Spring is, of course, the time of year we wake up from our winter slumber–or shake off our ski gear–and

begin to get a bit restless. We want to be outdoors more. We begin going through the laundry list of ways we want

to improve our homes. Or we begin to think about a new home altogether.

This issue is all about our love of outdoor living and the ways we turn our homes into spaces that blur

the line between indoors and outdoors. As you peruse these pages, you’ll find ideas to stimulate your passion

for painting your walls (Color Consultation, page 50), redesigning your kitchen (Trending in 2013, page 43) or

building an outdoor sanctuary for dining and entertaining (Made in the Shade, page 30).

One of my favorite articles in this issue is Small Spaces Big Style (page 54) for the creativity and

thoughtful design that went into a series of compact condos. The clever storage ideas and custom furniture

pieces designed for multi-purpose use–all modern and chic–will have you dreaming of downsizing.

The featured homes in this issue (beginning on page 60) are great examples of how Coloradoans live

indoors and out. Each home has its own unique aesthetic, but the relation from indoors to out runs true in

every one. You’ll see fascinating ways in which these homeowners connect to their natural surroundings.

As you consider your connection to the outdoors through your home, I know you’ll find inspiring ideas

to strengthen that association in this Outdoor Living issue. So, throw open the doors and windows, and let the

designing begin.

Best,

Heather Shoning
