Statement-Strengths: I have a wealth of experiences that makes me most qualified to be Alderman of the 4th Ward. I have lived in Roseland, New Orleans and Washington, DC. In each location I have worked closely with the community and learned how to work to solve problems plaguing various communities. In my present field as an Attorney it is my daily task to help those in stressful situations solve their issues. Therefore I have a vast amount of experience of listening to a problem and working to reach a resolution. This is what I will do with the constituents of the 4th Ward: listen and work to move the Ward forward.

Statement-Opinion: The most pressing issue in the 4th Ward is the continuing development of the Ward, in particular the 43rd and 47th Street corridor. The challenge will be to usher in the development without alienating the present small business and keeping the unique character of the area. My idea for addressing this is simple: reaching out and connecting with constituents before major decisions are made. I also believe this the most pressing issue in the City of Chicago is similar:trust. Many of the citizens of Chicago feel ignored and it will taking connecting to these folk and looking for solutions.

Dear Mayor Emanuel,

I am writing to recommend Shay Allen as the next alderman of the 4th Ward. I have known Shay

for close to 10 years. We first met when we both worked as Assistant State’s Attorney in the

Cook County States Attorney’s Office. When I worked with Shay I observed he was

hardworking, smart, efficient and a great team player. During his time at the States Attorney’s

Office he also served as the President of the Chicago Chapter of National Black Prosecutor’s

Association where he spearheaded and participated in countless community outreach programs.

Even though we both eventually left the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, we have kept in

contact and I have watched Shay grow in his solo law practice. I have witnessed how Shay has

been able to help his clients and members of the public, and effectively handle their legal cases.

Shay’s chosen profession, as someone who constantly solves the problems of those in dire

situations, gives him a great skill set to lead the ward.

I am an active member of the 4th Ward community and I understand the different dynamics of

the community. Based on my knowledge of the community, I feel that Shay has the appropriate

temperament, life experience, and intelligence to lead the 4th Ward to a prosperous future. Please
