PRODUCT SAFETY AND HEALTH STATEMENTS

Safety for your dogStudies conducted by animal health professionals at

Dogtra Company’s training facilities showed noadverse effects to the cardiovascular or nervous systemof dogs from e-collar stimulation. These studiesinvolved healthy dogs in a controlled environment.

Dogs should be in good health during any e-collartraining. Dogtra e-collars are not intended for use ondogs weighing less than 12 pounds or under 6 monthsof age.

Skin irritation can occur from prolonged wearing ofthe stainless steel contact points on the training collar. Most dogs will exhibit some type of irritation (pressurenecrosis) from prolonged contact of stainless steelcontact points. This is why it states in your owner’smanual:

Attention:

Avoid having the dog wear the collar with thecontact points in the same place for more than two hoursat a time. Leaving the contact points on the same spot foran extended period of time can cause skin irritation. If the dog is to wear the e-collar for long periods, occasionally reposition the collar so that the contactpoints are moved to a different spot on the dog’s neck.

Fitting the Collar on the Dog

The collar should be fitted so that thestainless steel contact points press firmly againstthe dog’s skin.

A loose fit can allow the collar to movearound on the dog’s neck. When this happens thecontact points may rub the skin and causeirritation. If the collar is too loose, electricalcontact will be inconsistent and your correctionswill be inconsistent also.

Receiver Battery Charging Receptacle

On the inside of the collar receiver, next tothe collar strap, is a battery charging receptaclewith a rubber cover plug.

Internal Antenna

The has a non-exposedantenna that is located inside the collar receiver.

Receiver Charging Receptacle

The battery charger and charging cables allowyou to charge both the transmitter and receiver atthe same time. The battery charger is designedfor a 120-volt wall outlet. (European 230-voltAC chargers and 12-volt field charger for yourautomobile are also available.)

To use the battery charger for the two-dogunit, combine both sets of battery charging(splitter) cables as shown. This enables you tocharge the transmitter and both receivers at thesame time.

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

uses Ni-MH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride)batteries that do not set a memory and can becharged on a regular basis without harm to thebattery. There is no need to completely drain thebatteries between charges. However, doing sowill help to extend the overall lifetime of thebatteries.

1. Charge the unit for 14 hours before usingthe collar for the first time.

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

20

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

2. Do not charge the batteries near anyflammable substances.

3. Fully charge the batteries for 14 hours ifthe unit is to be stored without use for aperiod of a month or more.

4. Recharge the unit if:- the indicator light on the collar is emitting

a red color- the indicator light on the transmitter or

23

TESTING

Battery Charging Procedure

1. Attach the charging cables to both thetransmitter and receiver(s), as shown onpage 20.

2. Plug the charger into a 120-volt wall outletor, if using the accessory field charger, plug into a cigarette lighter. (Use a 230-volt European charger for Europe.) Whenproperly plugged in, all indicator lightsshould glow red.

The receiver automatically turns off whenyou insert the charging cable into thebattery-charging receptacle on the receiver.

3. After charging, cover the battery chargingreceptacles with the rubber plugs on thetransmitter and receiver.

4. The battery is fully charged with a 14-hourcharge. The lights will stay red during thecharging process. They DO NOT turngreen when fully charged. Charging thebatteries for more than 14 hours at one timewill not extend battery life.

22

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

1. To activate the , placethe red dot on the back of the transmitter to thered dot on the collar receiver. Hold the two reddots together for a moment until the LEDindicator light comes on. The indicator lightwill blink every two seconds showing the unitis charged and ready to use. (If the indicatorlight emits a red color, the batteries need to becharged.)

TESTING

2. Turn the intensity level on the transmitter up tothe maximum level (100) and press the Nickbutton. The indicator light(LED) on the collarreceiver will light briefly as you push the button.Pressing the Constant button will light theindicator for as long as you hold the button down,up to twelve seconds.

Fitting the Collar

The collar strap should be adjusted so that thecontact points are held firmly against the dog’sskin. If the collar is too loose, irritation mayresult from the contact points rubbing against theskin.

If the dog has a heavy coat, move the receiverup and down to work the contact points downinto the coat.

ATTENTION!

Avoid having the dog wear the collar withthe contact points in the same place for morethan two hours at a time. Leaving the pointson the same spot for extended periods of timecan cause skin irritation. If the dog is to wearthe e-collar for long periods, occasionallyreposition the collar so that the contact pointsare moved to a different spot on the dog’sneck.

OPERATING

Intensity Selection

To select the intensity level, start on the zero(0) setting. Gradually increase the level until youget a response from the dog that would beequivalent to a quick pull or jerk with a leash.

Remember that you will need to adjust thesetting (upward or downward) as the dog’sattitude changes, especially during times ofincreased excitement or distraction.

Prolonged use of the Pager (12 seconds orlonger) will drain the batteries more quickly.

Maintenance

The receiver and collar strap should becleaned periodically with detergent and water toprevent malfunction.

Always clean and rinse the collar thoroughlywith tap water after use in salt water. Be sure thecharging receptacle is completely dry beforeinserting the battery charger into the transmitteror receiver.
