Workplace Classes Benefit Employeesand Hospitality Industry
The Literacy Council of Frederick County ispartnering with Plamondon Hospitality Partnersto bring English language classes to hotel associatesto benefit their lives both at work and at home.Associates who work at four local hotels attendedweekly classes earlier this year. They were recentlyrecognized by Plamondon Hospitality Partners fortheir hard work and dedication in the classes.

COABE Conference Goes Virtual
The Coalition on Adult Basic Educationis the voice of adult basic educationnationwide. With more than 15,000members, its mission is to advancenational and international adult educationand literacy opportunities through initiativesin the workforce, digital technology andadult literacy. Each year, COABE sponsorsa national conference, and this year—inpartnership with the Maryland Associationfor Adult, Community, and ContinuingEducation (MAACCE)—the conferencewas presented entirely online.

Stuff the Bus Successful!
Thank you for supporting the LiteracyCouncil of Frederick County'sparticipation in the United Way's annualStuff the Bus campaign, aiding in thecollection of school supplies to meet theneeds of Frederick County students. Forthe first time in its 12-year history, Stuff theBus went mostly digital yielding a total ofnearly 90,000 individual school supplies.

In Memoriam
On August 9, 2020, Ron Adams passedaway at the age of 76. After retiring in2006, Ron volunteered in many ways in theFrederick community. He began workingwith the Literacy Council in 2008 and wasa dedicated ESL tutor who worked withseveral students over the years and gaveover 1,400 hours of his time.

After our March 21st Scrabble™Mania forLiteracy event was cancelled, the LiteracyCouncil transitioned our Silent Auction toBiddingOwl, an online auction managementplatform. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out toall our sponsors and players who willinglydonated their sponsorships and tickets to theLiteracy Council, silent auction donors andbidders, and the tireless efforts of our manyvolunteers, all of whom contributed in makingthis event a success. Over $4,100 was raisedfrom the Silent Auction, bringing our total eventproceeds to over $17,000! THANK YOU! Viewour Tribute Book.
