Note from Pastor David Luckert ...
INTEGRITY. BIG WORD!
What is integrity?
Words like honesty and trustworthy come to mind.
People who are honest, people whom we can trust, are
said to be people of integrity.
We have all heard the definition: “integrity is who we
are when no one is looking.” When faced with a
temptation - if I know no one will ever find out what I
do - how will I respond / react?
Beginning July 10, I am going to begin a sermon series
on the life of Joseph, from the Old Testament. We
know many of the more famous stories of his life:
Received a coat of many colors;
Had dreams;
Sold into slavery by his brothers;
Taken to Egypt;
Found himself in prison;
Interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams;
Ended up as Prime Minister of Egypt.
Great stories. Lots for us to learn from Joseph’s life.
But the greatest lesson I learn from Joseph is how to
live with integrity.
In adversity. Through temptation. In prison. In the
palace. Joseph lived a life of integrity. So can I. So can
you. (And - I think our culture is in need of integrity!)
On a side note … I am really excited about our
combined worship on July 3rd. It has become our
tradition to gather as one worshiping community on
the first Sunday of July, and then stay for a potluck
dinner.
This year will be even more special as our youth take
this opportunity to share with us their experiences from
their mission trip to OKC. Hope to see you here!
Glad to be in worship and in witness with you …
David

MUSIC NOTES This is “Thank a Chancel Choir Member Month”…well,
actually, it’s vacation time for the Chancel Choir. Seriously,
though, when you see a choir member, please thank them for
their unselfish ministry. Our Traditional services would not
be the same without them.
And, it’s “Thank the Praise Team”, as well. Our Common
Ground service would also be less than praise-worthy without
their leadership.
Stay cool………..
Grace to you all……..Jack
MAKING SENSE OF MINISTRY
What does it truly mean to serve your Lord through ministry? Many of
you have faithfully served in one or more ministries of the church for a
number of years. You know your gifts and faithfully use them to serve the
Lord. What a blessing you are and a witness of what it means to serve.
Some of you may be thinking about how you can use your strengths to serve. There are many
ministries of FUMC. Probably the best way to learn about these is to ask someone who is involved
in serving already. They are the best witnesses of how these ministries work and how they are a
blessing to those served as well as those serving.
In the book, MAKING SENSE OF MINISTRY, Warren W. Wiersbe and David W. Wiersbe list the
characteristics of ministry as:
The foundation of ministry is character. (Serving with heart, integrity and commitment)
The nature of ministry is service. (Willingness to give of time and abilities)
The motive for ministry is love. (Sharing the love of Jesus with others)
The measure of ministry is sacrifice. (Giving up something to serve God)
The authority of ministry is submission. (Surrendering to God’s will)
The purpose of ministry is to glorify God. (Praising God through service)
The tools of ministry are the Word of God and prayer. (Studying His Word and asking for guidance)
The privilege of ministry is growth. (Embracing the right to thrive through service)
And most importantly:
The power of ministry is the Holy Spirit, and the model for ministry is JESUS CHRIST.
To learn more about the ministries of FUMC, come by the church office and pick up a copy of
Ministry & Mission Opportunities. Contact Brenda in the church office for more info and with
any questions you might have concerning FUMC ministries. 903-657-6588. At this time, the Caring
Ministry is seeking those who can serve by visiting members currently residing in nursing and
assisted living facilities.
