This April will make for the seventh timeleaders throughout the WesternHemisphere will convene in Panama todiscuss the roles of democracy, growth andsecurity. In the past tension between theUnited States and Latin America has arisendue to war on drugs and the US stance onCuba. This April should be no different interms of putting the US government in thehot seat especially now that the currentPresident of Cuba, Raúl Castro ,will bemaking an appearance.

This conference with its 189 signatoriesmeets every five years to discuss the use ofatomic weapons across the globe. Attendeesare expecting a somewhat uncomfortableatmosphere compared to the 2009conference. Tensions surrounding nuclearwarfare have only escalated during the last5 years. This year, discussions over NorthKorea, Israel, Iran, South Asia and Russiawill be at the forefront of the conference.

At a castle in the Bavarian Alps, Germanywill invite other Western leaders toconvene on the promotion macroeconomiccoordination, the enhancement of energysecurity, the fight against diseases such asEbola and the empowerment of womenacross the world. This summit acts as asymbol of western leaders and thinkersgrouping together, showing their solidarityfor the western way of life.

In mid September, New York will bebrimming with the leaders of the world asthey once again discuss the global fight toend poverty. The leaders will evaluate whatis left to be done and examine how theyhave done in terms of meeting theMillennium Development Goals whichwere implemented in 2000.

Following the opening of the UN GeneralAssembly, the world leaders will meet inAntalya, Turkey. The Turkish governmenthas expressed their intention to make thefollowing global issues the priorities fordiscussion topics: climate change, energy,trade, development and investment.
