Adoption of this plan by county supervisors should result in the use of Prop 40 funds at our community center for park and sports area capital improvements in exchange for a long term lease to Yuba County of an approximately 5 acre park area east of the community center building. The capital improvements include grass, bleachers, a snack shack, outside bathrooms, a water system for irrigating the park and ball field areas and bar-b-ques and picnic tables in the park area. Your Community Center Newsletter Update for December 1, 2008

Welcome to our fist issue of DOHIF Times – a newsletter intended to be published periodically with news and commentary about your new community center. We hope you enjoy this update and welcome your comments and questions. Please email me at: [email protected], or phone me at (530) 692-2294.

Chairman Douglas Binderup What happened in 2008: Here is a short recap of how your new community center (Alcouffe Center) changed in 2008:

- The operating engineers, including survey crew, used the Community Center site for 2 weeks of apprentice training in May. That effort resulted in a rough cut of driveways, parking, drainage, and sports courts. The cost to the foundation for this work was only fuel for transporting equipment (about $11,000) to and from the site and good lunches provided by our ever present volunteers. We estimate the Foundation received about $200,000 in value of heavy equipment work. Thank You Operating Engineers!

- Thanks to our dedicated group of volunteers (we call them “The 5 Amigos”) and additional volunteers from the community, the building is much closer to being usable for public and private events: interior doors and ceilings have been installed, and finish electrical and plumbing is done, along with fixtures and some appliances to make the restrooms, lighting, security and access functional.

- We have been working with Yuba County officials on a County wide parks master plan. The Dobbins-Oregon House community center is a significant part of that plan. You will find the complete plan on-line at http://www.co.yuba.ca.us/ click on “Parks Master Plan”. Final details of this plan and time frames are still being negotiated, but this is a very exciting development for your community center.

Alcouffe Center Newsletter for May 15, 2009

Welcome to DOHIF Times, a newsletter published periodically with information and commentary about your new community center. We hope you enjoy this update and welcome your comments and questions. Please email me at: [email protected], or phone me at (530) 692-2294.

Chairman Douglas Binderup What happened in 2008-2009: Here is a short recap of happenings at, and in support of, Alcouffe Center for the last six months:

- The 2008 Annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony quickly relocated to the community center when snow flurries showed up unexpectedly! Pat Dahms led the large crowd in enjoying a celebration of the Christmas Season with carols, skits and remembrances of Christmas past. Cookies, coffee and hot cocoa were especially tasty served in the warmth of the new community center!

- The Redbud Garden Club held their February meeting at Alcouffe center. They are planning to help landscape the grounds as their 2009 project. Douglas Binderup gave a history of the center project and led a tour of the building. The slope facing the entrance to the building is the most visible and in need of planting. A drip system and an assortment of plants such as trailing rosemary, forsythia, day lilies, ornamental grasses and butterfly bush are planned to keep the landscaping simple, hardy and drought tolerant. Troop & Pack 6400 Scouts have agreed to help with this project.

- On February 21, the Boy Scouts Annual Blue and Gold Dinner, sponsored by Cub Pack 6400 was attended by about 150 people. Mike Lee, chartering foundation representative and Pete Hammontre, executive director, both were honored with special awards for outstanding service.

- A Fund Raising Concert held February 22 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, featured Brian Ganz, a talented classical pianist. He performed selected arrangements from Chopin and Beethoven and explained the pieces, their history and meaning. His love for both the music and the composers was evident, which was well appreciated by the many attendees. Greg Holman did a fine job of arranging this outstanding fundraising benefit.

- On March 26, a delegation from DOHIF met with the Yuba County Building Department regarding a Conditional Use Permit. It is hoped that the final inspection will be completed and the permit will be issued by the time this newsletter is printed.

Building Progress: - Kitchen: Cabinets have been built and installed by Lloyd Appleby; They look great! Precision Stone has

agreed to donate and install the countertops. The kitchen tile floor has been laid, and the grease Interceptor will be installed soon. Upon installation of the ANSUL fire suppression system, the kitchen will be ready for final Inspection.

- Bathrooms: Fixtures, dividers and tile have been installed; all that remains to be completed are the mirrors.

Chairman Robert Longman What’s happened so far in 2010: Here is a short recap of some happenings at, and in support of, Alcouffe Center during 2010: Grand Opening of the Alcouffe Center occurred on March 20, 2010. The festivities began with the raising of the

American flag with the help of our local Boy Scouts and American Legion. The time capsule messages written by residents will be opened in 50 years. Visit our website to see photos of this memorable event.

Mardi Gras Crab & Shrimp Dinner was held at the Alcouffe Center on March 27, 2010. Be sure to check the website for pictures of this event. We look forward to seeing you at the February 19, 2011 Mardi Gras for another classic New Orleans style dinner.

Vintage Tractor days was another successful and fun weekend held the first weekend of May 2010 at Eventful Acres. To find out more about the 2011 Vintage Tractor Days, visit our website for information. This wonderful family event grows each year and attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the west.

The 3rd Annual wine tasting party, a fund-raiser for the Center took place at the Lucero Winery on Saturday, May 22 in Dobbins. Even though the weather was threatening, there was a good gathering to enjoy delicious appetizers, award-winning wines, wonderful music and good fellowship.

Alcouffe Center’s first Country Nite occurred on July 17, 2010. The free event included country music, line dancing instruction, socializing with locals and just plain ol’ Foothills fun! Concessions included hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, wine and sodas.

The Brian Ganz piano concerts and an Evening of Jazz in September were wonderful additions to the music variety at the Center.

The fifth annual North Yuba Harvest Festival had a great community turnout. It was held indoors this year at the Alcouffe Center due to rain. Activities included children’s face painting, musical entertainment, along with fine arts and crafts. Gourmet tasting included award-winning local olive oils and local wines. For just $10, wine tasting included a souvenir wine glass and wine-tasting of North Yuba Foothill wines.

Workout Sessions resumed in September which includes Circuit Training and newly added ZUMBA Dancing! One hour sessions are from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The sessions cost only $2 each. Contact Arylce Baker at 692-1060 for information.

Dec 2010 Page 2 Construction Progress:

- Park update: The baseball field, picnic area and playground are nearing completion. This area is a County Park available to all with no charge for use but on a first come first served basis. Park hours are sunup to sundown. Park use information is posted on the DOHIF website and at the facility.

- Exterior: With some concrete work and minor work yet to be done, the building exterior is complete. Sidewalks are scheduled to be completed in 2011. Upgrades are currently being made to the Center’s water system.

- Interior: With completion of the stage now in progress, installation of a drinking fountain and addition of video equipment, the building interior is near completion. Stage curtains will be added as funds permit. An exercise room is near completion in the South area of the building which will permit convenient use times.

Recent Noteworthy donations: Individual and business donations are the main source of funds for continuing improvements and to help cover operating expenses. For the many of you who have donated, and wish to do so, a very big Thank You! When road base was recently needed for driveway improvements, Teichert Aggregates generously donated six transfer loads of road base. And it goes without saying that the many businesses that help sponsor our fundraising events are invaluable partners in sustaining the Community Center. A tremendous thank you to all our sponsors.
