By receiving rewards for the desired behaviors, your dog learns to choose how to do the right thing, rather than just how to avoid doing the wrong thing. As you train your dog, you create a relationship based on trust and understanding. They are capable of performing a multitude of complex behaviors. You don't have to hurt dogs to train them! OPERANT CONDITIONING Behaviorists use the words: Positive, negative, reinforcement, and punishment. Positive means something good: something added (treat or toy). Negative means something bad: something is taken away (toy, attention, privilege). Reinforcement means making something stronger. Punishment is something bad and often uses force: reduces the likelihood something will be repeated. B.F. Skinner's Theory of Operant Conditioning.
