The Town of Unity signed a Sup-ply and Service Agreement for Water Treatment System with Soneera Water Canada Jan. 29 to upgrade the waste water treatment facilities for the town. The present facilities had been slated for replacement by Au-gust 2017. Soneera Water will install a “continuous flow electrofloccula-tion water treatment system” at the present lagoon site. Saskatoon-based civil engineering firm McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. will work with Soneera Water and together they expect that the system will be commissioned in summer 2016.

The signing of the agreement at the Town Office was attended by representatives of town council, Soneera Water, McElhanney Con-sulting Services Ltd, senior town staff, and the inventor of the system, Dr. Vivian Robinson.

Mayor Maljan was “incredibly proud” that Unity entered this agree-ment and will be the pilot site for the technology in Canada.

In return Soneera Water will bear the burden of the cost of the project, $2.5 million, until it is given its certificate to operate by the Water Security Agency (WSA) of Saskatchewan. Only after the WSA certifies the treatment plant will Unity pay for the specially-priced pilot project.
