Project Background: In 2010, Rajeeb Das (BPAB Chair) successfully pursued BPAB funding for a bicycle repair pilot project to serve the cycling public in downtown

Gainesville. Sculptor John Patterson was commissioned to construct the piece using

recycled bicycle frames & other parts. The Alachua County Library Headquarters (Gainesville, FL.)

agreed to be the first location to test the pilot project with installation in early 2011.

INSTRUCTIONS: Use attached tools to repair bicycle. Tools include:

1/4 in. x 4in. Flathead Screwdriver Tire Lever*

Air Pump

Head/Crank Wrench* 5mm Hex Wrench*

Bicycle Multitool* (Screwdrivers &Wrenches)

Multi Spoke Wrench (8 slot)*

Tool Uses: Tire Lever = Small plastic tools used to pry a bicycle tire off of the rim. Hex Wrench = Hex or Allen key/ tool have a hexagonal cross-section used to drive bolts and screws that have a hexagonal socket in the head.

Spoke Wrench = Small tool used to adjust the tension in the spokes of a bicycle wheel.

Bicycle Multitool = Set of attached, portable bi-cycle tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches that are commonly used in bicycle repairs/maintenance.

Head/Crank Wrench = Used in repairs to the head-set (section of the bicycle which coordinates steering, con-nects the bicycle frame and fork together). This tool can also can be used in repairs to the crank (bicycle drivetrain that attaches to the arms of the pedals and rotates the chain for bicycle movement).
