Such HARD work! I could use a little time away,thought Farmer Kelly as she packed her bags...

...wrote a to do list, and called sitter Heidi whoagreed to fill in for her, and care for the farm

animals and the house while she went away on ashort day trip.

A sitter? Donkey laughed. Hee-haw! We dontneed a sitter! We can care for ourselves and the

house just fine without the likes of a sitter. And wewill too! said Donkey stubbornly.

Whats all the fuss about? asked Heidi. Idont know. said Farmer Kelly. But I

wouldnt worry about it too much.

I wont be long. I expect to be back late thisafternoon. I wrote a list of things that I would like foryou to do. Follow my instructions and everything wil

be just fine. said Farmer Kelly.

The animals shouldnt give you any trouble atall, except Donkey...

Donkey can be TROUBLE. He thinks hesBOSS and that he runs the place. He might

need a firm reminder. she said as she drove

Heidi looked to Donkey.

Donkey grinned and brayed.Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

Im sure everything will be just fine. said Heidi

as she turned her attention to the list.

She then read the list aloud,and when she was done, she

uickl ot to work.

Heidi mucked the pens, stalls, and nests just asshe was asked. She then turned out the lights,

locked all the doors and gates, and put the farm tobed. And with everything done, she headed home

just as she was asked.

The farm animals waited for the farm to fall silent

and the coast to clear. When it did, they quicklyran for the house ready to tackle the chores that

Donkey had assigned them. And their work beganjust as soon as they walked in the door.

Dog guarded the house and acted as a lookout.

The sheep fed and watered the farm animals.

The chickens cleaned the dishes.

The pigs cleaned the floor.

The cows dusted the house.

Goat did the laundry.

Farmer Kelly would NOT be happyif she saw this! said momma

chicken.

And she will be home soon! saidpapa chicken.

for them.

We CAN do this!said Donkey. Yes we

CAN! said Dog.

But we need new chores, ones that were good at. sahe pigs. And we need to work together. said the she

So, what are wewaiting for? saidGoat. Lets get

going! said the farmanimals.

And they quickly ranfrom the house tothe barn, leavingDonkey behind.

went away on vacation.

It was late afternoon when Farmer Kelly pulled in thedriveway, just as she had promised. And it was

without explanation that the farm animals wherethrowing their bags in the back of the truck before

she had even exited.

Whats all the fuss about? said Farmer Kelly.

Vacation. Huh? Replacements?What? Farmer Kelly laughed.Ha!ouve got to be kidding me. I dont

need any replacements.

I can care for myself, and the house just finewithout the likes of replacements and I will. said

Farmer Kelly stubbornly.

We wont be long. We expect to be back in a week.I wrote a list of things that I would like for you to do.
