Do This In Memory of Me . . . Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” (LK 22:19 RSVCE) With these words Jesus ins!tuted the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Today during Mass we hear these or similar words as the priest says the Eucharist Prayer. During the Mass we are remembering what Jesus did at the Last Supper. At the Last Supper, Jesus was calling to mind for His Apostles the Passover at the !me of The Exodus.

The first Passover Ritual was prescribed by God at the !me the Tenth Plague was to be visited upon Egypt. God gave Moses explicit instruc-!ons on how the Israelites were to prepare for and celebrate the Passo-ver. Each family was to take an unblemished lamb, at least 1 year old, and slaughter it. The blood of the lamb was to be captured in a basin. Then later, using branches of hyssop, the blood of the lamb was sprin-kled on the two doorposts and lintel of the home. Each Israelite family was to perform this ritual as a means to protect the household from the last plague, which was Death of the First-Born. At midnight the Lord slew every first born in the land of Egypt. The first born of Pharaoh, the first born of the prisoner in the dungeon as well the first-born of the ani-mals. But because the Israelites had their doorposts marked as pre-scribed in the ritual the Lord passed over their houses and did them no harm.

In essence it was the blood of the Passover lamb that saved the Israel-ites from death. God prescribed the day of the Passover as a memorial feast for Israel. All genera!ons were to celebrate this feast with a pil-grimage to the Lord, as a perpetual ins!tu!on. In the next ar!cle I’ll cov-er some of the details regarding the Ritual of the Passover.

Parish Guideline: With good intention to welcome others to worship and pray with our Church, we ask the invited person, with your free will, be registered in our Parish for at least three (3) months in order to schedule for the Sacrament of Matrimony or Baptism. Otherwise, a letter of permission is definitely required from your Pastor. Sacrament of Baptism of a Child: Second Saturday of the month after 4:00 PM Mass. Arrangements are to be made at least one (1) month in advance. Contact the office for the date of train-ing. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): Arrangements are to be made with our Director Religious Education (DRE) for the further assistance. Words on the Word March 10, 2019 – Tempta%on Comes Along

Tempta!on and sin are lurking everywhere, at all !mes. That awareness takes on par!cular clarity, of course, as we en-ter into the holy season of Lent. It was interes!ng !ming, then, when news sources reported a couple weeks ago on a recent study that iden!fied the “most sinful states” in the United States, and even provided a complete ranking of the en!re un-ion. Interes!ng because rankings always have a way of piquing our curiosity, but also because the no!on of sin frequently seems lost in the secular world and, by extension, the main-stream media. The ranking quan!fied factors such as anger and hate, jealousy, excesses and vices, avarice, lust, vanity and lazi-ness.

For what it’s worth, the ranking indicated Nevada is the country’s most sinful state, followed in the top 5 by Florida, Cali-fornia, Texas and Tennessee. Michigan is ninth on the list, alt-hough we might take some solace in the fact that we have the lowest percentage of popula!on with gambling disorders. All of this might make for interes!ng water cooler talk, but, to be sure, there is much more at stake, whether one subscribes to the findings of such rankings or not. The fact is that all of us struggle with tempta!on, and none of us mere mortals are im-mune from sin. Even Jesus, though he did not sin, struggled with tempta!on. “Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for 40 days, to be tempted by the devil,” we hear in today’s gospel from St. Luke. And, a#er resis!ng the tempta!ons placed in front of him, the gospel concludes by no!ng that the devil “departed from him for a !me.” Perhaps our best strategy for dealing with ever-present tempta!on is to pray today’s psalm response: “Be with me Lord, when I am in trouble.” © 2019, Words on the Word


New Hymnals/Missalettes The parish is in the process of purchasing new hymnals and missalettes to replace the existing Gather hymnal and the quarterly, paperback missalettes. We plan to have the new hymnals in time for the Easter liturgies.

The new hymnal/missalettes will encompass all the readings in the A, B, and C cycles, as well as virtually all of the hymns that are currently in the Gather hymnal. The new hymnals will be a one-stop reference source for all weekend and special liturgical feasts. These hymnals will last for many years, and ultimately help the parish save money. We are offering parishioners an opportunity to purchase a permanent bookplate for each of the hymnals. The bookplates can be either a “Gift from ______________”, or “In memory of_____________”. The inscription on each bookplate is for a singular intention. For example: “This book is a gift from John and Mary Smith,” or “This gift from the Jones family.” Memorials should also be singular. For example: “This book is in memory of John Doe.” If you are interested in supporting the hymnal project, please complete the form below and place it in the col-lection basket or drop it off at the parish office. Lenten Retreat A Lenten Retreat is being held on March 25th and 26th. Fr. Phil Paxton will conduct each evening’s discus-sions beginning at 6:00pm in Church. Confessions will he heard on March 26th following the evening’s presen-ta!on. The retreat presents an excel-lent opportunity to assist us in our prepara!ons for the Easter season.

Sách Thánh Ca Anh Ngữ Mới với Lời Chúa

Giáo xứ chúng ta đang trong quy trình thay đổi sách Thánh Ca Anh Ngữ (TCAN) mới để thay thế sách cũ màu xanh “Gather”. Dự định sẽ có sách TCAN mới trong thời gian của tuần Phục Sinh.

Sách TCAN mới bao gồm các Bài Đọc và Phúc Âm của mỗi Chúa Nhật trong suốt chu kỳ 3 năm A, B, và C, và cũng có hầu hết các bài TC trong cuốn sách củ.
