first votes were casted for who would pass on to the Nomination Conference, where only two delegates remain and they duke it out for their crown: LTG Elect for the 2014-2015. After much debate, Andrew Wei and Emily Nguyen, both from Laguna Creek Key Club, were nomi-nated to continue their speeches and caucuses for the final battle for our Division 7 South LTG Elect. After more speeches, caucuses, and very impres-sive “:Impress Me!” demonstrations, both of the musical variety that entertained all who attended, the final votes were cast by our delegates. Who came out on top? Emily Nguyen from La-guna Creek Key Club! Check out the next page for an introduction to your Mama Monster for the 2014-2015 Key Club term! If you did not make it to Conclave this year, make sure to attend next year! Delegate or not, your questions and opinions matter. History is being make, and we’d like you all to be a part of it!

Hello you scary monsters!

Indeed – Conclave was incredibly scary. I’m sure those of you who were there could taste the nervousness radiating off of the other candidates and I. Throughout the entire Conclave process however, the Lt. Governor candidates hidden away in the back together were amaz-ingly one ohana, in spite of any competitive feelings there may have been. We supported each other before and dur-ing Conclave with our Service Agreements, speeches, and literatures, and truly wanted each other to do our best – and we did. I am incredibly honored that I was elected as your next Lieutenant Governor and I will never forget the people who have supported me and the candidates who I became closer to because of it.

From now to District Convention, I will be training on how to serve you all to the best of my ability and also how to not BEE awkward! I am looking forward to getting to know more monsters in Key Club and embracing one of our core values, inclusiveness. Remember: my name is Emily and I like warm hugs (and summer)! As monsters, we are going to work together as one ohana to truly make a difference in our community. As Jennifer Dalanan once told me, “Division 7 South is going to take over CNH dis-trict.” No matter what happened or what will happen, we all will lead this division with spirit and service! I cannot wait to see what this new term has in store for us.

I’m at a loss of words, where to begin. . Where to begin. Well, my term isn’t over yet! (I’m in denial, I’ll be over sooner than I know it and then I’ll be lost.) But seri-ously, my 2013-2014 term as the Club Secretary for Franklin High School Key Club has been a blast. I truly see despair and sadness in a alternative universe, where Diego Belloso doesn’t join Key Club his early Sophomore year. How dreadful it seems, I would be hopeless and utterly lost. My term has truly been the best gift, and for that, I humbly thank Key Club International. But not just Key Club, my memories, the peo-ple I’ve helped time and time again, my Kiwanis family that I’ve grown to admire and love, I all humbly thank everything and eve-ryone. I remember at the start of my term, (IP Secretary, Lauren Yee) was telling me and two other Sec-retary running candidates about the duties of a club secretary. It was almost as if I had to solve a logarithm to figure out what she was trying to say. With all three of us silent as a mouse, we were hopelessly confused but rarely un-derstood the concept of few things. It wasn’t that she ex-plained it bad or anything, she

did great! She even brought her laptop and everything, it was just that we didn’t put enough effort to try and understand at the same. After I earned my position, it was time to make an impact into Key Club. I introduced diver-sity and new members, new ser-vice events, new partner organiza-tions, and many other things. I attended an endless amount of service events during my term, each one teaching me a big les-son. . a memorable moral to each story, I had become much more wise during my three years in Key Club. There was much to do in only a short time, I made haste of my time and began to do every-thing that I vowed and planned to do in order to give my fellow members more opportunities, ad-vantages, etc. I always asked ques-tions even as an officer when I didn’t know something, I’ve fig-ured that there’s no reason to act like I knew everything. But even-tually, I gained even more new-found knowledge and continued to excel. I update my MRF very frequently, ready to send to Web Tech (Sahil Sidhu) for our club hour’s updates, etc. It was a very good feeling, to improve and fur-ther improve in order to make efficiency way better. To this day, a saying still echoes in my head,

why not choose Key Club? Key Club has impacted my life for the better and created many oppor-tunism for me and other people, it’s been a wonderful term so far. I’ll miss everyone once’s its over.

This year, I attended my first and last Conclave for Division 7 South. Because it was my first year, I was incredibly nervous, and I wasn’t even one of the ones making a speech! I attended Conclave as a delegate along with my fellow board member Sharon Hsu to represent Franklin High School. We knew that it was incredibly important to vote for the candidate we

believed would be the next best Lieutenant Governor for Division 7 South. I mean, just with a checkmark, we could change someone’s future. It was incredibly rewarding to hear the candidates’ speeches and all of their ideas for next year. When it came time to choose from the final two candidates, all the delegates came together and dis-cussed at length who would be the next Lieutenant Governor. Both candidates

were exceptional and each had their own uniqueness that could make a great leader. However, we could only choose one, and in the end Emily Nguyen won. Unfortunately, as I am a senior this year, I won’t be here to see Emily’s work but I know she will leave an incredible legacy for Division 7 South.

Pleasant Grove Key Club recently changed Kiwanis advisors, and we were fortunate enough to meet Dr. Anthony. Her humble and warm attitude toward our club, charities, and members can bring a smile to anyone’s face. Every weekly meeting, Dr. Anthony comes to support our club and every time, she comes with a genuine smile and gentle personality, ready to attentively listen to our agendas and announcements. She interacts with our members, always commending us on

our hard work for Kiwanis, for fundraising money for various charities, and tells me with excitement she secretly loves it whenever we are successful so she can praise us to her other Kiwanis associates. She also brought with her, many good ideas. Our club recently started collecting weekly donations, which we called “Happy/Sad Quarters”, adopted from the Kiwanis meetings that Dr. Anthony attends. Members drop in coins and say why they were happy or

sad. Dr. Anthony always voluntarily donates money and declares why she is happy. Her cheerful personality and positivity is truly inspiring to the listening members. Dr. Anthony is an intermediary between us and Kiwanis and she is an advocate of our club’s success because of her constant support of our club. It truly is an honor to have her as our Kiwanis club advisor.

It was a chilly morning on the 25 day of January. As we turned into the parking lot we read a sign that said, "Kiwanis Family House." This event was dedicated on beautifying this place located in downtown Sacramento. After key club members gathered together, we were given various duties that involved digging dirt, picking weeds, watering plants, and etc. I was given the task of cleaning the front sign

which turned out to be harder than expected. Paired up with Kimmie Bacon, we scrubbed for 2 1/2 hours until the words "Kiwanis Family House" could be read clearly. After we were done, we wiped down the inside of the home. That day I gained the knowledge of how to properly make a bed and the amount of sheets and blankets there were in a bed. Others went to wipe down the playground in the back. When I joined them we played on the

carousel and were spun until we were so dizzy we could not walk straight.. Throughout the day I gained a lot of useful knowledge and enjoyed helping out at the Kiwanis Family House. What I also enjoyed was playing on the carousel because I felt like I was a child once again. It was a very fun day and I enjoyed every minute of it.
