Do-It-Yourself Painting TipsWhen you want to change the color of your room, sometimes you don’t have to call professional Houston painters. With a few guide, the right materials, and proper knowledge, you can actually paint a room by yourself.

Here are some simple painting tips that you need to keep in mind when you decide to paint your room on your own.

1. In choosing which color to paint your room with, consider the size and lighting of your room. Darker shade makes the room smaller while lighter color makes the room look wide.

2. Before buying paint, it is best to do your research first. You can even discuss what color you want to the hardware store’s paint personnel. Ask him the types of paint that is suited to your wall. Semi-gloss paints are versatile and may be used for many rooms.

3.   When doing the actual painting, it is advisable that you wear old but comfortable clothes. Remove all your jewelry pieces and other accessories in your body. The clothes that you will wear must be throwaway clothing, because it might get spilled with paint and dirt.

4.  Remove as many pieces of furniture out of the room or over them with newspapers. Clean the floor and place covers, as well. Set up an area in the room for all your paint materials and tools. With a putty knife, remove loose and flaking paint.

5.   After assembling everything, you can start with the paint proper. Tape the trim, doors, and window frames with masking tape. But don’t forget to remove it before the wall dries to avoid peeling off any paint with it. Apply base coat on all surfaces of the wall. This will allow the true color of your paint to show. Start from the ceiling then the walls. Use appropriate brush or rollers.

6. Use brush to finish off areas left out by the roller. Before applying a second coat, make sure that the first coat must be dry first.

Once you are done painting, clean up. Allow at least 24 hours for the paint to dry completely. Keep doors and windows open for proper ventilation. For more painting tips from Houston painters, visit http://www.southernpainting.com/houston-painters.
