BIAXPLEN Insulation and composite materials

HISTORY

The enterprise traces its history since 1961, from construction of the plant producing bitumen-rubber insulation for pipelines

anticorrosion protection in Novokuybyshevsk - "BRIZOL" plant. It was the first name of the current "BIAXPLEN". Birth of

"BRIZOL" was closely related to construction of the famous oil pipeline "DRUZHBA" as well. Over five thousand kilometres of

pipes of all three stages of oil pipeline were insulated with products of Novokuybyshevsk enterprise.

In 1976 the enterprise was renamed as "Insulation material plant", in 1987 — as Production Association "PIPEINSULATION".

From the very beginning the plant has developed according to demands that were dictated by the oil and gas industry devel-

opment. New types of insulation materials were continuously tested at the enterprise. North fields development gave a stimu-

lus for production of freezeproof PVC-tape, and since 1991 the main type of products of the plant has become insulation sys-

tem "POLYLEN" — insulation material, equal to world analogues in terms of technical and performance characteristics.

In 2004 the plant was included into Corporate group "NOVATEK" - major, independent (private) gas-producing company of

Russia, and started to produce new types of materials, incl. heat shrinkable sleeves to insulate pipelines welding joints.

In 2010 the enterprise was included into "SIBUR Holding" and named as "BIAXPLEN NK". Since January, 2013, the company is

called Novokuybyshevsk branch "BIAXPLEN".

Due to including into SIBUR, the plant has received its own raw materials base, which enables to operate consistently, dynam-

ically develop and thus be one of the leader of the industry.

Currently, following the traditions of the plant, Novokuybyshevsk branch "BIAXPLEN" continues to develop, and up to date has

a wide range of output product - from "cold application" tapes to heat shrinking materials, designed for "hot application", thus

covering a wide range of protective structures of anticorrosion materials both as a single set and in combinations.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

"POLYLEN" tape - a four-layer tape on the basis of thermally stabilized polyethylene and butyl rubber based adhesive. It is

intended to be used as the inner layer in protective structures of pipelines on the basis of polymeric tapes "POLYLEN" in con-

junction with the primer "NC-50" and outer protective wrapper "POLYLEN-OB". It used as a "cold application" cover, intended

for corrosion protection of outer surfaces of steel trunk, field and technological pipelines and their taps in the course of con-

struction and repair at operating temperatures of up to + 40°C

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Unique production technology.

Coatings on the basis of materials of "POLYLEN" series are highly stable and have unchanged protective properties, related to

corrosion. One of the main features of "POLYLEN" series is connected with their structure. They represent a four-layer materi-

al with a gradual transition between layers from polyethylene to butyl rubber.

Tapes and covers "POLYLEN" are produced by means of the co-extrusion calendering technology, in which layers of different

structure are welded together in a molten state. Stratified thickness transition from one polymer to another provides an opti-

mum combination of properties and incompatibility of components ensures stability of the structure and properties of each

layer within the layer, on its borders and for the composite material as a whole. "POLYLEN" is designed for operation in the

range from -60°C to +40°C, since the coating does not degrade in this temperature range. It has high resistance towards im-

pact, compression and abrasion. The coating on the basis of "POLYLEN" has high mechanical resistance, it is not easy to be

damaged during handling and storage. The coating on the basis of "POLYLEN" is resistant to the chemical effect of acids, alka-

lis and ensures long-term underground operation even in highly saline soils. It provides high dielectric properties and has high

adhesion and bonding to steel and polyethylene.

Main advantages. An application technology is the most accessible and productive, it does not require highly qualified personnel, bulky equip-

ment for preparation and application of bituminous mastics and contributes to high performance of a removable step of the

insulation and laying tower. Furthermore, polymeric tapes are non-toxic and the process of their application is safe in relation

to the operating personnel and environment. They do not require application of the open flame, special equipment for curing.

The quality of a coating can be easily controlled.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Primer “NK-50” represents rubber and resin compound dissolved in gasoline. It is intended for application as underlayer for

polymeric tape materials for corrosion protection of the underground main steel oil pipelines and petroleum products pipe-

lines and their branches with diameter up to 1420 mm inclusively, with operating temperature up to +50°С during their con-

struction and overhaul. The Primer is used in insulation coating structures complete with “POLYLEN” polyethylene tape and

“POLYLEN-OB” polyethylene wrapping.

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Unique production technology.

Composition of Primer NK-50 is selected so that the obtained liquid adhesion composition would fit perfectly for the manual

and mechanized application on uneven, restored, and cleaned pipe surfaces.

Main advantages.

