MikeSolus’ Biography In 1993 Mike moved to London to attend University and study a degree in Philosophy. After selling his car in 1994, Mike bought his first set of decks (belt driven) and mixer, taught himself to DJ and began to play out at house parties with the Beady Eye Sound System Crew. Mike’s genre of choice was Hard House.
In 1995 he was offered a residency at the famous Rockit on Holloway Road for North London University events including ‘Smitten’, warming up for DJs including Seb Fontaine, Sister Bliss, John ‘00’ Fleming and Billy Nasty. He also played at the now defunct George Robey Club’s ‘Mega Dog’ parties hosting Eat Static and Ozric Tentacles. Mike was influenced by Club Labyrinth, Horny, the amazing Club UK and listening to radio stations like Freak FM and Girls FM. He shifted his musical direction to soulful US House and Garage and UK Vocal House sounds. What finally cemented his change in musical genre was New York; visiting the Tunnel Club, catching Junior Vasquez’s residency in full flow. 1998-2000 Mike hosted weekly pirate radio shows on Playas FM and Unknown FM. It gave him the opportunity to develop his knowledge of underground House, Garage and respective labels. Mike also held a residency at the LUNA C parties at The Chunnel Club in Vauxhall every month. He also continued the vibe every Sunday at the Hyper Bar in Gants Hill. In between he had guest slots at Strawberry Sundae’s Cloud 9 (playing Hard House), Bagley’s, MASS in Brixton and Ministry of Sound. In 2001 Mike left London to travel the world, with a bag of records. He spent 6 months on the famous party island of Koh Pan Gnan DJing for Rainbow Bungalow Sound System playing to over a 1,000 ravers on the beach at every Full Moon Party and the after parties at the Back Yard. One of his highlights was warming up for Sven Vath. He also played in Australia, Brazil, Indonesia and Mexico.
MikeSolus’ Biography In 2003 Mike hooked up with local promoters MikeD, Sonny and DJs D’ Funky Junkie and Groove Doctor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They all shared a passion for Disco, Funk, New York House and Garage music and had a vision for the KL dance music scene, which was beginning to explode.
Mike and D’ Funky Junky joined the new ‘Super Club’ 12SI as residents for the infamous club nights ‘Atmosphere’ and ‘Bliss’. Mike played with a roster of international DJs including Dimitri from Paris, Brian Tappert, DJ Bone and Faithless. By now he was also blending Deep House and Tech House records into his sets to give a more all-rounded feel to his to his take on House Music.
In 2004 Mike left 12SI to take up the position of Head DJ, at ‘LazyGod’; a homage to Ben Watt and Jay Hannan’s night 'LazyDog' in the UK. Heineken and Mambo sponsored the events. The music policy was Soulful, Uplifting, Funky House and Disco. Mike introduced a percussion section to the crew, which further enhanced the notoriety of this cool, underground house extravaganza.
It gained rave reviews from national newspapers and Juice magazine. He was also regularly contributing to the ‘Massive’ sessions on the national radio station RED FM. The show had over 1 million listeners every Sunday. He also had guest appearances at Zouk in Singapore, played at Ministry of Sound (Bangkok) and many times for the Rainbow Sound System at the Full Moon Party’s. Mike returned to the UK in 2006 and started working with the guys at HouseWorx, regularly DJing on their South Coast club nights. He also held a weekly residency at the Pool Bar in Shoreditch (Hoxton Pony) spinning Funk, Soul, House and Garage until it closed in 2009. Now under the moniker MikeSolus, he is ready to return to the DJ booth, analogue and digital cuts in hand to craft sets ranging from classic House to up-front US Garage and Deep House with a Disco, Funk and Soul twist.
