The last few weeks have indeed proved to be busy here at Doosan Vina. The shipment of the fourth De-salination evaporator by the Water Shop marked the

completion of the Yanbu III water project for Saudi Arabia. Each of the four desalination units is the size of a football pitch, weighs 4,500 tons and once installed, the four units will convert seawater into 380 million liters of fresh, life sustaining water per day to meet the needs of millions of thirsty people. October 24th was a historic day for Doosan globally as nearly 10,000 employees around the world (about 25% of the total workforce) spent the day improving life for people in neighboring communities. Here in Vietnam 100+ employ-ees worked at Binh Thuan Primary to complete a $22,000 renovation at the school. Doosan’s Q-Health program was also busy and saw sev-eral rotations of doctors from Korea’s Chung Ang University Medical Center come to Vietnam. The CAU doctors worked with their Vietnamese counterparts at the KOICA funded, Quang Nam Central General Hospital to demonstrate the latest surgical procedures in neurology, cardiovascular and other specialties. Another Corporate Social Responsibility initiative was the donation of $25,000 of high tech medical equipment and medicine to Binh Son Hospital. The donation will im-prove treatment options at the hospital which serves many Doosan Vina employees and their families. For those of you who follow Doosan Vina digitally, thanks for your support. Power, Water & Chemical Processing Equipment aids Development in India and Saudi Arabia

Since our last report the pace of shipments of our much needed and world famous high tech “Made

in Vietnam” Power and Water infrastruc-ture products has gained momentum. Over the last 90 days nearly 11,500 tons

of vital equipment necessary for economic growth and life itself, went to India and Saudi Arabia where it will soon play important roles in the development of these countries. A major portion of this impressive total can be attrib-uted to the men and women of the Water Shop who completed and sent two massive desalination evapo-rators that each weighed in at 4,500 tons. These life sustaining giants that each produce 95 million liters of potable water/day by desalinating sea water, went to the Yanbu Phase III project in Saudi Arabia. Here they will join two previously shipped units to quench the thirst of millions in this arid region of the world. These desalination evaporators are 15m high, 34.4m wide and 143m long and are of a “Plug-n-Play mul-tistage flash design which allows them to be opera-tional in the shortest time possible. This is the eighth evaporator of Water shop has completed since com-mencing operations in 2009.

Now it’s true enough that cupid really doesn’t often need assistance for doing what comes natural, but a little help sometimes goes a long way and when you are in an isolated location far from home it is more than reasonable. With that in mind OC decided to build “Love Bridge” to bring the men and women of the company together who had hopes of connect-ing with other lonely hearts here at our Quang Ngai complex. The first “Love Bridge” event attracted 28 single men and women from the twelve divisions and shops. One activity at the first meeting was a vari-ation of “Speed Dating” where people spend a few minutes interviewing/chatting with a person of the opposite gender to see if they have a common bond before time requires you to move on to another per-son and repeat the process. During the evening OC organized several such in-teresting and fun ways for the people to get to know each other and from observing the many smiles and

hearing the hearty laughter that took place there is no doubt that the event was a roaring hit with the singles who participated. Not many companies would see this as a worth-while program, but when you consider that happy employees are better employees and good employ-ees are the foundation of customer satisfaction and so it is only logical to do all that you can to see that employees are content. OC reports that based on the fact that three cou-ples emerged at the first Love Bridge meeting it appears that they’ve certainly found a good way to help facilitate relationships and complete the circle.

Beyond Summer Camp 2014When you think of Summer Camp, visions of

tents, campfires and heading out into the woods to commune with nature comes to

mind. It is a chance to test yourself in a new environ-ment, try new things and make new friends. Doosan Vina’s “Beyond Summer Camp” or BSC is all that and more, albeit without the woods and campfires. BSC began in 2012 with a group of 30 and in total 109 are now BSC alumni. The BSC alumni have proven to be such valuable am-bassadors, sharing the wonders of Korea with their friends and family here in Vietnam that a third group of “campers” were offered a chance to be totally im-mersed in the BSC experience this year. BSC 2014 saw 39 exceptional students between the ages of 17 and 22 selected. To qualify the “camp-ers” had to have shown themselves to be excellent students, in good health and demonstrated advanced social skills. After prequalification the candidates were put through a rigorous testing and interview process in English and Korean. The lucky 39 campers who made it through the process were then flown to Korea

where they were treated to an intense, nonstop three week program based at Chung Ang University in Seoul South Korea. BSC 2014 was held between July 21st and August 10th. Upon arrival in Korea the students were put through a Korean basic training course to acclimate them to their host country and then BSC began in earnest. Among the programs were special lectures about fashion, makeup, acting, photography, filming, pot-tery and Taekwondo. They were also treated to an insider’s view of Korean culture through special visits to famous cultural and historical sites and a series of other activities that exposed them to a variety and side of Korean culture that few get to experience. One of the aims of the program is to give the BSC members a chance to see and experience first-hand how Korea has developed into one of the world’s most advanced nations. This is the 3rd year in a row that Doosan has sponsored the program and the as the relationship between Vietnam and Korea has steadily increased the benefits to both countries are many and growing.
