Your home needs your attention! Take care of your home and it will take care of you and your family. These simple tips will help you keep your home in tip top condition for comfortable living.• Ensure clean air: The fresh air unit located at the entrance of your apartment and the fan coil units located inside your apartment are all part of the air-conditioning system. To achieve the best performance, they must be serviced four times a year, with one of these being a major annual service.• Prevent pests: To protect your home from pests, it is recommended you carry out pest control treatment in your entire apartment, once every quarter. Also, leaving waste on the floor inside the garbage room instead of disposing of it into the chute will attract pests, who will in turn invade your living space.• Clean drains: Dumping solid waste and grease into your drains will block the drainage system and lead to accumulated water overflowing or leaking into your apartment wall.

Vacation calling? Here’s a quick home safety checklistSummer’s here and for many of us that means it’s time for a holiday. Here are few simple things you can do to keep your home safe so you can enjoy yourself, instead of worrying about your apartment.

• Start with your doorstep: Nothing is more of a giveaway than newspapers piled outside your door; so, put your subscription on hold when you travel. You could also ask a neighbor to remove anything else that gets dropped on your doorstep.

• Keep your lights on: Consider putting your lights on a timer so it appears someone’s at home. But if you’re going to do this, make sure you shut the blinds so you’re not obviously lighting up an empty house!

• Don’t spread the word: Limit how many people know you’re leaving. You’ll probably need to set up an out of office message on your work email, but avoid doing the same on personal emails or voicemail.

• Invest in a safe: Use it to store any valuables and important documents that you’re not taking with you. You can buy one at most hardware stores.

• Switch off: Appliances left on standby use electricity all the time, which can add up to a significant amount if you’re going away for several weeks. Turning them off is not only better for the environment but will also eliminate the chance of anything catching fire. Make sure you switch off anything you don’t need.

• Avail Dubai Police assistance: Subscribe to the Home Safety Program by Dubai Police so you can be contacted in case there is a problem while you are away. To subscribe to this service, visit www.dubaipolice.gov.ae and fill in the application form. For assistance, call +971 4 203 6324/262 2861 or +971 50 880 6010.

You can also call our Community Security Hotline on +971 4 360 8871.

Finally, don’t forget to lock all your doors and windows and make sure taps are switched off. Bon voyage!

Double the blessing! This year ECM organized a very special Iftar for our Service Providers where for the first time, they were treated to a luscious buffet of traditional Arabic delicacies, along with shimmering scenes of Dubai from a dhow journey. Yes, our dedicated staff who work relentlessly for the upkeep of our communities were sent out into the Arabian sea to break fast and enjoy the spectacular views of the sunset. It was heartwarming to see some of our workers with tears of joy as it was the first time they experienced something like this.

Some of the corridor walls were in poor and faded condition due to the passage of time, humidity and exposure to other elements. To restore its original look and to give the community a fresh and lively makeover, the walls, ceiling and stair cases in the community have been repainted.

New planter pots have been added to the existing landscaping. The new enhancements offer a warm and welcoming experience to the entrance of the community. This new addition is the first phase of landscaping improvement for the community. Stay tuned for more to come.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle As part of ECM’s drive towards a sustainable community, and contributing to a green environment, a recycling pilot program has been introduced in the community in 2017. Following its success and over whelming response from the residents, recycling will now become part of the community. Each building will benefit from three Colour coded recycling bins per building. The 240L bins are placed in designated areas in the car park and further recycling cages for larger items are being placed in the waste collection room. The appointed service provider of waste collection in the community will collect the recyclable items from the community on a weekly basis.
