On almost every level, 2011 – 2012 was an outstanding year beginning with the consolidation of Communications, Alumni, Development and the Foundation into one unit.

Staffing changes occurred with the hiring of Patricia Mitchell as AVP, promotion of Tammy Terrell-Brooks, and change of position for Gwen Caples to Director of the Welcome Center. Four other individuals are no longer with the university.

Formally created four new Alumni Affinity groups: J-Settes, Sonic Boom, Cheerleaders, and Alumni Student Recruitment group (STAR).

Established two new chapters: Simpson and Madison counties.

Held receptions in five cities. Serviced Alumni Association activities. Held successful Golden Class Reunion

raising a 25K endowed scholarship.

“Best financial shape ever” according to Leland Speed.

Largest endowment surpassing $14 Million. Largest asset base surpassing $52 Million. One University Place at 95% rental units

occupied for 2011 – 2012. One University Place at 85% retail units

occupied with grand openings of the Penguin, Royal Bleu, EnVisions and the Art Gallery.

Prepared for conversion to Banner, which will save $250K over six years.

Expanded activities broadly with targeted, synergisticactivities.

PR/Publications/Social Media Produced annual report, legislature piece, veterans

piece, Jacksonian, two Connections, inauguration and admissions pieces.

Averaged three news stories a day with e-blasts and JSU news page.

Social media presence increased to 21,000 Facebook followers, 8000 Twitter followers, 350,000 You-Tube news, and 435K Word Press news/stories on website (Jacksonian magazine was viewed 18,000 times online).

PR/Publications/Social Media Launched JSU app with over 10K participants.

Mailed Christmas card featuring “Get Ready”, which was a big hit.

Two successful text campaigns for students. Selected firms for branding and marketing and complete new web design involving over 30,000 pages.

Developed and implemented billboard, TV, radio and newspaper advertisements in targeted areas and populated streets in Jackson area, Greenwood and Biloxi. Increased enrollment for last fall and this fall looks even better.

Banners placed in areas surrounding main campus.

Four gateway banners installed. Created athletic hype squad. Supported inauguration activities.

Met with 40 departments, meshing marketing plans with university.

Created 15 commercials. Created 40 radio commercials. Wrote two funded grant proposals. Airport displays. Downtown and stadium banners.

Doubled Associated Press (AP) Awards to nine for excellence.

Won 17 honor awards for excellence from the Mississippi Broadcasters Association.

Fascinating interviews. Launched additional nation/world

connections with being on SIRIUS XM Internet Radio Channel 142 - 80 hours a week.

Celebrities Jesse Jackson, Rickey Smiley and Al Green did their radio shows from station.

Filed clean audit with CPB.

Renewal application approved through 2020.

Station manager was chosen as a CPB grant reviewer in May.

Co-launched the show “An Ounce of Prevention”.

Brought back the “Battle of the Saxes” event in April.

Launched the “Summer Jazz Breeze” at the Hilton Garden Inn on Mondays.

Increased on-air production by 400% with one additional bi-weekly program “An Ounce of Prevention”, nine special/celebrity interviews and delayed coverage of football and basketball games, which was a first.

Produced over 200 hours of live streaming events, which was an increase from the year before of 20 hours.

Produced university and department commercials as well as some for vendors.

Worked closely with Weather Vision to close on the partnership.

Following discussions with six network providers, a new 24 hour/7 days a week was selected.

Broadcast seven football and five basketball games live.

Coordinated marketing efforts for new ticket/pass design.

New Media Guide. Produced coaches shows. Covered all JSU sports with student support. Served as coordinator with all local, regional

and national sports reporters.

The number of gifts increased from 3,943 to 4,825.

Thirty-nine endowed scholarships obtained - up from the previous year.

Successfully met the Title III Endowment Challenge.

Established forty-three new policies and procedures.

Prepared for conversion to Banner.

Alumni giving percentage rose from 1.7% to 2.4%.
