Here at Oracle Digital, a Perth SEO company, we don’t really want you to do DIY SEO as we’re in business to help you but as promised from my last beginner’s article, here are some free SEO tips for you anyway, especially if you’re past the beginner SEO stage:

1. Header Tags

You probably already know that search engines read every single page on your website

(unless you implicitly tell them NOT to) Search engines read various tags on your page and tags add emphasis — helping the search engines put things in context. H1, H2, H3, etc tags, for instance, are headers that tell search engines that phrases contained within those tags hold importance on that particular page. It’s good to break up your

content with bold headings but tagging them (with H1,H2 etc) makes your content more eye-popping for the reader and it also makes various words and phrases stand out to the search engine spiders.

2. Alt and Title Tags

Alt tags provide further information to the

search engines, for example Google cannot read picture images. So when Alt Tags are used in your code overlaying a photo, this is particularly helpful in

allowing the Search Spiders to give credit to what that photo represents. If a visitor can’t display an image, they’ll see the phrase (Alt Tag) identifying the picture instead. This tells search engines what

that image is about and can add to the perceived relevancy and scoring factor for that page.

3. Title Tags or Page Titles

All of you can relate to driving along a rural highway and arriving in a small country

town, when you are on the outskirts of Town you typically see a big green sign telling you the town name, and quite often the population, land area etc. Well this is the same message that Title Tags/Page Titles give off to Search Engine Spiders when they arrive

on any given page of your website. They give clarity and cause so the search engine spiders know exactly what topic/s & information they can expect to see on that page. Tip: Always make sure that EVERY page on your website has a unique title tag which

accurately represents what information is being delivered on that page. Even if it’s as simple as ―Contact Us Information – <Company Name>‖

4. Site Maps and Robot Text

The Sitemap & Robot Text are like the maitre d of a Restaurant, they welcome the

Search Engine spiders into your website and direct them where to go and what to find when they get there. Making your website as easily navigable as possible is important.

This makes it easy for your visitors to figure out what the site is about and helps them get to where they want to go. It does the same for search engines and can help provide additional information in the search engine results pages, putting your site at a competitive advantage.

5. Page Content Keyword Density

How many words should budding intermediate DIY SEO folk use? How many times

should you include that word on the page? It’s subjective. Black hatters and beginners to SEO used to think that more was better. But how valuable is your content if it’s over-stuffed? It doesn’t take long for most to realise that not only could it hurt your page due to keyword stuffing rules with search engines but

that stuffing would result in a high bounce rate because the content wouldn’t provide value to your visitors.

Tip: Think quality first, then density. Write good content first, then optimise your content with relevant and targeted keyword phrases. Work them in naturally and strategically through the subheadings, in the tags, and at the start and end of your

content. Think quality before quantity.

Whether you choose DIY SEO or you hire a professional SEO company (or read their blog posts to get helpful SEO Tips), do continue to do all you can to learn about the best ways to optimise your website. Optimisation=targeted traffic and that equals huge

potential for profit and success!
