Houses of interest in Albrighton
At the cross roads in the High Street lies
The Manor House. Built in the mid 18th
century it was once a well established
and notable school for young ladies.
Pupils were boarded at The Manor
House whilst teaching staff resided
at the adjacent Dower House, now
known as Manor Cottage. Today, both
properties are residential dwellings.
At the east end of the High Street
interesting properties built in the 19th
century line the pretty village green.
The date 1852 is inscribed on a terrace
named ‘Victoria Place’.
The village green boasts a ‘Handkerchief
Tree’ (Davidia Involucrata) which is
particularly striking when it flowers
during May/June. The Lodge, situated
at the entrance to the privately owned
Albrighton Hall and located in High
Street opposite Shaw Lane, dates from
the 19th century and is in a fine classical
style. Made of local sandstone from a
nearby quarry, it was constructed to
house the Coachman and the Gardener
who were employed at the Hall.
