doppler effect and blueshift and redshift
TRANSCRIPT
Doppler Effect
DOPPLER EFFECTAn apparent shift in frequency of a wave caused by relative motion between the source of the wave and the observer.
FREQUENCYthe rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light), usually measured per second.
Wavelength the distance between successive crests of a wave, especially points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave.
PitchThe highness or lowness of sound.
SOUND WAVES
A moving sound source and a stationary observer.

REDSHIFT and BLUESHIFTBy: Lily Rosemary L. Masilang
BSE-III
What is REDSHIFT?REDSHIFT- term used when light is
shifted toward lower frequencies or toward the red end of the spectrum.
Higher wavelength, lower frequency
Cosmological redshifta redshift caused by the expansion of space.3 Types of Redshift– From the universe expansion– From the movement of galaxies relative to each
other– From “gravitational redshift” which happens
when light is shifted due to the massive amount of matter inside of a galaxy.
What is BLUESHIFT?BLUESHIFT - term used when visible light
is shifted toward higher frequencies or toward the blue end of the spectrum.
Lower wavelength, higher frequency
Blueshift is not something you see with your eyes.
It is determined by the study of the wavelengths of light
Spectrometer or spectrograph- an instrument used to dissect light.
Remember:Redshift and blueshift are used to refer to any
range of wavelengths.Red and blue refer to the relative direction of
the shift not the color.
Remember:
Redshift- away from us or shifted towards the red end of the spectrum
higher wavelength- lower frequency
Blueshift- towards us or shifted towards the blue end of the spectrum.
lower wavelength-higher frequency
