• Addictive

• Heart beats faster and narrows blood vessels

• Can cause heart disease

• Accelerates existing cancers

Tar

• Contains over 1000 chemicals, some of which cause cancer (carcinogenic).

• Irritates air passages and makes them narrower

• Stops cilia in the trachea from working properly

Carbon monoxide

• Taken up by the blood instead of oxygen

• Highly poisonous