Provides for excellent adhesion, cathodic disbonding resistance, long-term bond of POLYLEN coating system, long-term corro-

sion protection, conforms with the majority of local and national standards.

Material preparation for application

Before application on a pipe, mix thoroughly up to total extinction of possible sediment. If Primer viscosity change is neces-

sary, it is permitted to dilute it with Nefras S-2-80/120 gasoline solvent prior to application, injecting the gasoline for no more

than 10% of diluted volume. Dilution with ethylated gasoline is not permitted because it worsens adhesion properties.

protection" - No. 10, 17

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The insulation system set on the basis of ''cold applied' tapes consists of:

• adhesive Primer forming smooth uniform contact surface;

• POLYLEN-T polyethylene tape with corrosion protection function, and POLYLEN-OB-T wrapping for mechanical protec-

tion of the coating.

The set is intended for "cold applied" coating used for corrosion protection of the outer surface of steel pipelines and their

branches during construction and overhaul at operating temperature up to +60°С (+80°С for short time). Insulation coating shall be applied at field using mechanized machinery complexes. Also, this procedure can be performed

manually.

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Unique production technology.

The tape and the wrapping are the multilayer materials fabricated using co-extrusive-calender method on the basis of thermo-

stabilized polyethylene, duplicated with adhesion layer on the basis of butyl rubber. The Primer is a rubber and resin inhibited

compound dissolved in the organic solvents.

POLYLEN-T coating is persistent to chemical effect of acids and alkalis, and provides long-term underground service even in

strongly salted grounds. It has high dielectric properties, and provides high adhesion with steel as well. Special selection of all

components for POLYLEN-T set ensures increased shear resistance at operating temperatures up to 80°С.

Main advantages.

Application technology is the most approachable and productive, and does not require high qualification of maintenance per-

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

LITKOR-NK polymeric-bituminous tape is the self-adhesive roll material, fabricated by polymeric-bituminous mastic application to polymeric basic film protected with anti-adhesive film. Protective coating is cold applied to the polymeric-bituminous prim-ing by the cold manually or using mechanized means. As protective wrapping, the polyethylene wrapping “POLYLEN-OB 40- OB-63” is used in the coating. Depending on the climatic zone of use, materials of two types are fabricated:

"Z" (winter) for application at ambient temperature of -20...+10°С; and

"L" (summer) for application at ambient temperature of -5...+40°С;

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Unique production technology.

During fabrication of polymeric-bituminous tapes the universal equipment is used, that allows presetting the different physical parameters of the fabricated material at the manufacturing stage, due to selection of the polymeric basic tapes. PVC tapes, as well as polyethylene ones, are used as the polymeric basic tapes.

Main advantages.

• Processability of the material application, especially in case of application in winter and off-season, which ensures high performance of insulation works;

• Possibility to apply the coating onto insufficiently prepared surface, with no requirement for the pipe heating before coating;

• High plasticity of the mastic layer, which allows filling all pipe surface irregularities avoiding presence of "hip"effect in the weld zone.

• High elasticity and biostability;

• High dielectric properties;

• High tear strength even at high loads;

Durability and increased wear resistance.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

NOVORAD-ST heat shrinkable sleeves are used for external corrosion protection of welded joints of pipelines with factory pol-

yethylene coating intended for construction, reconstruction and overhaul of the underground and underwater gas pipelines

laid using trench method with soil backfilling, with diameter up to 1420 mm (incl.) and operation temperature -20...+60°С. The

sleeve is the heat shrink tape with hot-melt adhesive applied. For application in the set with adhesive locking plate NOVORAD-

ZK and epoxy primer NOVEP. Application of this complex forms a unified corrosion protective system with the similar proper-

ties as the basic pipe body.

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Unique production technology.

The sleeve is fabricated using the process equipment that allows strict maintaining the preset parameters of sleeve base

across entire surface of the material. The electron accelerator for the base radiation treatment provides the uniform expo-

sure, and longitudinal orientation unit ensures high quality stretching. Due to combination of hi-tech equipment and unique

production technology, the installation time for sleeve application gets reduced, and there is virtually no need in stitch roll for

final sleeve shrink in the weld joint zone.

Unique technology of adhesive bonding formation

The specially developed composition of the NOVEP epoxy primer provides high adhesion of the material with steel surface.

The adhesive composition is selected so that to ensure its temperature resistance, preserve its properties during entire service

life of the pipeline, reliable adhesion with the pipeline coating. The epoxy primer is to be applied to steel only. The result is a

great adhesion to the surface, reduced labour intensity of the coating application and significant material savings.
