PREFACE
California public schools provide classtoom instruction which supple-ments and'it related to the practical on-the-job training of apprenticesregistered with the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards.
Each year a,survey is conducted to determine the number of.indontured'apprentices %Au) are receiving related,and supplemental instructionthroughout the public schools. This survey was conducted cooperaiivelyby staff of.the California State Department of Education,yocationalEducation Unit, and the California,Community Colleges, Vocationa ducation
iASection. The State Department of Education portion of the, repo t w s
lacompleted by telephone survey because of staff reaegnments wi thin he
unit. It is anticipated that a mailout survey will be comple ed for
the 1980 report.
As of the final week of February, 1979, a total of 76 seco dary schooland community college districts were providing instructio4 to 24,355apprentices in 1,108 classes for 47 trades. This:: statistics do not'reflect the'tcit 1 enrollment during the school year inamiluch as com-.
pletions/and in tial enrollments varied according to local conditionsand poii4ies, 4
