Basic Idea• When an adolescent has a dream of its
future, the relation with the school changes.
• Normally an adolescent goes to school because he has to.
• With his own dream an adolescent will use the school to realize his dream.
• When they start to use their schools to realize their dreams, the whole system changes.
Process• Many things stop adolescents to dream
of their future.• They need to learn to dream.• The need to discover their talents.• They need to discover the possibilities.• They need to discover their
responsibility for their own lives.• They need to discover how they can
contribute to the world

What does this mean for schoolsystems
• The focus of the school towards development of knowledge and skills will change in helping the child to fullfill its dream.
• The adolescents are participants in the proces in stead of mere users of system.

• Lessons in learning to dream.• Upheaval the physical environment.• Connect the school with its
environment.• Be visible.

Lessons in dreaming• Part of the normal lessons• 2 hours per week in one session for
one year.• At the end they have:– A letter describing their dream. – A research of what is possible.– Letters to place where they can fulfill
their dreams.– A plan of action to fulfill the dream.

The book Follows the Proces
• A portrait• A text about the life of the
adolescent• A text about the dream• Na exerpt of the letter they wrote to
the people where they had tehier portrait
To show these children and their
talents to the world.

Change the physical environment
• Make the place more a place that shows respect for the adolescents.– For example at Ruth Cabral.–Modify the toilets–Use empty spaces to make gardens and
keep them open for the adolescents – Involve architects and others to change
the school in an open space.

Connect the school with its environment
• Create a bridge between Ruth Cabral and São Paulo organizing trips to cultural activities
• Start a bureau for volunteers that will do extra things for the school
• Museum Pinacoteca will give lessons in art and at the same time the adolescents will select art that will be hanged at the walls of the school as posters.

Be visible
• Make a professional site.• Use the internet to do projects with
other schools all over the world.• Host events for education and
culture in the school.
