Do you have old or unused items lying around the house that you need to get rid of?
There is still time to register to host your own garage sale during Australia’s biggest community sustainability event, taking place on 20 – 21 October.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is encouraging City of Wanneroo residents to ‘choose to re-use’ and be part of the annual Garage Sale Trail.
“According to The Australia Institute, 88 per cent of Australians have at least one cluttered room in their home,” Mayor Roberts said.
“What better way of de-cluttering than hosting your own sale.
You will get to connect with people in your neighbourhood, all while making a bit of pocket money.”
Last year, it was revealed that the average garage sale sold 11 shopping trolleys worth of items!
In fact, the latest fi ndings from the Gumtree Second Hand Economy Report 2018 reveal the average Australian household has $4,200 in unwanted items and a staggering 50 per cent admit to throwing their unwanted items away.
“Garage Sale Trail presents the perfect opportunity to not only reuse, but to realise the responsibility we have for the waste we generate – as individuals, and as communities – in a fun and social way,” Mayor Roberts said.
This will be the third year the City of Wanneroo has been involved, joining more than 140 Councils across the country.
In 2016, the City of Wanneroo was awarded the “Best Newcomer Award” in recognition of an excellent inaugural
event. Last year, 117 individual sales and seven group sales were registered locally with almost 5500 people engaging in those sales.
