Abstract

In this paper, I will reveal the SMEs activities in Thailand by using data which was

analyzed with Teikoku Data Bank Co., Ltd and I also will reveal some challenges faced

with some changes of specific institutional environment to do business in Thailand.

The data shows that first of all, the movement of Japanese Firms entry into Thailand

happened in 2000 FTY, second the firms was mainly constituted of SMEs, and third,

Japanese firms got sales by doing business with Japanese firms across different

industries.

Recently Thai government has changed some policies. First is the attracting policy

for foreign companies. Second is minimum wage policy. These affected foreign

companies to do business in Thailand. First, Japanese SMEs, which want to do business

in Thailand in the future, have to do business that will contribute to Thai economy and

society. Second, Japanese SMEs also have to have the idea of Thai plus one . Therefore

SMEs need to build new business model in Thailand.
