802.19.1 Workshop – 14 July 2010
Value Added Coexistence Services in the TV White Space• Duration: 4 1/2 hours planned for session including one 5 minute and one 30
minute break.
• Logistics: Planning for 80 (+/-) attendees including panelists. To be held in San Diego after 802 meeting on Friday 16 July at 1:00PM at the Manchester Hyatt.
• Purpose: We need to increase industry participation in this standards group. By bringing together companies and individuals who believe that there is a viable market in TVWS, we hope to convince other attendees to take an active role in this coexistence work. The FCC WS Database Managers are key to this workshop. 802.19 work is introductory here. 802.19.1 participants to learn from viewpoints of industry participants who may not directly influence standard. Goal here is for all attendees to better understand how TVWS market will work and to identify useful solutions for the coexistence standard.
• Two part workshop: introductory presentations followed by industry panels/discussions

Report
Pre-RevCom IEEE-SA Review
• Possibly near the end of Working Group Letter Ballot (3rd recirc or 4th recirc) , we will offer the draft to the publications editor for review. This allows ambiguities and errors to be addressed in Sponsor Ballot by comments, rather than discover the ambiguities and errors after RevCom.
• It appears that during MEC is the least risky time for a publication editor’s review.
• TGs Draft 7.0 is expected out of July plenary, and by agreement with ExCom and IEEE SA staff, will go for professional editing for ~50 days, after which Draft 8.0 will be available to start Sponsor Ballot.

Unified Metrics
Unified Metrics for Management of Smart Grid Home Area Networks (Dec 2009) Tim Godfrey, Craig Rodine
1st International Workshop on Smart Grid Communications
Multiple IEEE network technologies, including 802.11, 802.15.4 and P1901 can all support Smart Grid applications in Home Area Networks (HANs).
Utilities need visibility into the HAN to ensure the network is operational and able to support critical applications such as Demand Response and Electric Vehicle Charging.
This paper describes a set of network performance metrics that are consistent among the most prevalent HAN network technologies.
