What is Nomad?

Nomad Ireland is a sports programme from YFC Ireland that uses a portable soccer cage and a team of passionate young interns who promote positive values and engage young people in faith conversations on their turf, throughout the Republic of Ireland.

The Nomad team use a steel cage which can be erected anywhere with a flat surface, a school playground, a city centre, the centre of a housing estate – or a church hall. The Cage is an attraction, allowing young people to play a 2-on-2 soccer game called Pana-knockout, a game based on skill, control and communication.

Strict Health and Safety procedures are adhered to at all times when using the soccer cage, which is manned by Nomad team members only and clear rules are outlined before each session begins.

All Nomad interns will receive the appropriate training and their FAI Kick Start Level 1 coaching badge.

Our team of FAI Qualified Coaches, who are gifted youth workers, are able to communicate effectively with children and young people on issues that are relevant and important in their lives – we present this during our team talks and also through conversations around the soccer cage.

We have programmes we can deliver in schools to tie in with the SPHE Curriculum, P.E and R.E. lessons lasting from 30mins – 1 hour 20mins. We also have workshops that work in both settings; both school and in the community , ‘Learning for Life and Work’, covering topics like; Racism Awarness, Anti-bullying and Anti-social behaviour and a

myLife Programme that covers topics like; Communicating in a new age, Sex as it is, World of Work, Managing your emotions and Relating to others. Our programmes and workshops are delivered during a half day or a full day booking, depending on the needs of the group we are working with.

Objectives

To provide a resource to schools, churches, community groups within the Republic of Ireland that will support engagement and relationship building with young people in those areas, while tackling the issues and concerns of young people today.

To provide opportunities for young people to hear stories of faith and stories of hope, through testimonies of other young people who have put their faith in Jesus.

To provide opportunities for young people to develop skills and grow in confidence and self worth.

To deliver unique P.E. and R.E lessons, within the local primary and post primary schools, that compliment and assist with the current curriculum.

A NOMAD programme will have a team leader (Full time YFC Staff Member), 2/3 interns, a NOMAD vehicle, a CAGE and trailer.

What does Nomad look like on the ground?

1. Do I love Jesus?2. Do I love working with young people?3. Can I strike up a conversation with anyone about anything?4. Am I hard working?5. Am I up for early mornings and late nights?6. Do I like to travel?7. Do I like to share my faith with others?8. Can I work well with others?9. Do I like football?10. Am I good at football?

If you answer no to Q10– it’s ok!

It’s not about the football. It’s not even about the cage. It’s about young people.

The team use their passions and skills in playing and coaching football to generate excitement amongst young people. Nomad can set up their Football Cage in any school hall or playground; field or courtyard; or any area of flat land within estates – both indoors and outdoors. The cage instantly creates an excitement amongst young people.

Furthermore, when the atmosphere allows, the cage

creates a great centre piece from which team members (or accompanying speakers) can share part of their story or give a short talk.

As youth workers the Nomad team are keen to work with young people, encouraging learning and enjoyment through participation.Nomad is made up of people who love God and have a passion to play football. Every Nomad team member uses their gifting

as football players and youth workers to build relationships with the young people.During a week, the team can be involved in the following; Community work, schools work or church work.

What is the cost in doing a Y-ONE Nomad internship?

YFC Ireland estimate that the cost of the Y-ONE Nomad internship will be €5,000 for the year.

€5,000

International interns, and those not able to commute to their work, are required to raise €5,000 for the year. Almost 75 percent of that total is reimbursed to you in food and pocket money. The fee does not include airfare (for international interns) at the outset of your internship year, returning home in August 2017, or any personal travel.

In addition, any ministry-related trips that an intern might be asked to make during the year also would involve additional costs. Such trips, however, are very rare and typically are a nominal expense.

Interns should note that your support is NOT due in its entirety at the outset of your “Y-ONE’’ year. We do request that interns are prepared to give €2,000 at the start of their internship.

Raising this amount might seem like a huge task, but it is important to remember that if God is calling you to serve with YFC Ireland this year, then He will certainly provide. It can be a great blessing to witness first-hand God’s faithfulness and power in His provision for your needs.

How much do I raise?

We do not want you to worry about your support goal, because time and again we have seen God provide. But we do need you to take this aspect of your “Y-ONE’’ year seriously. You would not purchase a jumper and then only pay for half of it.

Similarly, we are relying on your promise to cover the entire amount before your “Y-ONE’’ year ends next August. It is important to remember that your support can continue to come in throughout the year.

Because you are a missionary serving with YFC Ireland, we request that you raise that amount, rather than simply treat it as an expense to be paid out of pocket. The work of YFC Ireland would not happen if individuals and organisations did not decide to back it through prayer and finances. When you agree to be a “Y-ONE’’ intern, you commit yourself to raising this support.

To get started, we ask that each intern produce a list of 30 individuals or families, along with full mailing addresses and e-mail

address, whom you believe might be interested in supporting financially or in prayer, OR who already may be supporting you now.

We also will actively assist you in reaching out to individuals and churches for your support by instructing you how to write a newsletter and to effectively communicate prayer requests and financial needs. Since you are taking a bold step of faith, pray that God will provide for all your needs.

What is all the money for?

The funds you raise will contribute towards the following: • Training and Coaching certificate • Retreats and Team Days throughout the year • Team travel to ministry locations and other related expenses • Prayer letters (administration & postage, if done through YFC World Outreach) • Food money • Pocket money • Accommodation contribution

Please remember, these funds DO NOT include individual travel expenses to and from the office or your personal travelling.

We also will actively assist you in reaching out to individuals and churches for your support by instructing you how to write a newsletter and to effectively communicate prayer requests and financial needs. Since you are taking a bold step of faith, pray that God will provide for all your needs.

Practical Ideas for Raising Your Support?

How can people give?

1) Inform people about your plans. Talk to people personally, write letters, organise group meetings

2) An information eveningUse this to inform friends or family of your plans and make an appeal for prayer and financial support. When you are organising this, think about: numbers attending, venue, personal invitations, refreshments (tea & biscuits). Involve your minister or youth leader, perhaps asking them to lead the night.

3) Church offering

4) Special Events Sponsored event Bands, Party etc. Bread and Cheese lunch Breakfast (hosted by church)

5) FacebookIn this day and age the best way to get information out there is using social networking site. For example, if you have to raise €2,500 you could put up on your status that you need 100 friends

and family to give you €25 each towards your year out – that covers nearly half the fee right there! Once you break it down – it can be that easy.

We have set up a way to give online at www.yfc.ie.

1) Regular amount Please ask people to complete the Bankers Order section of the support form (and Gift Aid section). By filling out the Bankers order section, the amount they wish to give you is automatically transferred (usually in monthly donations) from their bank account to Youth for Christ Ireland.

2) One-off gifts Please make sure that cheques are made payable to “Youth for Christ IRL’’ (written out, not the abbreviated version). When you are sending these into the office, please attach a note to indicate that they are to go to your support.

3) On line givingThis makes it easier for people to give. There is a section on our website where you can donate. If people mark the donation by adding your name to it, then the money goes straight to your support. www.yfc.ie - click donate

Simon Marriott in the YFC Ireland office deals with finance so if you have any queries you can contact him directly at [email protected]

It is very important to keep a list of people who have given money to you so you can remember to thank them and include them on your prayer list.

Don’t ever take your supporters for granted

In all cases please encourage people to gift aid their donations. By using the form enclosed it means that tax can be claimed on the gift of around 28% of its value. Your gift must be from a current UK/IRL

taxpayer. Gift Aid can only be claimed from individual givers and cannot be claimed from relatives.
