I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free. I’m following the path GOD has laid, you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day; to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill
it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Oh yes, these things I, too,, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full; I savored much;
Good friends, good times; a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. GOD wanted me now; He set me free!

Cherished Memories Obituary John Dee Davis was born April 12, 1923 to the late Sam and Cora Patterson Davis in Tuskegee (Macon County), Alabama. John Dee accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Fort Hull AME Zion Church where he faithfully attended and served as a Preacher Stewart until his health failed. He was educated in the Macon County Public School System. Following his studies, John Dee was employed at the Ice Age Plant in Tuskegee (1960). Throughout the years, John Dee was employed with several contracting companies—Tuskegee Institute (Tuskegee University) and Faulk Contracting. Later, John Dee established his own masonry contracting business and helped construct interstate and railway systems thus leaving an enduring legacy for future generations. In 1943, John Dee married the love of his life, the former Ms. Lucy Chisholm. To this loving union, twelve beautiful children were born—each instilled with Christian values and the importance of family and hard work. John Dee and Lucy were united in holy matrimony for 72 blissful years, sharing life’s joys and sorrows until her demise on September 22, 2015. In addition to his adoring parents and devoted wife, John Dee was preceded in death by numerous beloved family members: five caring children: John Davis, Jr., Marshall Harris, Christine Davis, Robert Davis and Robbie Davis Hamer; three dedicated grandchildren, Tracy Davis Forman, Samuel Wayne Coleman and Karim Davis; nine cherished siblings, Euriel Davis, Mary Wilson, Maurine Bell, Sam Davis, John Ed Harris, Luesta Pugh, Annie Ruth Collins, Sam Hendon Davis and Cora Davis Isler; also a loyal son-in-law, George ( Jetty) Blizzard.
