text Dockwise Yacht Transport
Transportation foryachts and megayachtsNowadays the pleasures of living in the Medite-
rranean and taking a vacation onboard your own
yacht doesn’t necessarily mean having to spend a
month crossing the Atlantic with its associated anxie-
ties and loss of precious time. On the occasion of
this company’s thirtieth year in business, we now
take a look at how Dockwise Yacht Transport trans-
ports yachts and megayachts all over the world’s
most transited sea routes.
A great deal has happened on the yachting scene since
this company transported its very first yacht back in 1987,
including the fact that both the number and size of these
yachts has increased at virtually the same rate with the
resulting increasingly greater demand. So much so that
last year Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) transported
more than 1,300 yachts to different places around the
world. This company specialises in the transportation of
vessels up to 146 metres in length and therefore has to
provide a service which is both reliable and safe, some-
thing which might appear to be obvious, but isn’t neces-
sarily so. For this reason, the company uses specially
designed hi tech yacht carriers to facilitate not only the
transportation but also the loading and offloading.
The methodology employed to achieve such success,
or so we have been told, begins with having excellent

vision and some genuine intentions to offer a better
service to yacht owners and captains who benefit from
the saving on time, the responsibilities and the work.
And one of the keys to understanding this business is,
without a doubt, that of understanding the old “time
is money” cliché, since many people look upon time
as gold, and having a company to safely transport the
private yacht from one place in the world to their very
own Antipodes is one way to make the most of this.
Since the service extends the world over, the company
has to have a well qualified workforce to attend to its
clients anywhere on the planet, something achieved
thanks to this company having an extensive infrastruc-
ture, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA).
Bright ideas
“More than 70% of this planet is water”. With a pre-
mise as simple as this it's not difficult to follow this com-
pany’s ideology in providing solutions for yacht owners
who, for whatever reason, don’t wish to transport the
yacht themselves. On many occasions this reason is
down to the yacht's range considering that nowadays
the majority of cruising yachts navigating our waters do
not actually have a sufficient range to cross the ocean.
In just a few years DYT has become a point of reference
in yacht transportation, not only for being the market lea-
der but also for offering the most habitual routes for both
motor and sailing yachts of all sizes, always with a service
based on safety, regularity and reliability, three aspects
any yacht owner would like to be moored up to.

Float-on/float-off loading system
Not without good reason some of Dockwise's yacht
carriers have recently undergone certain modifica-
tions which, according to the company, will serve to
provide a more appropriate service for luxury yachts.
Aside from the semi-submersible feature for which
Dockwise are known, now the yacht carriers also
come with spray-covers to safely accommodate
yachts both large and small. The float on/float-off
loading and offloading system is fairly straightfor-
ward and brings peace of mind to yacht owners
when they see their megayachts being treated with
such due care and attention. The process first invol-
ves preparing the yacht carrier’s support elements,
after which the vessel is partially submerged into
what becomes a floating marina with sufficient
draught for the new “passengers” to enter and moor
up to the yacht carrier’s artificial dock. Once the
yachts are all aboard, well secured thanks to sup-
ports positioned by divers, the water is emptied,
transforming Dockwise once again into a dry dock
yacht carrier, the yachts are anchored in place and
so begins one of the safest yacht carrier services on
the market.
With the aim being to speed up the process, the
company explains in detail the instructions which
need to be followed during and before the loading
process, such as how to protect fragile elements,
stowing certain objects, removing furling gear for
the jib/genoa and the mainsail in the case of sailing

yachts, protecting stainless steel components with
such as wax or Vaseline to avoid any unpleasant sur-
prises.
Safety
For many of us, safety means peace of mind, and it
seems this also applies to Dockwise, the reason for
which this company, intent on offering DYT customers
peace of mind, insure their megayacht passages
through Nausch, Hogan & Murray, Inc., a well know
insurance company with branches the world over. This
insurance company offers exclusive insurance cover
making yacht transportation a safe and uncomplicated
issue. In addition to this, as a consequence of the com-
pany’s excellent history, this yacht transportation servi-
ce now enjoys excellent premiums with the resulting
reduction in the prices and more comprehensive cover.
Cover includes an all risks civil liability policy, the
physical loss or any damage attributed to the ship
from the moment the loading begins in port to the
moment the yacht is offloaded in the destination port
and includes any carrier changes.
From point to point
Regardless of distances, the company offers clients the
destinations most requested around the world by yacht
owners. In the Mediterranean: Marmaris, Olbia, Palma
de Mallorca, Genoa and Toulon. In northeast Europe:
Cherbourg, La Rochelle and Estocolmo. On the East
Coast of the United States: Newport R.I., Port

y Toulon. En el noroeste de Europa: Cherbourg, La Rochelle y
Estocolmo. En la costa este de Estados Unidos: Newport R.I.,
Port Everglades, Freeport y Bahamas. En la costa oeste del
Pacífico: Ensenada, Golfito, La Paz y Vancouver B.C. En el
Caribe: Martinica y St. Thomas.
ofrecer seguridad a grandes y pequeños yates a vela y motor

In the Caribbean: Martinique and St. Thomas. And,
finally, in the South Pacific : Auckland and Brisbane.
Exclusive Yacht Carriers
“Explorer”, 157 metres long, finally became a yacht
carrier after having undergone modifications to its
secondary gangways, the installation of rubber fen-
ders as well as power and fresh water supply con-
nections. Currently set up to transport either motor
or sailing yachts. “Super Servant” 3 and 4 have also
been modified for improved transportation, with the
introduction of side quays to provide improved
safety for motor yachts and sailing yachts both big
and small. In anticipation of the growth in the yach-
ting industry, in 1994, The “Siervo Super 4” was
extended by a further 30 metres, giving this carries
a total length of 139 metres. It just so happened that
this year the “Yacht Express” also began to operate,
making this the very first specially constructed yacht
carrier. For certain this will become the most rapid
transatlantic yacht carrier service. This new ship fea-
tures exclusive yacht carrier services, as well as con-
ference suites, press room, an atrium with swimming
pool, gymnasium, full crew cabins and other facili-
ties to ensure the voyage is both pleasant and pro-
ductive. 209 metres long, this yacht carrier is the lar-
gest of its type in the world. www.yacht-transport.com
