The enterprise is the main supplier of high�voltage bushings for power industry in Russia and CIS countries.

Hundreds of thousands of bushings were manufactured and are in operation now.

The bushings of any climatic�dependent design version are available.

All the bushings are interchangeable with manufactured previously in regard of overall dimensions and connectingdimensions.

Quality management sys-tem according to require-ments of internationals t a d a r d EN ISO 9001:2008 is oper-ating at the plant.

All the bushings are certi-fied for compliance withState Standard GOST10693�81 and other regula-tory documents of Russia'sGosstandard.The bushings also complywith Standard IEC 60137.

Kinds of insulation

High�voltage bushings for power trans-

formers and reactors are produced with

two kinds of internal condenser�type insu-

lation: RIP (Resin Impregnated Paper) and

OIP (Oil Impregnated Paper).

Design of the bushing withRIP�insulation

Internal RIP�insulation is the main

structural part of the bushing; it is the insu-

lating body formed by winding dielectric

paper divided by conductive grading layers

on the central tube (figure 1).

The grading layers serve for optimal

distribution of electric field in radial and

axial directions, providing the highest

dielectric strength values of both internal

and external insulation, including the lower

part of the bushing placed inside the

transformer or reactor.

RIP�insulation is manufactured by wind-

ing crepe paper produced by «Weidmann

Systems International AG» (Switzerland) or

«Karl Fislage GmbH & Co.

KG»(Germany), then the paper is impreg-

nated with epoxy compound under vacuum and

subsequently solidified under pressure.

RIP�insulation has practically no gas inclu-

sions.

After thermal treatment and varnishing of

external surface, the insulating body forms a

solid kernel, and a coupling is mounted on it

under press fit.

The main advantages of RIP�insulation are

high reliability and long service life performance

due to its low dielectric losses, low level of par-

tial discharges in the insulation, and high ther-

mal stability.

External insulation covers the upper part of

the insulating body located outside the trans-

former or reactor and is made of porcelain or

silicone rubber.

Porcelain insulation is the porcelain housing

with the flange mounted on its top. The joints

between the porcelain housing, connecting

sleeve and the upper flange are sealed by gas-

kets made of oil resistant rubber.

Compression of gaskets is provided by the

spring tightening device ensuring stable strain

in case of length change of the insulating body

and porcelain housing in the range from �60 to

+120°С.

The space between the insulating body and

porcelain housing is stuffed with filler for pro-

tection from moistering.

The design of the bushing ensures its

reliable leak�tightness.

Leak�tightness of the transformer is ensured

even in case of damaging the bushing's porce-

lain housing. The spring tightening device is

placed under the protective casing,

leak�tightness between the central tube and the

upper flange is provided by two rubber O�ring

gaskets.

Silicone rubber insulation is offered as an

alternative to porcelain insulation at bushings

with internal RIP � insulation (figure 2).

The bushings equipped with such insulation

have the following advantages:

absolutely dry, explosion�proof design requir-

ing no maintenance;

high tracking resistance, hydrophobic behav-

ior of external insulation preventing

flash�over without cleaning its surface, even

in case of simultaneous exposure to moisture

and contamination;

external insulation fins having constant or

varying spread, according to individual cus-

tomer's requirements;

seismic load resistance;

damage�proof external insulation made of

organic�silicon composition, reducing risk of

damage during transportation and mounting;

minimum weight;

environmental safety;

stability of properties during the whole oper-

ation life.

Silicone rubber insulation is moulded of

elastic material created on the basis of

proprietary organic�silicon compositions of

RTV�2 type by «Wacker Chemie GmbH»,

Germany.

Moulded and polymerization takes place

directly at the insulating body, thus completely

excluding usage of filler including the trans-

former oil. Besides, no spring tightening device

is needed.

Pressure compensator is intended for

compensating changes of oil volume caused by

temperature variations. It is used only in the

bushings with external porcelain insulation

where transformer oil is used as a filling materi-

al. The compensator is provided by the gas

cushion located in the upper part of the bush-

ing.

Oil level is checked visually through the

oil�level sight glass at the protective housing.

Test tap connected to the last grading

layer of the insulating body serves for check-

ing the internal insulation. The test tap shall

be obligingly grounded when measurements

are not performed (figures 1,2).

The design of test tap equipped with

spring�loaded contact anticipates connection

of diagnostic tools during operation.

Transportation and storage of the bush-

ing require protection against moisture and

mechanical damage of the lower part of the

varnished surface of the body, submerged in

transformer oil during operation. Polyethylene

cover with silica gel desiccant and bakelite or

tin cylinder is used for this purpose.

Design of the bushing with OIP�insulation

Internal OIP insulation is the main structuralpart of the bushing. It is the insulating body formedby winding dielectric paper divided by conductivegrading layers on the central or winding tube (fig-ure 3).

The grading layers serve for optimal distributionof electric field in radial and axial directions, provid-ing the highest dielectric strength values of bothinternal and external insulation, including the lowerpart of the bushing placed inside the transformer orreactor.

