PARTNERS IN TRAINING
With a firm commitment to training your dog, you are insuring that you will have a loyalfriend for life: and you could be saving your dogs life.Social contract: agree to provide for the needs of your dog in exchange for theircompanionship and unconditional love (a great deal on our end!).To uphold your part of the contract you must teach your dog the necessary social skills thatthey will need to adapt to the human world.
POSITIVE DOG TRAINING
Positive reinforcement methods: opensthe door to your dog’s mind (a way youboth can understand each other).By receiving rewards for the desiredbehaviors, your dog learns to choosehow to do the right thing, rather than justhow to avoid doing the wrong thing. As you train your dog, you create arelationship based on trust andunderstanding. They are capable of performing amultitude of complex behaviors. Youdon't have to hurt dogs to train them!
OPERANT CONDITIONING
Behaviorists use the words: Positive, negative, reinforcement, and punishment.Positive means something good:something added (treat or toy).Negative means something bad: somethingis taken away (toy, attention, privilege).Reinforcement means making somethingstronger.Punishment is something bad and oftenuses force: reduces the likelihoodsomething will be repeated.
B.F. Skinner's Theory of OperantConditioning.
