TRANSCRIPT
Great news this week with Ms Sewell having
a healthy, bouncing baby boy! Congratulations
to Olive on her new baby bother Arlo!
Christmas Carols! On Thursday 7th December
we are expecting a very special visit from
Santa! The children will serenade parents with
carols in our weather shed from 2.30, and
parents are asked to bring a wrapped present
(of the literary variety) to the office for Santa
to present on the day. Looking forward to the
XMAS cheer!
Swimming lessons are on Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday this week. Thank you to
all of our students for your energy and
participation in the program over at John and
Robbie’s pool.
Thank you to the parents who were able to
make it to the P&C meeting last night. The
contribution made to the school by the
fundraising efforts of our P&C cannot be
overestimated. The climbing equipment,
weather shed extension, playhouse area and
the soon-to-be-completed sandpit shade sail
replacement and extension allow our students
plenty of creative play areas during lunchtime
and recess, and they have all been funded
through the P&C.
Joel Fitzgibbon popped into Warrawalong last week!
Presentation Night! Planning is well
underway for this night of nights! Parents,
please ensure that you make the $10
contribution to the school for costumes. The
costume items will be taken home by the students
after the night.
Premier’s Reading Challenge. This long-running
initiative has proved to be a great motivation in
helping to get students interested in reading fiction
texts. As the great humourist Garrison Keillor said,
“A book is a gift you can open again and again.” A
special mention to Jaimie, Atticus and Harry, who
today received a Platinum PRC Certificate for
completing the challenge for 7 consecutive years!
Thank you to Mrs Baker for your time and energy
promoting this great initiative!
Before the completion of 2018 I would like to
thank this year’s Year 6 cohort, who have impressed
the teachers with their maturity, leadership,
initiative and friendliness throughout the year. A
special group, as both teacher and principal I have
been very appreciative of their leadership and
support. I know that Jaimie, Nirikai, Flynn, Nash,
Zander, Blake, Rudi, Atticus and Harry will make the
most of their last few weeks at Laguna.
School Plan 2018-2020. We are currently in the
throes of creating the school plan, which links the
school’s vision and strategic directions to school
programs, activities and resources. Consultation with
our school community is an important aspect of
school planning, and recently community member
Karen Jones conducted a survey of 20 randomly
selected families. Survey results can be found on our
website, please follow link: http://www.laguna-

Finchley News… … Week seven already! Where has the time gone? The
Finchley students are continuing to work hard and give everything their best.
We have been focusing on contractions and reading fluency during literacy,
and collecting and graphing information in maths. We have nearly completed
our unit on landscapes, and I am impressed at just how knowledgeable the
students are. Next we are looking at the sustainable use of water in science.
A timely topic as we head into summer. Dance practice and swimming
lessons are keeping the students very active, and the Presentation
Night vibe is definitely in the air!
EGG CARTONS WANTED! Our wonderful volunteer Janet donates her eggs
to a refugee charity down in Sydney, and is needing egg cartons. Any spares
gratefully accepted!

Yengo News….
This week in team Yengo, students have been sharing their knowledge of rainforests.
Students have presented their projects in some amazing and creative ways!
We have seen some great presentations, amazing posters, technical models and even an awesome scratch presentation!
The class have used great skills preparing and presenting their projects.
Students used great eye contact and expression while presenting.
We even allowed other students to give some positive feedback for next time.
Well done for all the effort you have put in to the projects!

The Warrawalong Word!
The highlight of our week has been the presentations of our science projects. Students were
asked to complete a Powerpoint presentation that demonstrated an aspect of human
endeavour in our solar system and how related scientific discoveries have benefitted humankind.
We have had many standout presentations across a huge range of topics, including: the Apollo
11 mission, the International Space Station, Greek astronomy and the mysterious ‘Planet 9’!
The students also demonstrated their growing aptitude with Powerpoint, embedding sound and
video clips to great effect.
Stars of The Week!
Thank you to Taj from Yengo and Olive and Tess from Finchley for working so
hard to uphold our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage,
Honesty and Compassion!