For bushings with pulled�through type connec-tion*, which have high current rating, winding ismade around a separate tube so that a channel isformed between the central tube and the windingtube, where oil circulates to cool and level the tem-perature of the insulation body during operation.

For bushings with other type of connection, theinside space of the central tube serves as such achannel.

In 750 kV bushings for reactors and 1150 kVbushings for transformers (figure 4), internal insu-lation is divided into two parts � the inner and theouter insulation, so that additional oil circulationchannel is formed to achieve better cooling.

Prior to assembly the frame is vacuum dried.After assembly the bushing is vacuum treated andimpregnated with transformer oil. Thermo�vacuumtreatment parameters ensure high reliability and

long�term performance of insulation during operation of the bushing.

External porcelain insulation consists of the upper and bottomhousings. Together with the coupling and the protective casing,they form a hermetically sealed oil�filled cavity where the insulationbody is placed.

The top and bottom butt ends of the cavity are covered byflanges. The joints between the porcelain housings, coupling andprotective casing are sealed by gaskets made of oil resistant rub-ber. Stable compression of gaskets is provided by spring tighteningdevice, compensating the length change of the parts when temper-ature varies in the range from �60 to +120°С. Compression of gas-kets sealing joints between the central tube and the flange isensured by bolts.

Pressure compensator is intended for compensation ofchanges of oil volume caused by temperature variations and islocated in the upper part of the bushing or in the external pressuretank mounted at the transformer tank lid.

Gas cushion or leak�proof metal bellows may be used as com-pensator.

Oil level in the bushings with gas cushion is checked visuallythrough the oil�level sight glass at the protective housing.

Leak�tightness of the bushing with bellows compensator ischecked by pressure indicator � manometer.

Test tap connected to the last grading layer of the insulatingbody serves for checking the internal insulation. The test tap shallbe obligingly grounded when measurements are not performed (fig.3).

The shield for leveling electric field is mounted in the lower partof the bushing, except the bushings for reactors and some types oftransformers which have the shield as integral part of the design.

The shield is not mounted at the upper part of the bushings(except 1150 kV bushings): special tests confirmed absence ofcorona discharge for voltage which is 10% higher than the highestoperating phase voltage.

ModificationEarthquake�resistant bushings marked with "C" letter were addi-

tionally tested for maintaining operability in case of earthquakeshaving magnitude up to 9 according to MSK�64 scale, and guaran-tee keeping of operating parameters in case of earthquakes.

High�altitude bushings marked with "в" letter are intended forusage at altitude over 1000 m above sea level.

ConnectionDepending on the method of connec-

tion to the transformer coil or reactor

coil, the bushings are classified as

follows.

1. Pulled�through type bushings,

which are connected by means of

pulling the copper cable of the tap (see

table 1) with soldered contact stud

through the central tube of the bushing

(figure 5).

The contact stud is supplied with the

bushing and is soldered to the tap at the

place of installation of the bushing.

2. The bottom�connected bushings,

featuring connection implemented by

clamping the tap cable with special bolts

(figures 6a, b) or nuts (figure 6c) at the

bottom contact tip of the bushing.

The bottom�connected bushings

with plug�in connector, featuring con-

nection implemented by inserting the

plug located at the bottom end of the

bushing into the socket at the end of the

tap (figure 6d).

In the first case, the tap cable from

the transformer winding serves as the

conductor, while in the second case �

the bushing's central tube.

For connecting lead�in from the busbar, the terminal is

screwed to the threading of the upper contact stud (figure 7).

The terminal is supplied together with the bushing and is

fixed to the contact stud at the place of installation.

Technical dataThe main information for choosing the bushing is con-

tained in its code designation (figure 8).

Technical specifications, overall, fitting and connecting

dimensions of the bushings are presented at figures 5�7 and

in table 2.

Testing and operation

Every type of bushing passed accept-ance tests for compliance with all require-ments of State Standard GOST 10693�81and Standard IEC 60137.

Every manufactured bushing issubjected to hand�over tests for the purposeof checking its compliance with the require-ments in regard of the type and quality ofmanufacture, including test measurement ofpartial discharge level and tgδ of the insula-tion, according to the mentioned documents.

The advantage of the bushings with solidinsulation as compared to oil impregnatedpaper insulation is that oil contained in themis not intended for active insulation.Therefore, they need no regular conditionmonitoring. Technical maintenance requiresonly periodic (once in 4 years) measurementof tgδ of the bushing insulation.

Interchangeability

The range of products being manufac-tured includes not only the bushings cur-rently mounted on the newly made trans-formers and reactors, but also thosedesigned instead of the bushings manu-factured previously. In this case, adequa-cy of the submerged bushing parts andthe length of the pulled�through tap, aswell as fitting dimensions of the mountingflange, are observed; if necessary, this isco�ordinated with the transformer andreactor manufacturers.
