Aims of the Programme The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme of AMA International University- Bahrain composed of 18 credit units of core courses in the functional areas of business and general management and 12 credit units of elective courses in specialized business topics. The programme is concluded with a 6 credit-unit thesis course. The MBA programme aims graduates to become effective managers and leaders of business organizations operating in a globally competitive and complex business environment and meet the needs of the industry and governments not only in the Kingdom of Bahrain and other GCC states but also in other parts of the world. Upon completion of the programme, MBA graduates, one (1) to three (3) years after graduation, will be able to :

1) Practice as managers and business specialists to improve the quality of management as profession after acquiring and developing the following:

Decision making tools and techniques that will teach them how to analyze data (e.g.

Techniques and tools useful for financial analysis and control in today’s business climate - integrating five distinct areas of study; financial accounting, managerial accounting, managerial economics, corporate finance, Islamic banking and finance, and international financial management, including quantitative skill development, especially in financial statement analysis, valuation techniques, accounting for financial transactions, and assessing foreign exchange risk.

Skills and knowledge set necessary in managing today’s business operations for productivity

and performance. Graduates must be able to evaluate the structural and cultural challenges that confront international managers and identify key attributes of successful business leaders. They would be able to recognize the significance of corporate culture, especially local labor and management relations, on the design and effectiveness of multinational organizations.

Global business perspective through a range of issues that emerge from the conduct of business in diverse economies, political systems, and cultures including; the policies of government and international organizations; changing patterns of international competition; managing in developing countries; and its role in management decision-making.

Strategic thinking and decision making skills. Beginning with an analysis of industry and competition, graduates develop entrepreneurship concepts, tools, and techniques that are essential for accurately diagnosing and enhancing the competitive performance of an international enterprise.

2) Exercise career on highest ethical standards and professionalism.

10. Learning Outcomes, Teaching, Learning and Assessment Methods A. Knowledge and Understanding Skills Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will be able to: A1. Demonstrate relevant theoretical/research-based knowledge at the forefront of their academic

to be able to manage the implications of ethical dilemmas and work proactively with others in formulating solutions; and

A3. Distinguish appropriate tools, techniques and approaches in developing business strategies whether theory or research-based.

B. Course-Specific Skills Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will be able to: B1. Operate in complex and specialized contexts, and has an overview of all management functions and

practices, and be able to integrate these to address specific business problems; B2. Apply with precision and effectiveness new skills and new procedures to help improve business

C. Thinking Skills Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will be able to: C1. Demonstrate a high level of conceptual understanding that will allow him to critically evaluate

research and methodologies and recommend alternative approaches; C2. Analyze and solve complex management problems, and synthesize information that may be

innovative utilizing quantitative tools, techniques and approaches from the forefront of the discipline; and

C3. Plan and implement tasks at a professional level, and make management decisions in complex and unpredictable situations.

D. General and Transferable Skills (other skills relevant to employability and personal development) Upon successful completion of the programme, the student will be able to: D1. Use full range of learning processes, translate knowledge of management principles, concepts, and

approaches into business researches, plans, strategies to improve business operations; and independently and competently undertake research tasks with minimum guidance;

D2. Employ effective problem-solving skills in order to come up with sound and ethical business reports and decisions, and communicate all these clearly and confidently; and

D3. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills for industry growth and global competitiveness; exhibit ability to direct and make appropriate use of the capacities of group members, and able to handle conflict with confidence.

Teaching and Learning Methods Lecture-Discussion. Lectures and Discussions will be used to guide and facilitate acquisition of

knowledge. The lecturer explains key concepts of the course to allow students to use their study time more effectively. The focus of the lecture is to guide, explain and facilitate discussions from among the students in the class rather than to transmit facts which can be read from the recommended textbooks or reading materials. Students are therefore required to do advance reading in order to actively participate in the course discussions.

Seminars. Seminars complement the lectures. These are interactive sessions conducted by students. It is designed to give students opportunity to test their understanding of the materials covered in the lectures and private study usually reference on questions identified in advance by the lecturer.

Case Study / Problem-solving. This learning methodology allows students to apply the concepts, tools and techniques of analysis learned and apply them to the real business problems. The case study serves as a supplement to the theoretical knowledge imparted during the lecture component of the class.

Workshop / Group Work / Assignments / Simulations / Role Play. These learning methodologies involve students working in small groups and encourages group learning. The methodologies provide opportunities for independent learning, creative and reflective thinking, debate and discussions amongst members of the group to provide an opportunity for students to develop depth and breadth in the understanding of the course.

Research. This learning methodology develops the students’ research skills. It provides an opportunity for critical thinking and broadens the theoretical knowledge in the lecture component of the class.

Assessment Methods Assessment is done independently for each course. Variety of assessment tools will be used to assess

achievement of intended learning outcomes including but not limited to: assignments, quizzes, case analysis and presentation; in-class test and formal sit down examinations; group presentation; research projects; capstone project documentation and presentation.
